Report: Ryan Harris has herniated disc

AP

It sounds like we can cross off Ryan Harris as an option for Philadelphia’s shaky right tackle position.

Howard Eskin of 610 WIP and NBC-10 reports Harris has a herniated disc in his back.  The free agent pickup will have back surgery next week, according to CSNPhilly.com.

Once a fast-rising player on the Broncos, Harris has struggled to stay healthy the last few years.  Early this month, he was viewed as the heavy favorite to start in Week One. Winston Justice isn’t healthy either, leaving King Dunlap at right tackle in the preseason.

  1. Ouch. I was hoping the redskins would have signed him early on but now I why… This guy just can’t stay on the field. To bad to cuz he is/was a very solid player .

  2. Sign up Shawn Andrews… if healthy he can solidify the Right Tackle position.. . When Healthy he is a Pro Bowler… King Dunlap and Wells is not the answer..

  3. wow so the Eagles allready pathatic O-Line is going to look even worse…They better find a patch on the O-Line or that might as well start planning for next year.

  4. jpb12

i think its the eagles….they have the worst o-line in the east right now….and possibly the worst lb’er group.

  5. Still scratching my head on how they never addressed this issue in the draft.

They passed on every OT available and brought in an injury riddled FA to protect the blindside of their quarterback.

    Brilliant.

  6. All that free-agency hype and some turnstiles for an O-line. This is why we play the games. Looks like the Vegas odds makers really did know something we didn’t, too.

  7. oh my god! can you see what i just seen with ryan harris oh jesus christ sit out the whole freakin preseason ryan harris your going to get hurt like just happened right now ok ok yeah and my dog has your name on my dog’s shirt btw ryan harris i hope you get better and play

  8. im assuming my comment is getting thumbs down because of the lb’er comment. please, fellas, prove how me wrong. chaney, fouku and mathews….really?

  9. @ chuckbednarik

You are absolutely right about that 60% statistic. Well done. Any DC training in your background, or do you just have a good Chiropractor who taught you well?

This news is yet another problem for the dream team – it just keeps getting worse on that O-line. Reality is really setting in here. Not to mention LB issues, WR depth with Maclin’s potential issues, and lastly Vick and his history of being injured. If that line plays like it did against Pittsburgh, Philly is in HUGE trouble.

    @Darrkkomens,

You want the Eagles to re-sign an oft-injured player (chronic Low Back problems and questionable drive for the game) they cut to replace another injured player also with Low Back problems? It just isn’t smart, but then again……. Nah. The Eagles ownership and coaching aren’t dumb. They just can’t win a SB.

    Vapporizze3r,

Everybody is making a fuss about the Cowboy’s young line, and all the changes they have made are supposedly going to be a negative. Colombo and Davis getting cut was a good move (even though Davis could be back, it still freed up cap space). I think the Cowboy’s line is going to make its mistakes early in the season, and they will then really start hitting their stride at some point with enough playing time and consistency at their positions. Gurode, Free, and Kosier are the returning starters for now. Costa could join Smith and Arkin on the line dependent upon Gurode’s play after the start of the regular season. All 3 young guys could be starting together later in the season along with Free (who is young himself at 27 yrs old), and then only Kosier is the guy in his 30’s. This line is much younger, will be much improved, and you will see Romo and the offense playing well as a result.

Bring it on, Philly. You don’t scare anybody.

Holy incoherentness batman, what did he just say?

  11. jdandcoke,

I “thumbs downed” you because your choice of drink is suspect and you are making judgements based on reputations and not performance.

If you even say anything about the Packers game, that will get thumbs down too because one preseason game isn’t enough to judge the group on.

They may be the worst, but the truth is, I’ve only seen enough of Fokou to make an assessment. Chaney was a stud last year and Mathews is a rookie. Chaney could have been a fluke and Mathews could be rock solid. Make your comment after week 8 and see what kind of response it gets.

  12. Micky Vic gonna have a lotta yards scramblin this year.

The Eagles should get about 7 weeks out of Vic and 2 meltdown weeks out of VY

Kafka should finish there 8 and 8 season just fine !!!

  13. Well, it looks like the Broncos knew what they were doing when they A.) Did not Re-sign him, and B.) Picked up the road plow Orlando Franklin in the draft.

  14. OMG – Who’s line is worse? Cowboys or Eagles.

Cowboys line is looking great. Tyron Smith was best lineman in draft and is doing great. They have 2 young athletic rookies both worthy of starting at Left Guard. And they have one of the top 5 left tackles statistically in the league in Doug Free, a highly sought after free agent they resigned. Kosier, a veteran guard is the right guard and 5 time pro bowler is the Center. Get your facts straight before you make a stupid comment. Cowboys line is far better than the Eagles.

  15. For all of you who continue to knock the O-line, get a clue about football. Almost every issue was a communications issue, not a physical performance issue. Those are things that are fixed with practice, preparation, and time. Mudd will get it fixed and has two and a half weeks to do so.

I’m only concerned with RT. Dunlap isn’t the answer and who knows what’s going on with Justice. Watkins will be fine by opening day and Peters and Herremans are one of the best LT, LG combos in the league. Jackson will be back at C where he is a potential pro bowler.

none of us are fortune tellers…..but going INTO the season, you have the weakest group….and its not even close right now. yes, eight weeks from now, i may be singing a different tune. as it is though, i only have the ability to live in the present….and presently the eagles LB’er group leaves a ton to be desired.

can a bunch of very young, mid to late round picks form a solid linebacker group? of course they can….but until they do, they wont be too highly regarded.

  17. 2012 Philadephia Eagles personnel policy: Draft the best player at every position and then trade them all for free agents.

  18. @ Zeus

Far too early to say the Eagles should not have drafted Watkins (or any rookie on any team). They simply have not had enough time to practice with their new teams and systems. I am sure Mudd’s system in particular is tough for a lineman to pick up. It is totally different than how lineman are used to being coached.

  19. Dude just get an epidural and take the roxicodone and oxycotton the pain management doctor gives u and get back to work. Get the surgery after the season. I have 3 herniated discs in my back, L3 L4 and L5 and that’s what I had to do to go back to roofing. Yea u might have to play thru some pain here and there but if he truly loves the game it would be worth it to try and win a championship

  20. So I guess this will save Demarcus Ware the trouble of breaking his back the old fashioned way.

  21. They passed on every OT available and brought in an injury riddled FA to protect the blindside of their quarterback.

Offensive linemen aren’t “sexy”. Style over substance. That should be the Eagles’ motto.

Didn’t seem able to do that last year to any of our O-Lineman.

Rooting for injuries, Vox? Bad form, especially considering Romo’s injury caused you to run away from PFT for eight months and change your screenname.

Rooting for injuries? Naw. Expecting them, though. The Eagles have had a bad run of injuries when they play the Cowboys, you can’t really ice over it. Jay Ratliff broke Shawn Andrews. Roy Williams broke TO AND Donovan McNabb. Stewart Bradley got broken last year. The only Eagles players I’ve ever rooted to be injured are Vick and Andre Waters. Vick because he’s a sociopathic criminal that gets his jollies throwing Fifi into a ring with pit bulls, Waters because he threatened to take Emmit’s knees out before the 1992 playoff game (Emmitt steamrolled Waters on a 23 yard TD run and his teammates had to carry him off the field spread-“eagled” with a groin injury).

P.S. Sorry, but Eagles fans can’t lecture me on “bad form”. That’s like Jeffrey Lurie lecturing Jerry Jones on what it takes to win a Super Bowl.
