Frank Gore starting to show frustration

Frank Gore, Jim Harbaugh AP

Long one of the most well-liked 49ers, running back Frank Gore has had a hard time hiding his frustrations this camp regarding the lack of a new contract.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Gore has uncharacteristically  “snapped” at some of his assistant coaches. Some of his frustration may come from playing more in the preseason than previous years.

Gore is hoping to get a contract before the season starts.  His agent will meet with the 49ers next week in an effort to do so.

It will be interesting to see how many carries Gore gets Saturday night following the news.

49ers have no choice but to do whatever he wants (or almost). He’s the center piece of the offense. He runs very well and catches a lot of passes. The offense is a lot less dangerous without Gore.

  4. bennyblanco99 says: Aug 26, 2011 6:25 PM

Ahh man… I would be pissed too. I love my Niners but they need to give him a reasonable contract extension. He’s still the BOMB and it’s gotta be hard for him seeing Willias and Davis get Phat contracts. I bet he stays healthy since it won’t be him running the ball up the gut 90% of the game

Seeing as how you’re always under the pressure to perform and are under the scrutiny of the general public 24/7, I’d say it’s a lot harder than you’d think.

Hes just being a smart concerned RB, he knows how short of a career that fellow RBs have so he wants to get his money now before he gets any older or gets hurt with the Extra playing time hes been getting in preseason.

  8. starfan79 says: Aug 26, 2011 6:31 PM

The guy deserves it. Pay the man, it’s one of the few bright spots on an otherwise crappy team.

  9. duncanthecat says: Aug 26, 2011 6:31 PM

He’d get the same treatment with the Eagles, and that’s why both organizations have won nothing in the last couple of decades or more.

Who’s he trying to get a new contract with, the 9ers or the University of Miami?

    What a shmuck

  12. nomoreseasontix says: Aug 26, 2011 6:34 PM

It’s kind of idiotic. The smart thing is to let him play out his contract and start looking for the next guy. He’s at a point where he’s gonna hit that wall sooner than later.
They gave him this contract 2 years before the last one was up.

He doesn’t know it but that was his big payday.
He’s entering the short term contract zone. No team is gonna risk a big money long term contract on an injury prone player who’s only likely to become less productive.
If they let him play out the contract and become a free agent, I’d say they timed it right.
Better to lose him a year too early than a year too late.

  13. pettergriffen says: Aug 26, 2011 6:35 PM

stop playing Frank, your gonna get hurt. get your contract set then start risking your livelihood.

“Awwww… it’s so hard being a rich and famous athlete.”

Yeah it is pretty difficult having a job where you don’t get to pick who you work for for the first 4 years, often take serious physical ailments with you into retirement, and oh yeah your career is probably only about 8 years long.

But I’m sure you’ve never said you were underpaid at your desk job.

  15. naednek says: Aug 26, 2011 6:38 PM

As a niner fan, why not just, oh I don’t know, honor your contract that you signed. You still have a year left. They don’t have to do squat.

  18. managod777 says: Aug 26, 2011 6:41 PM

  19. dasportsninja says: Aug 26, 2011 6:50 PM

  20. bossplayer213 says: Aug 26, 2011 6:50 PM

    ——————————–

I’m not a 49er fan, but hommie…get real. Gore is an elite runningback. He just has the misfortune of playing on a garbage team.

Also, Gore seldom complains about anything (until now) and is all class…unlike you and your bigoted comments. Gold teeth, greens and “hamgoggs”? At least, if you are going to be a bigot, try to spell correctly. It’s hamHOCKS…not hamHOGGS. Let me guess, you’re that banjo kid from Deliverance all “growed” up huh?!

  23. henrykissingerisgod says: Aug 26, 2011 7:05 PM

this guy does not deserve an extension at all… they should sit him down and say you are old (for a rb) and injury prone. what in gods name makes you think we will pay you 50 mill and lock you up until you are 34…we are going to make you play this contract out, draft your replacement and then franchise you to bridge the gap…you dont like it then use that degree you earned while at the U hahahahahahaha

  24. nineroutsider says: Aug 26, 2011 7:07 PM

I like how the 49ers are slow playing him. He doesn’t deserve ‘DeAngelo’ money (neither did DeAngelo for that matter!). If he wants to sit, let him sit. I wonder if he snapped at Rathman…that could get interesting.

I would offer him an extension, but honestly he has had this team by the short-hairs for awhile now. The fans love him, but I have read a lot of pieces over the years about his controlling and disgruntled nature. He won’t let backups in, he will put himself in a game. He gets upset when the game plan leans more toward the pass and doesn’t feature him as much. I don’t think this kind of attitude will go over well with the new coaching staff.

RBs are a dime a dozen, so don’t overpay for one that is often used and injured and almost 30. Let him cry, send him home if need be. Sounds harsh, but that is the way business should be done in the NFL and good teams like the Eagles and Patriots operate this way.

…..errrr when you live in a glass house best not to throw rocks, managod777 “ans” call other’s out on their grammar. This internet stuff is serious business.

Do NOT pay da man. He’s been payed plenty, he’s too old now. Hunter is eroding whatever leverage Gore thot he had. It’s too bad Gore had to waste his most productive years on my crappy 9ers. Life truly is unfair.

  26. 49ermax68 says: Aug 26, 2011 7:12 PM

As long as the 49ers are under the cap I see no reason why they shouldn’t rework his contract. Let him have a four year extension with an escalating salary, incentives to stay healthy, rushing and receiving yardage, touchdowns etc. Throw enough money up front to keep him happy and move on with business. He is a game changer when healthy. These are not baseball contracts in the sense that when you sign somebody your stuck with them for the full length of the contract. If Gore breaks down and cant cut it any more, move on. But until that is in fact the case, which it is not, keep him around.

  27. tbbucs1638 says: Aug 26, 2011 7:13 PM

all you guys puttin gore down, let me let you know hes only 27! and had almost 900 yards in 11 games last yr and hadnt had less than 1,000 since hes been starting yea so he definitely deserves his big contract for atleast 5 yrs 45 million 20 guaranteed, he has proven 6 yrs that hes is a solid force n the nfl unlike cj only 3 yrs n already wants to be the highest paid runningbacks in th league? NO WAY! HES NUMBER 4 ON MY BOARD…AND THEY DO NEED TO PAY HIM OR THE ONE OFFENSIVE WEAPON THEY HAVE IS GONE! kendall hunter? yea right! alex smith would have an even worse year than ever!

  31. buffaloniner says: Aug 26, 2011 7:27 PM

I have a lot of respect for Frank and his contributions he’s made to the Niners, but come on man. $5 million for ONE f**king year is really not enough money?? Go ahead and leave Frank, I think you may be starting to overstay your welcome anyway. In all honesty, RBs like him are a dime a dozen.

And to deadeyedesign23, you mention an 8 year career like it’s a bad thing. Wouldn’t you be happy to only have to work into your early 30s and then have more than enough money to retire and live a luxurious life? Oh and trust me, the physical ailments that players take into retirement can also be found very often in many strenuous, back breaking minimum wage labor jobs as well. The difference is that these guys work their whole lives to make less than Frank would in a single year and still have broken and bruised bodies and minds.

  32. sbxxix says: Aug 26, 2011 7:40 PM

I don’t blame the 49ers. Don’t get me wrong I like and respect Frank Gore however the 49ers have two backup RBs (Dixon and Hunter) who are looking impressive in the preseason. I think he still has two more solid years left in his tank with a few downhill seasons to go with that but nothing worth a huge contract. It’s sad to say specially since he has represented that franchise the right way all around (Something a lot of NFL stars can’t say).

For those of you who just trash the 49ers keep a close eye on them this season. The offense has a lot of weapons they’re just missing a QB. I can’t blame A. Smith too much since he’s had a new O Cord almost every season of his career. Some QBs don’t go through that many Cords in their careers. I’m really excited for my team this year. They’ve had a lot of close games the last two years

  47. ceadderman says: Aug 26, 2011 10:21 PM

I’m normally of the mind you play you contract out. But when Baalke and Marathe extended not only Willis’s deal(highest paid LB at the time) an Vernon’s deal(Highest paid TE) they kind of brought this on themeselves.

Huge 9er fan. Been one since before the Catch. Frank has made the OLine look better than it is. How many times was he all but caught in the Backfield only to pop out the other side and go running off downfield. He was the center(no longer) of the Offense with Nolan and Singletary holding the clipboard on the sidelines.

No longer this is going to be a more balanced Offense. No more Bell Cow. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!!

    Still Frank’s worth the Money.

Sentimental? Yeah maybe. But the only reason his numbers have gone down is cause the guy hasn’t had a single complete season since ‘o6. But you put the ball in his hands as many times as we have and you can pretty much figure out why he was injured.

As much as he respects Norris, that guy really hasn’t been opening holes for Frank. Frank steps out on the field and the Line parts as though he were traversing the Red Sea.

Don’t give him the moon, just make sure he finishes his career as a 9er and at a livable contract. The last two contracts were very lopsided in favor of the team. 1st on he got was a bit over $300k since he was a 3rd round pick. 2nd one was a tad better but it had to be at the bottom of the Starting wage scale compared to the 31 other Starting RBs’.

Just got rid of Clements and Mays. Now’s the time to get it done.

hes a great player and the kind of guy you want on your team but he isnt above the team. the 9ers are better off not shelling out large amounts of $ for him. hopefully they can reach a middle ground but it is unlikely.
