Getty ImagesAndre Gurode is done in Dallas.
The Cowboys have decided to part ways with Gurode after failing to come to an agreement on a new contract, ESPNDallas.com is reporting.
Although Gurode was a Pro Bowl center last season, the Cowboys were thought to be leaning toward Phil Costa as the starting center this year. Gurode’s 2011 salary of $5.5 million was too much to pay a player who might not even be a starter.
Costa suffered a sprained PCL last week, but the Cowboys are optimistic he’ll be ready to go for the regular-season opener.

“Pro Bowl” + “Dallas” = fail
the only thing the cowboys have had going for them for the last 20 years is offensive line now they dont even have that
good luck
Bears should cut Spencer, move Garza to guard, sign Gurode for C and put Louis on the bench.
Gurode was only a Pro Bowler because, with offensive linemen specifically, if you make the Pro Bowl once people just vote for you year after year.
Whoa.
welcome to Chicago
Steelers sign him to play guard!
Does it look like the ‘boys will old on to OL Laupepa Letuli out of Hawaii?
I can’t say I’m surprised, but I’m not sure I agree with it.
Well, at least we don’t have to see him launch a shotgun snap over Romo’s head or into the dirt this season. He’s good for a few of these every year when he gets spooked by an aggressive nose tackle.
Can he play RG, if so, we need him in Charlotte.
Yet more proof that the popularity contest that is the Pro Bowl is a complete joke.
Four Dallas starters and four reserves from a terrible 2010 Cowboys roster. It happens every year. Total farse.
ya u mad.
BUFFALO
Angelo get this guy!!!! Bears need him bad. Lets have a good oLine for once!
Gurode to Philly in 3…2…1…
Washington should pounce on him, if not them then Carolina should see if he wants to move to guard, but if he wants to play center Washington could be a team to watch with him.
Cowboys roster = YAWN
Check that – Six (not eight) Dallas Pro Bowlers. My bad. Still BS.
Jerah says, “America’s Team!”. The rest of us say, “over-hyped”
5.5 mill….He was a pro bowler last year…..I hope you know what you are doing Dallas…..jus sayin…You can never have too many O lineman….period…
It should not matter who the cowturds have on the line, the are the greatest team. Isnt there a reason they are picked to win the bowl every year. Hahahahahaha
HTTR
Maybe he will go playwith haynesworth so he can stop his head in again haha
i don’t think Gurode will be unemployed long…..like perhaps less than 24hrs.
I bet the Eagles sign him this afternoon…to keep him away from a potential return to Dallas (see Steve Smith, former Gnats WR)
So let me get this straight from all you experts, if a team cuts a player, then the conclusion is that player can’t play correct? Even if that same team would have been glad to keep that player for half the price. I am just asking the experts
probowl o linemen are always just picked randomly by alot of “fans” from the popular teams. new england, dallas, pitt, etc.
I’m guessing this could have been a pre-emptive move by the Cowboys to start tackling that $20M cap hole for next season.
Jason Garrett making the changes along the offensive line that needed to be made for two years now…

Your post is beyond asinine.
PFT Nation poll question:
I have a week off before I start a new endeavor. Of course, there are productive things I could be doing, if I were so inclined. But I’m not.
My question for you is it too early to start drinking? (I am in the eastern time zone)
thumbs up for “no”; thumbs down for “yes”
Ravens need a C. If they have cap space, he’ll be in.
Garrett is cleaning house. No one is safe on the Dallas roster. I think that’s a good thing.
On his way to Pittsburgh!
He will be a Dolphin in no time.
Dallas haters are silly
“He will be a Dolphin in no time.”
Miami needs this guy over Colombo!
I bet he’ll stay in the division.
Thank you for your time and good luck Dre!

If he can play RG, don’t be surprised to see NE in the hunt for this guy – or any team like Pitt/Indy looking to upgrade OL.
This is a salary dump and part of the overall rebuild (although Jerruh would never use that word) in Big D.
Quite simply, this guy has been hurt and he’s too expensive. As a Cowboys fan my biggest concern is for Romo’s health, when you have the order of 3 rookies starting along the line.
Give them time and with the salary cap room that’s being created, the future is looking good.
@bradwins
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
That is all.
Dallas needs new blood in there . Last years 6-10 campaign was just sad .(not for me)
SF here I come.
Both their centers are hurt.
Sorry to see him go, but his knees are in really bad shape. He may not have made it through the season. I hope Costa is up for the challenge.
Good luck Andre. Hopefully someone will give you a huge 4-yr contract for buckets of money before you ride off into the sunset.
Cullen Jenkins & Mike Patterson like this article.
” Asomugha really wanted to be a cowboy ” … Atleast you still have that fantasy Dallas fans .
So sick of the over hyped, over built stadium, over confident, overly snobbish Cowboys and their fans.
I’ve been to a few NFL stadiums and none exhibited the type of self-important demeanor that Dallas fans show.
Gurode was bad last year and coming off knee surgery just a few months ago. Throw in that you have to pay him $5.5 million and this cut seems like a no-brainer.
The strange thing is… he must have refused to take a pay cut. But, I wonder where he thinks he’s going to make $5.5 million this year on a gimpy leg playing like garbage?

He’ll land on his feat in Philly… Eagles got this.
Lostsok,
Maybe they move Pouncey to guard, Murtha to RT and plug Gurode in at C.

Fans count only for a third of the vote. The other two thirds are players and coaches.

It’s not our fault that we’re better than you.
please come to dc we’d find a place for you!
Screw you, fans of other teams not called the Raiders! In case nobody’s noticed, we still count Samson Satele as our starting center. You guys think you have problems? Puhlease!
Put a big NT over him and watch Satele get squished into the ground, accordian style. I’ll never forget last preseason, when then Seahawk DT Amon Gordon (I think) looked to be trying to bury Samson into the ground, feet first. A thing of beauty, it was not.
So even though Gurode’s most recent trip to Pro Bowl may not have been deserved, at least he’s had a seat when the music stops.
This guy should sign with the Patriots so he can practice against Fat Albert.
Oh wait. Albert doesn’t practice…
He just can’t sign with anyone yet. He’s on a waiver period. Meaning teams with worst record have first dibs.
Stay the Hell Outta Washington, Gurode!!! Don’t want no more old washed up has-beens, especially when they wore a star on the helmet……..YOUTH, Mr. Shanahan, YOUTH
hey i like it as a cowboys fan the line gets younger and the younger players get more reps..look players dont get better sitting on the bench and just playing against the 2nd or 3rd defense in pratice..you have to play in a real game..i think this year the line will have a challenge in some games but next year and 2013 the line will be very improved..dallas is on their way to having possibly the youngest best oline in football..now if we could just get jay ray-dog some help on the d-line maybe just maybe we could make it far in the playoffs..
Doesn’t matter. He was worthless anyway. Let me know when they cut Dez Bryant so I can have my Chiefs pick him up.

Gurode is a center only. He cannot play Guard. He is not mobile enough. Gurode earned his pro bowls. He is just not worth 5.5 million and the quality differential between he and Costa was not worth the cap space or financial outlay.
Welcome to Chicago (we hope)
Great, another Cowboys reject for Sparano to go after. Ugh. If he fits into the mix and makes the team better then fin, but history has proven most Cowboys rejects suck worse in Miami.
well one thing is for sure…his agents phone is ringing today.
Darn, if only the Vikings could afford him. They are in the same bad spot Dallas is in.

Failing to exercise intelligence or judgment; ridiculously below average rationality.
Ironically, cutting a Pro Bowl center makes me more excited about the Cowboys’ season. Garrett has really impressed me. He has the players playing harder than they ever did under Wade, and he has shown that he is not afraid to make bold decisions — like cutting his starting center from last year.
We’ll have to see how it pans out in the long term, of course, but I think we might be seeing the start of a very long and successful head coaching career.

Seems that way. Another mean owner not living up to their end of the agreement…yada, yada, yada. This guy got his guaranteed money and he will get paid by another team. If he was still as good as his salary level, he wouldn’t get cut but some folks only see it one way. He was not good enough for the Cowboys to continue paying him his contracted salary. He may be good enough for another team to pay him more than Dallas. We’ll see tomorrow.
