Brandon Jacobs, Muhammad Wilkerson tossed from game

A Jets-Giants preseason game may not mean as much as it used to, but it always seems to more chippy than most August affairs.

That was no different on Monday night, when Giants running back Brandon Jacobs and Jets rookie defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson were thrown out for throwing punches.

We’re not clear what set off the fruitless exchange.  They both didn’t connect on punches, which is good news since they were both wearing helmets.

On the play before he was thrown out, Jacobs was jawing with a few Jets after he got up from a carry.  The next play Jacobs stayed in to block to Wilkerson and the two men went at it.  They were separated and Jacobs continued to jaw at Wilkerson.

Both players can expect a fine.  At least Jacobs didn’t toss his helmet into the crowd this time.

Poor Brandon he’s another guy the “box of hammers” phrase was born for.

I can think of no good things coming from connecting your punch with a rock-hard helmet…in the preseason no less. You break your hand, you get fined, you may get suspended from games that actually matter. How do you help your team win while serving suspension? Simply mindless…

Wilkerson must have been admiring Jacobs footwork a little too openly (you know, the Jets way)….

  7. cleverbob says: Aug 29, 2011 9:33 PM

Most noise Jacobs will make all year.

  8. hooknosemike says: Aug 29, 2011 9:33 PM

The Steelers and their fans have “zero tolerance” for this kind of outburst.

  9. kashonly says: Aug 29, 2011 9:34 PM

Jacobs still got them Louisiana roots showing through 🙂

Jacobs is a mad man when he is mad. If he can learn to put his built up anger into his pads he would be an even harder back to take down than he already is.

    They both must be dirty……LOL

It’s football. This incident and incidents like Suh trying to get Mankins off his teammate are going to happen. Good lord. Go watch soccer already if you don’t like it people.

  12. kchoya says: Aug 29, 2011 9:39 PM

I predict Ndamukong Suh will get fined for this.

Oh? No dirty comments? Throwing punches, hey that’s just boys being boys.

*at the fans, not you Rosenthal 😀

I think they were upset because they both bet that Mark Sanchez would have over 65 yards passing in the 3rd quarter, and they both lost. What a pathetic offense. No Super for you!

Hmm useless fight when the jets head coach is saying they are the best NY team, plus the team is facing eachother for the first time in a long while?? Seems like they are trying to build the hype for that game if you ask me. Nothing more

  23. schemefactory says: Aug 29, 2011 10:08 PM

jeez, suh would’ve at least asked jacobs out for dinner first…then never called him back. that’s how a real toughguy rolls.

  24. Slackmo says: Aug 29, 2011 10:20 PM

What kind of douche bags get tossed out of a pre season game?

I think this is the year the NFL implodes with off field and on field violence. I hope so anyway!

  30. robolundgren says: Aug 29, 2011 10:53 PM

Imagine that, Brandon Jacobs did something stupid and angry.

  31. janvanflac says: Aug 29, 2011 11:02 PM

I know it’s preseason but the Giants look terrible.

  32. descendency says: Aug 29, 2011 11:25 PM

Rex Ryan’s post game speech said Wilkerson was the best boxer he’d ever seen.

  33. clubergo says: Aug 30, 2011 1:46 AM

Again Jacobs throws a fit at a DL that is faster and in better shape than him!

  34. savannahrose44 says: Aug 30, 2011 4:41 AM

I’m just waiting for someone to break their hand throwing punches at helmets…genius pure genius.

  35. 7to10for6allday says: Aug 30, 2011 7:16 AM

Text book Jacobs, a little trash talk and off he goes, lol. Hes an overpaid, overrated bum!

  36. tatum064 says: Aug 30, 2011 7:30 AM

Love it! Two teams vying for best in New York. Its how it should be…but just not the fighting…like the spirit behind it..this thing had been meaningless in previous years.

  37. kevinfromphilly says: Aug 30, 2011 7:41 AM

I’m starting to think all those crazy ass Redskins fans that said they’re gonna beat the Giants week 1…maybe they’re not so crazy.

  38. sano09066 says: Aug 30, 2011 8:31 AM

“But everybodys run stops.. ask brandon jacobs”

  39. readysethike says: Aug 30, 2011 8:59 AM

I didnt see the game but Brandon Jacobs is always woofin in games, him and Rock Cartwright are always gettin into confrontations…i dont understand how they do it, when I played football I wanted to talk smack, but I didnt have the lungs to do it. after a catch and run id try and run id try and maintain my stamina and get ready for the next play
