I've delayed commenting on the actions at Candlestick over the weekend for several reasons, but mainly to collect my thoughts on the subject.

What are we coming to? After watching videos of fights in the stands and the parking lots, what are we coming to? Why do we have posters on here telling us "That's what happens when you wear your gear into enemy territory." What? At what point is it acceptable to attack someone over clothing? And why have we become such a nation of videographers? There's a fight going on in the parking lot and instead of behaving as responsible citizens and adults should and taking steps to quell the hostility, we all have to grab our cell phones and get the footage. What is going on? Do you think that Spielberg is going to call you up and offer you a job because he loved the way you framed the shot? Take some action. Step in as a group and grab the combatants and stop this nonsense. It continues to happen because we, as a society, permit it to happen. When will society decide that it's had enough? Would we rather curb the behavior or live with it? Put me down for the former.

This issue is one of the reasons I sell or give away my preseason tickets. 99% of these idiots do not attend regular season games, they get free/$5 tickets liquor up, drug up & fight each-other these are degenerate ignorant gangster's that have no business in a public setting and most likely end-up in our State Correctional facilities or yours.
I have been a 49er season ticket holder for years and like any other pro sporting event in the country you do have your occasional drunken scuffles but for the most part Candlestick is a safe environment with plenty of Police & security presence.

What has happened in California is the adaptation of sports teams to reflect your loyalty as to which City and “side” you represent in gang culture, on a large scale. With the “Northern/Southern” California gang civil war, allegiance is displayed by teams that are geographically located to the participants. Northern California over the last 20 years has had a huge influx of Southern California gangs establishing presence. They Nortenos wear red and usually wear 49er gear, where as Southerners will wear Raiders gear and to a lesser extent Charger gear as well, since both Los Angeles and San Diego are the biggest cities in So Cal. Don’t get me wrong, to certain extent there are by no means an obligation to have to choose to wear the teams colors, but it is a generalization and an easy way as an identifier who you rep one side or another. As such, there are Nortenos of course in Oakland and surrounding areas that are Raider fans as well. What I have seen over the last 10 or so years is a “football bangin’” mentality, that even so those with no participation in a gang view any insults and bickering from an opposing fan as a sign of disrespect, and to not “man up” is showing weakness. There are a few variables one can throw in the mix, i.e. alcohol, just wanting to pick a fight, etc. but I share the same sentiment with many of you that it has gotten out of hand. I have been up North and had good times in San Francisco to watch a Giants game, but a few fans that are tanked up want to “politick” over my jersey. Sad indeed. Same thing with L.A., where a decent amount of their Dodger fan base they have a Patriarch Alpha male complex where they have to feel better about themselves by drinking it up and talking smack. And I can certainly say that it is reciprocated and almost every stadium I have been to there are always fights between fans. Down in San Diego the Charger/Raider games are marred with violence, all the time, with a heavy L.A. gang influx coming down and local Charger fans and “bangers” have an unsettling antangonistic feeling towards the “Invasion”.
I used to watch those soccer match riots were people died and wondered, what the hell for? So stupid. Of course, Alcohol and ethnic pride are the motives for such violence. I had a feeling it would slowly creep into our pasttimes sooner than later due to humanities lack of compassion and ignorance, along with the proliferation of the California “gangster” lifestyle.

And people, enough with the “Illegal” or “Mexican” assumptions that truly display your ignorance along with an embedded fear, because last time I checked, a coward like the shooter can be anyone, of any ethnicity. And you people that do not have anything positive to say about California must have a jealousy complex. Its bad everywhere. Go ahead and name your “beautiful” state and we can easily find parts that are just as run down, if not mimic the California lifestyle. Grow up. I hope all of us can enjoy the game and be respectful without making acccusations or uneducated judgements. Peace.

You're 100% correct. The NFL got caught thinking this sort of behavior only happened at Dodger games. What we're starting to see is soccer hooliganism beginning to make its way over here.

Tickets go up constantly...it's no longer a real family alternative to see more than maybe one or two NFL games a year. You either get the rich/corporate sponsors who don't give a crap and show up late and leave early, or you get the rabid fans whose entire identity it wrapped up in the team. (I know there is an in-between these extremes, but that group shrinks with every price increase. Don't tell me that you're not watching more games on TV now that the recession is still on.) The NFL says "Charge what the market will bear." Well, they'd better be prepared to deal with that market.

Some people are just ignorant. It's sad news, but not all that uncommon. I have been a Raider fan since I was a kid, but I don't go to the games because all the idiots running around.

The last game I went to, I personally saw 9 people cuffed up, some guy pissing in the corner of the bathroom, drunk or delusional people screaming profanity at the opposing team (like it makes a difference), and several fights. The NFL cannot deny this is a problem. They should count the number of Parole Agents, Probation Officers, and Oakland Police Officers at the game if they think this is not serious.

It's a shame I cannot go see the team I like because of all the derilicts running around with no shame, character or self respect. I understand there are many who attend the game who are not as those described above, but it only takes a handfull of hulligans to ruin your experience and who in their right mind would subject their family to such an environment.

The NFL and the owners really need to clean things up. Until then, I will just stay at home and watch on TV.

Peace

LOL.

You would be correct. It would take the Oakland Raiders to move to get L.A. its one ring. Only scoreboard LA has is the 88 World Series.

0 for 2! Dude get your sports facts straight. Dodgers have 5 championships and Lakers 11 in LA.

"I was just about to go into the service and I was talking to a guy who had just gotten out. I asked him what was the worst thing about being in the service. He thought for a minute and then said “You have to take orders from people you wouldn’t even spit on!!” Now why did I think of that?"

After 27 years of military service I found that there were many folks like this. They had a sense of superiority over their peers and appointed superiors. They believed that they were smarter and better than everyone else and were shocked that no one agreed with them. In the matter of actually performing they were woefully inadequate and would blame everything and everybody for their professional and personal failures.

A common trait which you evidence here:

"My clever comments aside . . ."

What makes you think your comments are clever?

" . . .stories like this are THE biggest reason I would never even consider going to a pro sports game."

Well yes of course the entire NFL is a lesser place because you don't attend games.

So why did this story make you think of that story? Probably because it is giving you a chance to proclaim your superiority over all the inferior peoples of the world, once again.

Just one more reason to get rid of preseason games all together..like an earlier post talked about , the chances that a regular season ticket holder would be kicking the sh!%t out of another fan in the bathroom or shooting someone in the parking lot is albeit not impossible..very IMprobable and remote. The low attendance and ticket availability at these "hyped scrimmages" make it more likely that they're a hangout for the dregs of society that would be doing the same thing..drinking and shooting people.. irregardless of where theyre at. They just get national publicity when its at a NFL game.

I see a lot philly fans speaking out on this? Please, you deserve every bit of that criticism. I would never go to your stadium to watch my skins. Fans outside the area are never welcomed, and you even have the nerve to come over to FedEx and make an a** out of yourselves. I remember in the day that the Redskin Mascot came back with the broken leg from philly, because he was pushed down an escalator after the game. Trust me, it's justified philly.
Your typical knuckle-dragging, grunting, alcohol-addled NFL fans, basically just loosely-organized gangs who tie the outcome of football games to their individual self-esteem. Face it, a solid 50% of these "fans" couldn't "talk football" if their lives depended upon it. They go to games to wear their little costumes and drink as much alcohol as is humanly possible, then, when the suds run out, they become belligerent a**holes looking to punch people. It's sad to see grown men get worked into a frenzy over whether the 49er's are "better than" the Raiders or whatever, as if it matters. They make concert crowds look civilized in comparison.

My clever comments aside - stories like this are THE biggest reason I would never even consider going to a pro sports game.

Other reasons - cost of tickets, cost of food, cost of drinks, cost of souvenirs, cost of transportation to get there, cost to park, waiting in traffic after the game, etc.

What to do?

1) Buy a 6-pack of good beer $10
2) Bag of chips or whatever $3
3) Getting up to take a leak whenever - PRICELESS!!
4) Steak or whatever - $12
5) Getting up to take (another) leak whenever - PRICELESS!!!

For some reason I just thought of something that happened many years ago. I was just about to go into the service and I was talking to a guy who had just gotten out. I asked him what was the worst thing about being in the service. He thought for a minute and then said "You have to take orders from people you wouldn't even spit on!!"

Now why did I think of that?
