Bears running back Harvey Unga has left the team to attend to a personal matter.

It’s the second time in training camp that Unga has left the team, and there’s no word on what’s going on or when (or if) he’ll be back.

The Bears took Unga with a seventh-round pick in last year’s supplemental draft, which he entered after leaving BYU over a violation of the school’s honor code. He ended up missing the entire season after suffering a hamstring injury in August.

Whether he returns from his personal issue quickly or not, it’s hard to see how Unga could make the team. Unga is far behind Matt Forte, Marion Barber and Chester Taylor on the Bears’ running back depth chart, and if the Bears decide to keep one of their young running backs, it would be Kahlil Bell, who looked much better than Unga in the Bears’ preseason opener.

And so, at a time when this year’s supplemental draft is a major topic of conversation in the football world, a player from last year’s supplemental draft appears close to proving himself to be a wasted pick.
