It’s never easy to tell how serious preseason injuries really are. We’ll be keeping an eye on the status of Colts defensive end Robert Mathis in the coming days after he left Friday night’s preseason game with a hamstring injury.
Because of the drop-off from Mathis to Indy’s backups (Jerry Hughes, Jamaal Anderson), Mathis is one of the most important players on the team.
Mathis’ tag team partner Dwight Freeney appeared to be in midseason form Friday night, racking up two sacks while only playing on passing downs.
The Colts were without a number of key players Friday: wideouts Anthony Gonzalez and Austin Collie, free safety Antoine Bethea, and linebacker Gary Brackett.
