and for those of you talking about how bad the Oakland secondary is this year, look at the stats. Oakland had 3 of the top 6 cb's in the league and only lost one of them. You only start one corner, so we are still in pretty good shape. C Johnson is going to be back for the opener and the secondary will be good along with a much improved run defense.

But I still don’t get why we start Nick Miller as returner. We have a team full of the speediest athletes in the league, yet we start Miller. I think we need to hand the keys to the return game to someone else.
------------------------------------------

I think it was Nicky's last chance to prove he deserved to make the squad... He would have had to do something spectacular, which he didn't.. but one last chance to give the little guy a shot....

I don’t know what game you guys were watching but the raiders got pushed around like chumps on defense from branch, huff, kelly, dvd, routt ect.. the only player that looked decent was mcclain.yeah it’s preseason but they looked horrible brees had whatever he wanted

-------------------------------------------

Fair enough, but the starting Raider offense had its way with the starting NO defense as well.. in fact, both teams defenses looked bad... in truth, Brees, whom most would consider a top 5 QB, picked on a rookie who had coverage but couldn't make a play on the ball... all without the Raiders D-line getting any pressure on him for the most part... which is no surprise since the guy gets the ball out of his hand in a third of a second... Believe it or not, people are busting on the kid, but overall, he had good coverage for the most part.. just needs to anticipate and look for the ball... something the great Nnamdi had to learn once upon a time.. and the same thing Routt struggled with at first.. it's a learning process... cut the kid some slack.. no OTA's... no real off season to speak of.. and he gets picked on by a top 5 QB... fortunately for the Raiders.. we don't play top 5 QB's very often.. twice a year with Rivers.. and this year with Brady and Rogers... outside of that.. I'll take my chances with the kid figuring it out...

for all the talk about the preseason, and the raiders need to win etc....bs ...preseason is worthless, and that is why we need an 18 game season. That or make the games 10 bucks to attend.

so all the one's whop feel this way, all i can say is that 4 out od the 5 super bowl years we never had a winning pre season, and the last time in 06 when we went 4 and 1 in the pre season, we had our worse season ever in the history of the team 2-14.

So once again the pre season does not mean anything.

I don't see the Raiders having a playoff season this year. They need another year for the younger players to get experience. That's not to say they couldn't if everything goes right, but odds are against it. Campbell looked good against the Saints defense, and even Boller was decent, but the #3 QB (Can't remember his name, don't want to) was terrible. And yes, this is preseason. You can't completely judge a team when half of their starters are gone at the start of the game and the rest leave at halftime.

CJ is hurt and Lito isn't up to speed, VanDyke is not ready. They'll be o.k.. They played one of the highest scoring teams in league history who is two years removed from a superbowl.
After a few preseason games, I still don’t see what’s so good about Mark Ingram. I’ve watched a ton of Bama, he’s an ordinary back to me. Not really a speedster, not a bulldozer, not a pass catcher and he can’t block a lick either. He can hit a hole – that’s about it.

----------------------------------------------------

The player you hear Ingram most often compared to is Emmitt Smith and people said the same things about him too.

Clearly Ingram has the same kind of vision, cutback ability, and consistent style. We'll see if he has the long-term durability but right now he's exactly what the Saints need. A guy who can churn out 4.3 yards per carry and not have to sit out games with injuries.

Look, If Jerry Rice played his Rookie year with today's Media, he would have been considered a bust after year 1 where he was plagued with dropping balls, specifically in critical moments of the game.

Also, there were other corners who did not have very good Rookie years in Oakland either: Charles Woodson and Nnmadi Asomugha to name a couple. In fact it took Aso a few years to become good.

72% of the Raiders Starters / Contributors have 3 or less years of experience. They are going to look great at times this year and horrible at others. But, they will get better each game they play and will be a factor in the AFC West.

Finally, the Raiders played New Orleans tough into the 3rd quarter when they the score was 20-24 without Darren McFadden, Jacoby Ford, Chaz Schilens, Louis Murphy, Kevin Boss on Offense and Richard Seymour, John Henderson, Chris Johnson and Mike Mitchell on Defense, all are expected back for the opener against Denver, except Chris Johnson.

Raiders look to be a solid 8-8, 9-7 type team. They have some serious offensive depth. If they can find another wideout and can piece together an average line they will do some damage.

As for the Saints, I don't know. Defense looked awful on the opening drive but Harper, Casillas, Franklin did not play either. Offense looked amazing as usual.

Van Dyke will be fine. He was always on his assignment, he just hasn't learned when to turn and knock the ball down. On the first play of the game, he could have easily intercepted Brees. He's a rookie and he'll start making those plays as the season rolls on.
