McNabb, Berrian connect in return to Metrodome

Detroit Lions v Minnesota Vikings Getty Images

After the Vikings’ starting offense largely sputtered in two preseason games, they celebrated a return to the Metrodome with a long touchdown drive.

The seven-play, 83-yard effort was capped by a 49-yard rainbow from new quarterback Donovan McNabb to receiver Bernard Berrian.

For the Vikings, the possible development of Berrian as a vertical option for McNabb would be very good news, given that Berrian was barely clinging to his roster spot a month ago.

The Vikings lead the Cowboys, 7-0.

But it wasn’t. Funny how things work.

    Vikes offense looking surprisingly sharp!

McNugget can throw it a long ways it’s just a matter of it being on target and when it comes to intermmediate and short passes you, me and my dog would have a higher completion percentages than the dirt diggers and Come Sail away from Me that he throws. Last year the backup TE Fred Davis ran a wheel route uncovered and would’ve had an easy TD but McNabb threw a simple floater at least 10 yards to far on a 20 yard pass. I’m extremely hearing impaired so I can read lips and he was smiling and said “Sh*t I just missed my bad D” He’s a great guy no doubt but he doesn’t have his legs anymore and that was what made him so dangerous in Philly. I truly hope he does well this season as a Skins fan and he will throw for a lot of yards but he makes BIG mistakes in the red zone and throws those dirt diggers at the worst time and kills drives.

They are playing the Cowdungs and their putrid pass defense so take it with a grain of salt.

  6. firerogergoodell says: Aug 27, 2011 8:47 PM

Should have been picked? Is that you Carl Gerbschmidt? That was a perfect pass from McNabb. Couldn’t have been thrown any better than that. If anything, Berrian almost dropped it. But not even Bernard Berrian could drop that pass.

@melonhead: McNabb hurts the cowgirls again . Maybe you should worry about your teams woes instead of Philly’s , I mean c’mon your starters just got shredded !!

  8. petehemlock says: Aug 27, 2011 8:52 PM

It’s unrelated but I think It’s time to do away with the “back to football” commercials. I already forgot about the lockout and the ads just feel like a cheap sale of the messy lockout stuff. It’s bad enough they refer to a team as a product but to spread this campaign upon us like some bogus 1849 blindness cure is embarrassing. …

  9. christinamer says: Aug 27, 2011 8:59 PM

Yeah and the Vikings should’ve won the NFC Champ game… ‘coulda shoulda woulda’ doesn’t mean a damn thing.

Ummm it’s currently 17-7 Cowboys. Maybe you should look beyond the first series to see how the game pans out, dummy.

  11. melonnhead says: Aug 27, 2011 9:32 PM

    Pardon me, it’s 17-10.

  12. brintfatre says: Aug 27, 2011 9:33 PM

I hate the Vikings. But it would be cool if McNabb could take them where Favre couldn’t… the same way Rodgers did for the Packers.

It would put an exclamation point on the “and stay out” that we all feel!

  13. supersuckers3 says: Aug 27, 2011 9:37 PM

Holy crap McNabb!! Stop throwing rainbows in that dump. If a ball were to come close to the roof we could have a friggin’ travesty

    @tlaw21,

You start off your post by calling him “McNugget”, then try to claim that you’re making an objective point. It’s kind of hard to do that when the first word of your post is a stupid play on the guy’s name.

Seriously, you say you’re a Skins fan. Get over Donovan already, all you people think he was the whole problem last year. Now, you have Rex and the Beckster, you’re gonna go 14-2 so just enjoy the ride and be glad you’re rid of him.

  16. melonnhead says: Aug 27, 2011 10:32 PM

Cowboys 1’s minus Marcus Spears, Miles Austin, both starting corners and starting 3 rookies on the OL beat their 1’s and whoever they were missing 20-10.

We have a new LT, RG, missing our starting TE, newly returned CB from 2 ACL tears, no starter at safety, Kevin Williams is out, no defined starter next to him and one consistent receiver who has been with the team in Harvin. What makes your team so much more special?

We aren’t making excuses, why bring it up we are in the same boat, what are you the Rex Ryan and the Jets incarnate? It’s preseason between two sub .500 teams. Calm yourself champ.

don’t mention the truth, viking fans are sensitive to reality.

  27. losvandam says: Aug 28, 2011 3:34 AM

That’s McRib for you. He can rainbow the hell out of a the ball, but only after he’s dug holes into the ground when passing short or intermediate routes.

  28. ilovefoolsball says: Aug 28, 2011 5:23 AM

it’s hard to judge any passing attack against the cowboy’s secondary. They’re bottom feeders.

  29. jcg23 says: Aug 28, 2011 5:37 AM

@canadianvikingfaniii Cowboys have a 1st year RG, RT, and the Center he was undrafted last year. They were also playing a 3rd year Undrafted Wide Out in place of Miles Austin.

Our Corners are our #3 and #4, then we lost our #4 and put in our #5. Spears was out as well.

I’d say that made it a pretty un even game and the Cowboys still won with all those scrubs playing in the first half. Yeah, the Vikings rock alright.
