Proper use of this hormone is for individuals with severe problems with their pituitary gland…meaning its functioning little or not at all. So you think giving Hgh to an injured player is a proper use for it? Do you realize it can cause further swelling and inflammation which is counter productive to healing? Not to mention the fact that it stimulates cell growth…what happens when cells grow out of control? They form tumors which require surgery to remove which is again counter productive to a fast recovery. The human body requires time to heal and injecting someone with a growth hormone to get them on the field faster not only makes no sense it is counter productive to the desired effect. Saying it is medicinal and should be allowed in any other case than a natural deficiency is just plain stupid and a cover for using it for enhancement purposes.

Why does Clay Matthews always get dragged into this? The guy’s father and uncle had very long and productive NFL careers and now his brother is in the NFL too. Is it so hard to believe that he has the genetics to be a solid NFL player?

Good point, but you’re forgetting about a lot of older players who would like to extend their careers, ie. Pat Williams, Jason Hanson, even maybe Brett. Pretty much anybody in their mid thirties would be a candidate for HGH.

I’m not forgetting about them. They wouldn’t be candidates to have their careers lengthened by HGH.

In their late thirties (and in Hanson’s case, 41) player’s bodies are still producing all of the growth hormone their bodies can use (unless they are naturally deficient, in which case they never would have made it to the league).

A person’s natural production of growth hormone doesn’t decline on average until mid to late 40′s.

And even if were proven that a player could extend his career with doctor prescribed HGH, what’s so terrible about that?

The only possible benefit of HGH to a young player is injury recovery time.

There are no know side effects tied to proper use.

Not only shouldn’t the NFL test for HGH, it should be allowing team physicians to prescribe it to injured players.

Dear US Congress,

We the people would like for our elected officials to stay as far away from sports as physically and legally possible. Please, it’s bad enough you have destroyed our economic standing and embarrassed us globally. Is that not enough, must you stick your tainted hands onto OUR sports as well?

That being said, I have absolutely no problem with players using HGH. It’s medicine! Next players will be tested for Aspirin!

HGH is not medicine it is a hormone. A hormone normally found in humans and animals yes, but the body naturally declines in production of this hormone as we grow and as we age. There is a reason for this. An over abundance of Hgh in the body can cause various types of cancer (including petuitary, colon, and prostate cancer), muscle weakness, and a decrease in insulin production resulting in type 2 diabeties. In a healthy person Hgh is not medicine by any means. In an unhealthy person it may be another story, but by unhealthy I’m talking about individuals who naturally do not produce enough of the hormone themselves (this is the exception and not the rule).

Upton has that big “R” next to his name so he’s coated in teflon. The “vote them ALL out!” crowd will still lather him with love come November.

Though I love the “OMG do this instead!” from the one-track minds who think that just because they can’t do multi-task or delegate, it has to apply to everyone else.

You do realize that the World Anti Doping Agency tests at the Olympics and other international sporting events. This is the same test the NFL of trying to implement.
