I thought the Bengals were wrong by not making Palmer available for trade. He was no longer a fit for the team. For the money he was making and his performance they should have been looking to trade him before he asked for it. Plus he was a good loyal member of the team for a while and spent many years there they should have gave him a chance to go somewhere else. I thought it was dumb not to move him.

But if Im the Titans Im telling Chris Johnson that he is going to play for the Titans or not at all. I do believe he deserves a new contract but what hes asking for. You dont change the system. Its the same as Crabtree when he was trying to blow the slot. thats not how the NFL works u get paid by you position. Anyway the guy has only been in the league 3 YEARS. I dont care how could those 3 years are you dont deserve top of the NFL money when u havent finished ur 1st contract. Manning was more important to the Colts after his 1st 3 years but he never would have asked to be 1 of the highest paid players in the league. Have some humility.

So If Im the Titans Im telling him look. We offered 2 rip up ur contract with 2 years remaining and make you the highest paid rb in NFL history. That's as high as we're going. If you wont sign that contact and you wont come back and play on your old contract, then you just better go finish your degree bc you will not play another down in the NFL. I would tell him their will be no trades no nothing u will either play contract or your career is over.

The Titans cant buckle to him and let him make the rules and set the standards of pay. And a trade would be a victory for CJ. There's no way they could let that happen. They would gain so much respect around the league if they held their ground. And it would set a tone for the future of the organization.

I can see a team trading for him but nobody is going to do that AND pay him $10 million a year.

I don't blame Johnson for the holdout but I think he needs to lower his expectations. He's not as valuable as a QB, his career will not last nearly as long. Someone needs to have a come to Jesus talk with him pretty soon. If Harper has a couple nice games the pressure will really be on.

Johnson wants to get paid big bucks. That means it's pretty unlikely Mike Brown would be interested (that, and Brown just re-signed Benson).

Johnson is talented, but the league is getting to a point where every team has two (or sometimes three) talented running backs to divide up carries. This is a quarterback league now, and the "bell-cow running back" is becoming a thing of the past. He deserves to get paid more, just not his asking price. Trade him and get what you can get for him now, because the reality is, Tennessee isn't going to be a contender this season with or without CJ2K. Yes they have Hasselbeck now instead of Vincent at QB, but eventually Peyton will be healthy and the Colts will be the Colts. Jacksonville is better on defense and has someone who can eventually replace Trent Dilfer 2.0 (David Garrard). Even Houston is better on defense (can they get any worse?). And even if they make it out the AFC South or get in as a wild card (I personally think the wild card will come from the East and the North), they're not an elite team. Trade CJ2K, get what you can get and move on.

This is to madeira2, actually the owner's are the only one's ever on the hook for these huge contracts.

If a player signs a contract, he should play out that contract. A deal was made and both sides should honor that deal.

If Chris Johnson signs a massive deal and doesn't do anything the rest of his career, the team is on the hook to pay him the full amount unless they release him. In that case they take a cap hit and are penalized.

But then Chris Johnson can just hold out and be a baby whining about his deal. If he didn't like the terms or the length, he should have negotiated a richer or shorter deal.

Don't throw out that "right wing capitalist" garbage. If a worker isn't pulling his weight then he should get jack.

I think the NFL should be making full incentive based contracts. You get a minimum salary, and from there, you get paid based on your performance. All players would perform better if they knew their "guaranteed money" was only "guaranteed" for how they perform.

Hey Chris... no one cares that you and the Titans "aren't seeing eye to eye". You signed a 5 year deal that you're 3 years into. You signed it, live with it.

You're 3 years into a short shelf life for RBs with already nearly 1,000 carries and probably demanding close to a $100 million contract from the Titans. What a joke

No running back is worth what he is asking for. Great running backs rarely are the focal point of a Super Bowl champion. They also burn out or get hurt.
Adrian Peterson 2nd leading rusher (4,441 yards) since 2008, 5 years $40.5 million $17 million guaranteed.

Chris Johnson #1 rusher (4,598 yards) since 2008. 5 years $12 million $7 million guaranteed.

If CJ Gets hurt, his career & chance for a well deserved big payday is over. He hasn’t had made12 mill his entire career and there are players and non QB’s making 12 million or more A YEAR! Most of which have never won a Super Bowl.
