I actually thought we gave up on Alphosno Smith way to early. Goodman was suppose to be the starter and hasn’t panned out yet. I know when Smith went to Detroit he tore it up.

Besides all the horrible picks and people he ran out of town. Cutler, Marshall, Sheff, why did JMD really trade Peyton Hillis? I heard some dumb rumors, but figured no way! I am naive due to being a Donkey fan the last few yrs.

There are so many horrible picks by McDaniels, but this one was a particular gem.

A second rounder.

Unbelievable.

It was torture while it was happening, but the embarrassment by everyone in Dove Valley has to be incredible. They all nodded sagely at the horrific decisions being made, with the message of “Be patient and wait to see what comes of it…” Ultimately, they all looked on and did nothing, while one of the NFL’s proudest franchises was reduced to rubble by one man.

It still makes me sick when I think about it.

You guys might have seen Alphonso Smith looking bad last Thanksgiving, but stick around. Detroit tends to sharpen up discarded 1st rounders and turn them into useful players.

In addition to Smith, Bobby Carpenter is going to contribute for Detroit this year. The Matt Millen Era is over in Detroit. Detroit now keeps guys they draft, and signs guys who can play. They might be a year away, still, but this year is going to be interesting.

Note the combined stats for all four Detroit QBs so far this preseason:

42 of 62 (65%)
515 yards
6 TDs
0 (that’s ZERO) INTs
QBR 125.1

Yeah, it was the Bengals and Browns, but understand in the last 4 games (two last year), Stafford has thrown 9TDs and 1 INT.

Detroit’s fourth QB, Zak Robinson, is so good they can’t even stash him on the practice squad…he’ll never make it through waivers.

Depth, baby…building from the bottom.

Me too. It became even more hilarious when that same Alphonso Smith got torched by NE on a national stage last Thankgiving.

Didn’t they also use a future 1st round pick to trade up and get Quinn? The McDaniels era in Denver was epic (fail).

Why in the world would someone claim him, then pay him(as someone who hasn’t performed even as a blocking tight end) two years worth of money for one years worth of service(one on I.R. and the other in the last year of his contract)? It makes absolutely no sense and I think would be a shock.

Remember the first thing that McDaniel did was alienate Cutler. This led to the QB mess that they are in now where Kyle Orton is their number one even though they did everything they could to get rid of him and Tim Tebow already looks like a bust. I remember wondering at the time of the Cutler mess how the ownership could idly sit by and let McDaniel destroy the team, even though the team started to do down the drain only 5 minutes after McDaniel arrived.
