@ Marcsasharc

I sound like an idiot? Maybe you should go back and proofread your reply to my post and check for errors, then we can talk about who sounds like an idiot. Until you learn the rules of grammar and punctuation and decide to abide by them, any argument you make is invalidated by your obvious ignorance. (I’ll give you a tip, the beginning of each new sentence should always be capitalized)

Grammar aside, I still can’t say that I agree with you. I don’t remember saying that the Niners need to pick up another RB right now to replace Gore since he is obviously still on the team. You see, San Francisco would only have to find another RB should they acquiesce to his trade demands, which clearly hasn’t happened yet (I’m not quite sure what was unclear about this point, but maybe I confused you. Goggle “hypothetical question” and you’ll understand my question about which free agents would be available as an upgrade, if the Niners decide to trade him). Since Gore seemingly wants out of San Fran, they have three options as I see it:

1. Sign him to a new deal
2. Don’t acknowledge his demands and hope that either he will resign at a reasonable price or hope that there is a better option out there via free agency
3. Trade him now and try to get some kind of value for him

None of those seem like great options, but if the Niners want to win now, getting rid of Gore via a trade is not the answer.

P.S. While we’re on the subject of dumb arguments…. just because San Francisco has been among the worst franchises in the league recently doesn’t mean that they couldn’t get worse. “Well, our team’s already bad, losing one guy couldn’t make them any worse” … What a terrible attitude for a fan to have toward his or her team.
No Gore and no contingency plan if he leaves via trade or free agency = decidedly worse San Francisco team.

--------------------------------------------------

you are really gonna pull the grammar police card? especially to prove you arent stupid....really? and then you will make spelling and grammatical errors? lol nice try, broseph.

Gore is a good player no doubt about it, but he is getting old and he isnt exactly a guy you can rely on to not get injured. especially since hes missed games late in the season for many seasons. thats a sign of wear and tear with no indication that he has healthier years ahead of him. its simple logic.

you say the team is decidedly worse without him. were the Chargers decidedly worse when LT left? or the other many examples of an important player leaving without the teams production suffering. believe it or not but 49ers are not thin at RB this year.

if he wants a Deangelo contract, no thanks. im not willing to lock him up for 5 more years at 8 mil with 21 mil guaranteed. that is a large gamble and i dont think, like many SF fans, that it is a reasonable contract for the team. plus, if SF trades him before this years deadline it will be because they have reasonable belief that production at the position wont significantly decrease or they found a deal they couldnt refuse. is Gore a top 5 RB in the league? possibly, hes right around there. will he be in 2-3 years? im pretty certain he wont be.

and then you criticize my attitude that losing him may not be a big deal since the team hasnt been good. first off, that isnt my attitude numb nuts. im simply stating that you have no idea how the team performs after that. you act like every team that has let go of a key player turns out to be worse than before. no contingency plan? theyve drafted 2 RBs in the last 2 years, both of which look to easily make the team and perform many roles for the team, including sharing carries. not to mention the additions to the OL the last 2 years and 2 very capable starting WRs with the most dangerous TE in the NFL. Harbaugh is a coach that uses interchangeable RBs anyway.

Btw, I would not trade more than a 3rd rd. draft pick for a 28 yr old RB.
_________________________________

Or just wait for him to play out this season and pick him up as a 29-year-old free agent next year. Why give up a perfectly good third-rounder for a guy who wants a huge payday today, when he'll probably be a FA next year, and you can sign him for his real "market value" and not give up a pick.

If SF doesn't want to pay him big now, they definitely won't want to do it next year, when he's a year closer to pasture. It seems doubtful they'd want to waste the franchise tag on him, as a holdout would be highly likely.

Read between the lines here: This is Gore's last year in SF.

last year, frank gore had 853 total rushing yards. he also had 452 total receiving yards. Missing five games, mind you, Frank Gore totaled 1305 total yards, with 5 total touchdowns (3 Rushing, 2 Receiving). Even though his 21st ranking in rushing doesn’t matter because he did not play the entire season

-------------------------

But it does matter. That's the whole point. Sure when he's healthy Gore has shown that he's a good running back and has been one of the few bright spots of the 9ers roster. But he been injured. His season ended in week 12 last year. He was injured the year before and in 2007.

And if you read carefully, most people aren't saying they want to get rid of Gore. It's just they don't feel he deserves elite RB money because except for his great 2006 season he hasn't consistently been an elite running back. He's been a solid offensive producer who looks a little better because he's the only one on the offense that's actually really doing his job.

But consider this. There's a lot of talk about how his injuries are the result of him taking the brunt of the offensive load. This isn't born out by the numbers. However, one of the reasons Gore's total yards is low is because he actually didn't have many carries. He only ran the ball 203 times last year, which is a hundred less then most of the top tier running backs. Despite the fact that Gore has for the last several seasons run less in a game (partly because the 49ers were often playing from behind) he has been fragile.

The 49er passing offense was ranked last year 18th in the league, their rushing offense was ranked 19th.

It's also important to note that despite the 49ers Offensive Line being terrible on pass protection, they have always been solid when it comes to run blocking.

Really I would be disappointed if the 49ers were unable to come up with a deal for Gore, and would love to see some good incentives built into his contract. I just don't want to forfeit the 49ers future on him when he seems to be on the declining years of his career.

Gore was injured a lot in college too. That's the huge knock all the "experts" put on the 49ers for picking him as high as they did at the time. So to say it's the line's or offenses fault is somewhat ignorant. I agree the situation hasn't helped him any, but his running style broke him down before ever even entering the NFL. He is a beast when he is healthy, and I love having him, but he has only completed one season in his career, and that will probably be his only one. He is a beast when he is healthy, but you can't rely on him being there. Especially if they managed to sneak into the playoffs

Here's the deal: Frank Gore is a great player. He's not one-dimensional. He's the Niners best player on O.

What he has done for this team with his talent should earn him a new contract.

BUT - if you're the Niners...you have to be smart. You NEED Frank Gore. He's more useful to you than any other team right now.

That being said, he does have an injury history. So what makes sense to do is give him a fair 3-5yr deal loaded with incentives and an injury clause.

At worst, give him a contract that you can bail on after two years if he gets OLLLD. It happens.

But either way, Frank Gore deserves a nice little payday right now. Tell him he can earn more if he reaches certain numbers. But don't do a deal you have to stay with. Have to be smart.

I can’t believe all you 49er fans want to pile on
Gore and say that he is washed up when he has easily been your best player over the last 4 seasons (with the obvious exception of Patrick Willis on the other side of the ball). He probably wouldn’t have been hurt so much if he wasn’t asked to carry the offense behind that Swiss cheese o-line. He doesn’t deserve the kind of money he’s asking for, but the 49ers should consider an extension because frankly, what else have you got? Which free agent rb available right now would be an upgrade over Gore? None. Which rb currently on your roster could even come close to the production that Gore has given your team over the last 5 years? I don’t see why so many of you are ready to give him the bum’s rush when the 49ers would be a decidedly worse team without him on the roster.

---------------------------------------------------

its not that we dont appreciate Gore, we are thinking about the future of the team logically. id love to extend his deal, but at a good price. i dont want the team to fork out a ton of $ right now for him. sure hes a great player, but hes also an old RB. to say we couldnt get anotehr guy to produce at RB next year is ridiculous. theres a thing called a draft and a thing called free agency. plus the 9ers have 2 young and talented backs. and you sound like an idiot asking what free agent RB right now is better....lol there isnt a better 1 but Gore will be playing this year so thats not only a non issue but a dumb point to make.

and decidedly worse? we are talking about a team that has been perennially bad the last decade.

last year, frank gore had 853 total rushing yards. he also had 452 total receiving yards. Missing five games, mind you, Frank Gore totaled 1305 total yards, with 5 total touchdowns (3 Rushing, 2 Receiving). Even though his 21st ranking in rushing doesn't matter because he did not play the entire season, the 49ers had absolutely no passing offense last year with the revolving quarterbacks and lackluster receiving corps, so it wasn't simple enough for Frank Gore to just run over the defense every down when the defense knew that none of the 49er quarterbacks were a threat in the passing game. So when they switched it up, he became a contributor to that, being that he has been the only consistent offensive weapon for the 49ers in the last few years. Hell, I watched Frank Gore win a couple of games by himself last year, doing everything on offense. He was on my fantasy team as well.

Sadly, while Gore definitely has the ability when he is on the field to be a game changer in every aspect, he has been fragile his whole career due to his aggressive playing style and often-heavy workload on offense (249 total touches in 11 games last year, compared to 281 total touches in 15 games in 2009).

Oh, yeah, and this guy hasn't played a full season of NFL football since his second year in the league? 2006? Would he even make it to the playoffs on a playoff-calibur team? Who knows, but I hope he will. He's a great back.

Put this guy on any team with a half-decent offensive line, and a half-decent QB... and you're set. PEople say he's always injured... but he's averaged over 1000 yards every single year he's been in the league. He also averages 380 receiving yards per season.

He's never been below 4.2 yards per carry in a season, and he averages 4.7 yards per carry for his career.

This is all playing on a horrible team with plenty of QB changes and plenty of coaching changes.

You all say he's close to done, I say he is close to exploding for a huge season if he had any kind of help!

Yeah, I've liked Gore since he was drafted, but he isn't worth big money. I'm all for a reasonable extension, but let's be frank. Gore has had injury problems dating back to college (which is one of the reasons he wasn't picked higher) and while he's pretty decent as far as yards per carry, his total output for a season has always lagged. Last season he was ranked 21st in the NFL as far as total yards with only 853. Elite backs are expected to have twice that many yards. As far as yards per carry the NFL actually has some pretty outstanding backs right now and Gore was ranked 25th in the league (discounting Michael Vick) with 4.2. In contrast Jamal Charles led the league in yards per attempt with 6.4 and a season total of 1,467.

I'm also not sure that this is the ideal time to press the issue when both the second and third string running backs (albeit against second team defenses) both performed remarkably well in the last preseason game.

5 mill a year for someone who never finishes a season….what did you expect Frankie, prostitutes and yachts……yeah…the U jokes are stuck forever for all of you ex cheaters….

Ticalcaldwell = Fail

How were they cheaters?? Does anyone honestly think "boosters" only worked for the U? On a side note, he's not worth DeAngelo $$. Although neigther is DeAngelo.

This is the problem with the current NFL FA structure esp. re: RBs: An RB's career value goes down very fast. After they have proven themselves in their first or second seasons, these RBs should be allowed to get paid what they are worth. The current system denies them that.

Btw, I would not trade more than a 3rd rd. draft pick for a 28 yr old RB.

Bigcali:

Alarm, alarm, alarm, wake up wake up. You must be awoken from your fantasy dreams. Maybe the 49ers will consider trading gore for the first pick in the draft. The other team will happily trade the first pick of the draft (Andrew Luck) for a 28 yr old rb with one year left on his deal wanting a huge deal? Seriously dude? You really think that may happen? You need to wake up because your obviously in a deep 49er fantasy dreamland. No team would ever, ever, in a billion yrs, trade the first pick in the draft for an aging rb who wants a huge deal. Especially when said first pick is expected to be the next Peyton manning.
