Jason Campbell takes concussion test

Jason Campbell AP

When we last left Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell on Saturday night, he left Oakland’s game against the 49ers with an undisclosed injury.

Campbell clarified after the game he took a knee to the helmet. He underwent concussion tests. Coach Hue Jackson used the age-old phrase “dinged up” to describe Campbell.

Oakland’s offense looked pretty bad all night. Trent Edwards replaced Campbell and was ineffective.  Kyle Boller, also competing for the backup quarterback job, wasn’t really any better.

The Raiders rushing game has struggled without Darren McFadden, averaging 3.36 yards-per-carry.

Stop living in denial and face it — Kyle Boller is NOT GOOD AT FOOTBALL!! Kyle’s made a lot of money at it too!

There’s really not enough good quarterbacks to support all these teams.

It’s time to consolidate the NFL to 24 teams.

You got no decent qb — you know who you are — time to stop pretending you are a football team.

Start with the Raiders and all this black jive foolishness.

I want that job, I can suck a football with the best of them.

The raiders represent to worst in football as the idiots that attend the game and try to pass themselves off as fans.

Actually Gregg, the first string offense didn’t look too bad… Campbell was 5-7 for 74 yards and had moved them to the 2 including 2 great catches by yes… um DHB….. In truth though, they do need to get Dmac back to establish their running game. The stats looked a little skewed because SF ate the clock with long drives, where the Raiders moved down the field fairly quickly. Edwards only played 1 series.. after he came in when Campbell got hurt. Boller didn’t do himselves any favors with his pick and missing a wide open Bodiford. Overall, not a pretty game by the Raiders… but not as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be either. In truth, the first string D gave up a lot of yards, but bailed themselves out with 2 picks… Still worried about the inability to contain…. been the Raiders biggest weakness for 8 years and counting.. and so far, not seeing much improvement. Am just thankful was a preseason game and hope that it is used as a learning experience. There were positives… DHB is becoming at least a servicable receiver… Denarius Moore will be a star in this league… King Richard still looks great… and I still expect great things from McFadden and from Jacoby… throw Moore opposite Ford as the starters and use DHB as a situational guy for the time being… Use McFadden to wear out the D, and the beat the hell out of them with Bush… The Raiders offense will be fine… it’s going to be the D that struggles again if anything…

Redskins, Bills and Ravens fans are shocked to discover that Campbell, Edwards and Boller looked ineffective at quarterback.

Ill be happy if my team gets 8 wins this season, lost to many keys players & so far ever one is hurt and now Jason Campbell down & we sign only one decent free agent Kevin Boss, if we want Luck that bad just forfeit the season now & save me 16 weeks of high blood pressure!!!

@skins757 … So has Rex Grossmam , and Beck is your starter . You should keep those QB comments in the holster . Wash has 0 division titles this millenium , ouch !

  17. RussianBreadMaker says: Aug 21, 2011 12:34 PM

Jason Campbell is a hard worker and a all-around nice guy, but his decision making in the pocket is too slow.

the raiders looked really bad. had they been playing a competent offensive team they wouldve been blown out. that raiders D looks really bad.

but keep telling yourselves your playoff bound, oakland.

You seem to say you watched the game.

The “Raiders D” played the first series. From then on, other than Houston playing some of the second series, it was the 2nd team.

It certainly was not all roses, but here are the facts, down 0-3, and moving the ball, something they didn’t do with the first couple possessions, Campbell gets hurt, goes out and as we all, know there is a huge dropoff at QB after Campbell. The niner first team had already given up two picks, good thing they got taken out for the niners sake, and they could just run against a porous scrub defense the rest of the game.

Second team D was already in, we don’t play Ford, DMC, Murphy, Schilens, or Mitchell at all.

    Preseason,, no big.

Brady Quinn to the Raiders for a 2nd round pick next draft!

  21. nomoreseasontix says: Aug 21, 2011 1:41 PM

As a Raider fan, I hope there are no lasting effects from the hit. I also hope Edwards can break out and be an NFL quarterback.
I’ve said all along that Campbell is not the guy. All of my Raider fan buddies have been hoping that up until this year he’s only LOOKED like a bad quarterback due to circumstances he couldn’t control. I called BS on that. He doesn’t think quick enough, gets rattled too easily and that long, loopy throwing motion makes it impossible to get the ball out fast enough. Pay attention to how many of his completions down the field are due to the receiver coming back to an under thrown ball.

    He’s just not very good.

And it’s gonna be a long year.

  22. cowboyhater says: Aug 21, 2011 2:01 PM

Maybe the Raiders can trade for Kellen Clemens from the Skins for a future 4th round pick a la Jason Cambell……. just saying……

Please somebody agree with me when I say we go after Tim Tebow. We need a quarterback that can move. He can take alot of pressure off our O-line by making plays with his feet. People say he can’t throw, well I say neither can the guys we got now. I challenge any raider executive that can read this message. We’ve made horrible trades before, why not make a trade that could help us this time.

  25. nomoreseasontix says: Aug 21, 2011 3:49 PM

And please stop the Pryor talk. He’d just be Campbell v2.0 only not as smart but faster.

  26. huejackson says: Aug 21, 2011 4:05 PM

whoever that raider fan is asking fora trade for tim tebow please burn any raider merchandise cause clearly u are not a fan…

the Raiders starting D played the first 2 series. they had started to change players in the 2nd drive. and like i stated, if the 9ers had a good offense like say the Chargers do, the Raiders would have been down 17-0 before halftime. and 1 of the picks you claim to have gotten was a throw by the SF punter on a mishandled FG. lol the Raiders D got ran and passes on all game, first team, 2nd team, 3rd team etc…SF accumulated 130 yards on their first 2 possessions.

i know its preseason but the raiders have looked below average to say the least on both sides of the ball. sure they have injuries, they also seem to not be able to run or pass the ball effectively. i dont care about Ws and Ls in these “meaningless” games, i just look for individual improvements, team adjustments and production. the SF O line isnt spectacular yet they made the Raider front 7 look pretty bad. and lets be honest, that Oak secondary is garbage.

  28. theblowtorchreview says: Aug 21, 2011 5:01 PM

Jason Campbell hasn’t changed much, if any, since he left Washington. Too slow to develop plays…… which is why he gets beaten like a rag doll every game.

    This will never change.

Im still mad! not that any of this has anything to do with this article. LOL Oh yea the year before LSU won it and they had to split the championship. Im pissed about that to.

You mean to tell me you wouldn’t take Tebow over any of the guys we got right now? Then you must enjoy watching our crash test dummy quarterbacks get lit up when they don’t feel the pocket collapsing. You wanna know how bad we are? Our kicker’s field goal range is the 45 yard line and we can’t even get past mid-field. 5 yards past the 50 yard line and we’re in field goal range and we can’t even do that. 3 fricken points yesterday. We need to make a move now because if we’re stuck with what we’ve got, brace yourself for the inevitable.

To Grimmlock: Are you out of your friggin mind? No way in hell would I take Tebow over any of the QB’s on the roster. Yes, they are all crash test dummies.. but the problem is with the line.. not with the QB’s…. And Tebow certainly wouldn’t solve the situation… Good God… Tebow?

  34. bwisnasky says: Aug 22, 2011 8:41 AM

We did move the ball in his range on more than one occasion… and didn’t kick the field goal because we went for it once, or had stupid penalties move us back out of his range… we moved the ball fine… we just haven’t punched it in so far this year.. we moved the ball in both preseason games.. why do you think Jano was 4-4 in the first game? Like I said.. the offense will be fine.. McFadden will help us punch a few in…. I’m more worried about the defense where it seems no matter whether we change coaches, players or whatever, we just can’t seem to figure out how to stop the run.. no matter what? You’d think after 8 years somebody would surely see this as an issue…
