Actually he isn’t. Great regular season QB, one of the best but also one of the worst playoff QBs you’ll see.

The defense that was dead last in the league against the rush “carried” the team? Of course Indy was #2 against the pass, but then who would pass when you could run right through them? Indy had a couple of decent defenses in the early to mid 2000′s, but 2006 wasn’t one of them, and by and large for Manning’s career, the defense has been has been much inferior to the O. Somebody above mentions this is the way Manning wants it, and it may be true in a Marino type fashion – put most of the team’s assets in the O and artificially supplement it, and everyone will go on about how there was little support from other sectors of the team. You get what you pay for.

The Patriots were in the same boat except for the fact they’ve lucked into Ryan Malett who, after a couple years, could be the heir apparent (but not nearly as good as Brady mind you).

This is a problem of the Colts own doing. I would expect this from the Bengals. Not the Colts.

With Manning as the Colts QB they have achieved things and he has personally achieved things that historically very few if any teams have accomplished:
>4 time league MVP (NFL record)
>7 straight seasons with 12+ wins (NFL record)
>9 straight seasons with 10+ wins
>9 straight seasons making the playoffs (NFL record)tied for 2nd on that list is Baltimore and Philly..with 3)
>2 Super Bowl appearances (1-1)
>2nd on the all time list for consecutive games played
Whether you like Manning or not (and i really don’t have an opinion one way or another) you can’t judge him on what he is today versus what he has been in the past(see Brett Favre)…Manning has accomplished things both personally and as a team that have not been done EVER in the league..to say he is overrated in 2011 is narrow minded and absurd.

uhmmm…are you talking about the mighty Colts D that got behind the Patriots 21-3 in the first half of the AFC Championship game…gave up 34 points in all…and allowed the overrated Manning to mount the biggest comeback in AFC Championship game history by going 27-47 for 350 yards?? Im not even a Colts fan but to listen to illiterate miffs babble on that Manning is overrated is laughable. What “announcers” are you listening to anyway…it must be your local homers lamenting the fact that the year Peyton won his Super Bowl the Eagles finished 8-8 and dead last in the division?
