Jahvid Best heads to the locker room

With second round pick Mikel Leshoure already out for the year, the Lions are counting on Jahvid Best to stay healthy.

The second year pro, who battled turf toe last year, suffered some sort of injury Friday night.

The Lions would only say that Best was taken to the locker room for observation.  It appeared trainers may have been giving Best concussion tests on the sideline, but that has not been disclosed.  Best had a lot of concussion issues in college.

Best returned to the sideline with his helmet off after halftime.

Did Kevin Smith die or something?

    Lions RB injury bug:

    Kevin Jones
    Kevin Smith
    Jahvid Best
    Mikel Leshoure

    Sucks…

They were looking into his eyes on the sideline, then he went in for more evaluation…. concussion.

What, no “we’re not sure why they were so confident that would change in the pros” comment?

Boy this team can’t catch a break. They actually start to show upside and you qb can’t stay healthy, and now your 1 and 2 rb are hurt, CJ is coming off injury and Suh can’t perform a tackle without slamming someone to the ground…

to bad, be nice to see an outside team move in the playoff picture rather then the same ones every year.

  7. darthhitman says: Aug 19, 2011 9:56 PM

Wouldn’t be the Detroit Lions if we weren’t hit with injuries before we even get going. Injuries = part of the game, plug the hole with someone else and let’s roll

Just wow! I hope we see him play this season, he is fun to watch.

Jahvid Best hurt. In other news, water is wet.

Draft an offensive line this century and maybe everyone behind it won’t seem like they’re made of porcelain.

  11. rajbais says: Aug 19, 2011 10:04 PM

Well, it’s better to go in there for injury instead of bad performance.

  12. axespray says: Aug 19, 2011 10:15 PM

The lions can still be a tough team, we just won a superbowl with two runningbacks that average 2.2 ypc.

If that Dline dominates and stafford and his wrs are healthy, they’re a tough team.

  13. cobibones13 says: Aug 19, 2011 10:15 PM

Best was very injury prone heading into the NFL. I didn’t think anyone would take him before the 3rd. Now he’s injury prone in the NFL and some people are surprised.

  17. martinmayhew4president says: Aug 19, 2011 11:35 PM

@boneyardbuc – so you are saying that one of the five wins will be against the Bucs?

  18. polegojim says: Aug 19, 2011 11:45 PM

Call them 2nd, 3rd, or 4th teamers… the Lions are proving to have deeper talent than most gave them credit for.. or have, especially on both lines. Not stellar, but deeper.

Too bad about Best, but he’ll be back. A bulldozer like Hillis would be nice, but we’re going to be fine.

Sloppier than last week, but lots of Lion success to be happy about.

  19. trojanwarrior007 says: Aug 19, 2011 11:47 PM

There are plenty of RBs on the street that can fill in so I wouldn’t worry about that position. Most important is to keep Stafford healthy.

  20. bearfan51 says: Aug 19, 2011 11:58 PM

I seem to remember telling Lions fans Karma is a b!tch…

The NFL is rough enough without “n-donkey-kong- sue” trying to hurt QBs in preseason games…

Real talk though… The Kitties do have a real chance to finish better than last in the Div for the first time in a long time with the Queens being so dysfunctional….

  21. staffordsyear says: Aug 20, 2011 12:35 AM

Technicaly the lions finished third in the division last year by beating the packers and queens.Minnesota beat the lions once and lost all the other games against the nfc north. So the lions win the tiebreaker if you will.

  22. pencepost says: Aug 20, 2011 12:39 AM

My sentiment toward Lions fans over the past couple weeks has gone from contempt at their baseless trash talking on stories about my Bears, to an understanding of why they are only able to trash talk during the first few weeks of the preseason, to genuine sympathy toward their lack of hope.

I wouldn’t bet your life on it Nancy. I’m not gonna go all Lions fan here, b*tching & moaning about wrong calls. We both know what happened that game. We’re not made of glass down here in Tampa, sweetie. Josh Freeman started the season with a broken thumb last year and did what he did. Your team/city is a joke.

  24. granadafan says: Aug 20, 2011 12:55 AM

Best had ONE concussion in college.

  25. footballdog says: Aug 20, 2011 12:56 AM

    @Boneyardbuc

5-11? The Defense alone can win more than 5 games. And if Stafford can stay healthy, who knows. I say 9-7.

Not to mention Jerry Angelo’s keen eye for talent, honesty and awesome trades this offseason. I don’t care if Best comes back or not, the Bears and Vikings will be battling it out for 3rd. ALSO, IF Suh is so dirty and IF it was karma it’s have come “back” onto Suh, not Jahvid who has ZERO career QB hits, let alone sacks…moron

Posted this a few posts back( one about Tony Dungy):
    ————————————_

On a side note, or just a simple observation in the form of a multiple choice question:

When you have a PFT post about anything Detroit Lions related you will usually get which one of the following comments from a Bears Fan?
    A. “Stafford is a china doll and will be hurt by week ____”
    B. “Lions fans can’t let (insert this play or game) go from last year”
    C. “Other teams will start going after Suh, or Stafford in revenge”
    D. “Lions fans talk tough but………”
    E. All of the above

  31. jimmylions says: Aug 20, 2011 4:50 AM

Wow – the Bears fans are really coming out to dog on the Lions. You guys must terrified that Cutler isn’t going to finish the season, and so need to get your talking in now (cause ya know ya won’t be say say anything in November). I understand that the decision to cut Kreutz is good reason for you guys to be very depressed about your future, but there’s no need to take that out on anyone but your coach and GM.

Detroit Freep is saying Best had an apparent concussion, but no one from the Lions is admitting that yet.

  32. gi141 says: Aug 20, 2011 4:55 AM

Hopefully, Best can play all 16 games this season, and not like last season where he was well below 100% for much of it. But if he can’t stay healthy, Jerome Harrison is a very capable RB. Mike Bell, not so much.

    superbowl?

Suh is a beast and worth getting excited about. May even help that secondary overachieve. If he has an off game it may be a long day.

Nothing on the other side of the ball is remotely scary Stafford == Pennington

  34. beedubyatoo says: Aug 20, 2011 9:37 AM

Good news for Lions’ fans. Their third team is bette than Cleveland’s third team.

Bad news. They can’t stay healthy and their first team got their asses kicked.

  35. beedubyatoo says: Aug 20, 2011 9:40 AM

    Staffordsyear says:

And on IR by the third game.

  36. polegojim says: Aug 20, 2011 10:24 AM

Bad News Bears fans are desperate and trashtalking in fear of the regular season.

Evidently Ditka Peyton Samarai Refrig Urlacher and Forte are the last manly things to come out of Chicago, with fear of uncertainty, worry, and concern becoming the norm.

    Cornered, aggressive, scared and threatened.

I always thought the Bears and Bear fans did their talking on the field. Guess lots has changed.
    Kind of sad really.

  37. honolulubluekoolaid says: Aug 20, 2011 10:33 AM

When you fumble the ball in their end on the 25, they should score. I would not say the 1st team got their asses kicked. What game were you watching?
