Many of you guys contributing here just don’t understand Mike Brown.

I’m not defending him; he’s a terrible football GM; but please understand this.

If Carson were to suddenly pitch up in CIN pre-season to try and force a trade; Mike Brown would swallow his salary; list him as the 4th QB;
tell Marvin he’s playing the season with 52 guys, and make him ride the pine all season. And Carson knows this.

Mike Brown is one stubborn SOB, and will not give in here, even if he loses out on future draft picks.

I live in Cincinnati, I like football, so the Bengals are all I have (well and the Buckeyes). Since we are stuck with the Brown family, I’m putting this on Carson. Kid you think MB is bad, it’ll be even worse when Katie takes over. Did he just one day wake up and was pissed he played for the bengals? Or does he not like Marvin Lewis? Carson signed a huge extension a couple seasons ago, Marvin was brought in January, then Carson leaves. Hmm

He needs to show up and make them cut him. No way they pay $11 mill for him to sit on the bench. I’d want that money, and force the owner to look like the bad guy. Show up, then go to the media and say “I want to play for this great city. I want to win” and then let the teams try to PR spin it.

People act like the Bengals will actually get something for Palmer. A late round pick is only good for a team that actually has scouts. And we all know nobody’s going to give up anything more than a 5th round pick for a guy that has looked tentative and weak-armed since his elbow injury a few years back.

I love how most of the people here think CP is talented. Dude has sucked since 2007. If he’s tired of losing then he should stop sucking. He lost a lot of games for this team last year by trying to force throws to TO and Ocho Dinko that ended up going the other way. I think he threw something like 6 pick-sixes last year. It was unreal.

All you Dolphins fans clamoring for him would only be getting a slightly older version of Chad Henne, which I would assume you don’t really want.

CP is an average QB at best, not a franchise QB. You people should really know what you’re talking about before you go running your mouth about it.

Dude is over rated. He had one good year then broke his legs in the playoffs (the year I won my first fantasy championship and with Palmer) other than that, the guys done anyway.

The usually insufferable Rick Reilly made a decent point about this situation – Palmer could theoretically wait until the Bengals have made their final roster cuts and then report, forcing Brown to either spend way more money on the 2011 squad than he wants and make a bunch more emergency cuts, or to actually trade him.

If Palmer was traded before training camp, Bengals probably get at most a round 2 draft choice. If he is traded at the beginning of the season, they may be able to do better.

Andy Dalton will do ok…he just needs time to learn.

i for one am on cp’s side and i’m not a bengal fan i do feel for bengal fans tho.cp wants out of cincy because the team (mike brown mostly) is not serious about fielding a winning team they do get some quality players and they seem to be headed in the right direction but when it comes time to pony up the dough for bigger contracts to keep good players mike brown keeps letting them go.cp dont have it in him to give 100% to a team that dont want to give 100% to trying to win and i dont blame him and i wouldn’t blame any other player that wanted out of cincy because they have an owner that is more concerned with personal wealth than putting a quality product on the field.cp should show up a day or 2 before opening day and force mike brown to pay him or trade him and maybe he can go to another team that atleast tries.as for his brother being the one who gets cut if cp shows up well i believe jp wont be cut because of his bro he’ll be cut because of his own play and both of them understand that better than anyone else

LOL. There is NO comparison of Palmer to Ocho and Terrell.

I hope he shows up the day before the first game and forces the bungles hand.

I feel really bad for players drafted to teams like the bengals, raiders, redskins, etc. They are stuck.

I wish the new cba had addressed this more.

I can’t say I truly know the Bengals roster – but it seems to me – that they are seriously lacking and Palmer is tired of playing for a losing club.

My guess is that as noted – he will report in the nick of time, collect his denaro – and then wait for the trade, whatever.

I doubt you will find many Bengals fans that are happy with the way Mike Brown runs things, but at the same time, I doubt you will find many that appriciate the way Carson handled his business either. Kind of a catch 22 for Bengals fans as to which side to choose.

The Bengals have an ace in the hole though. Jordan Palmer (Carson’s little brother). If the Bengals were to keep Jordan as their 3rd QB, Carson showing up at the last minute would cost his own brother a $400,000 or so payday. That would be a pretty crappy move on both sides, because Jordan isn’t the 3rd best QB on the Bengals roster and Carson would be screwing his own brother.

I don’t like it, but I think the Bengals (Mike Brown) will keep Jordan in order to prevent Carson from showing up at the last minute.

Crazy talk, I know, but it’s possible.

You all should read Gregg Easterbrooks article on espn.com about how profitable it can be for a team to be stingy. Palmer has seen the Bengals spend just enough to seem like they are competing but whenever they get any momentum they let the key pieces go rather than pay them (hello Jonothan Joseph). Palmer has been a good company man for years but something has happened behind the scenes for him to say enough is enough, I want out. Palmer has stated that he has saved his money and doesn’t need anymore. He can no longer play for a franchise that isn’t trying to win.
