The fact that the Colts signed quarterback Kerry Collins on Wednesday suggests that the team only recently concluded that starter Peyton Manning may not be ready come Week One. But they’ve apparently been planning or Peyton’s possible absence for a while.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Colts made inquiries regarding the availability of Matthew Hasselbeck, before he signed with the Titans.
It’s unknown whether the Colts explored any other possibilities (cough . . . Favre . . . cough), but the signs continue to point to problems for Peyton.
