Brady Quinn appears to have No. 2 job

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Tebow warms up as quarterback Quinn watches before playing against the New York Jets in their NFL football game in Denver Reuters

Brady Quinn worked exclusively with the No. 2 Broncos offense at Monday’s practice, all but completing a month-long process to pass Tim Tebow on the depth chart.

Quinn started as the No. 3 quarterback, split work with Tebow for a while, and now appears locked into the No. 2 spot.  The Denver Post headline says Quinn is “now clearly” ahead of Tebow.

Tebow had a mixed performance on Saturday, and will get a chance to improve upon that this week.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post envisions Quinn playing a series or two on Thursday, with Tebow playing until Adam Weber finishes out the game. The Broncos may rest their starters entirely, like a lot of teams.

Even if Quinn is the backup, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Tebow hit the field in some goal-line packages during the regular season.

So basically if Orton goes down with a season ending injury the broncos are hosed

  2. seneca1ss says: Aug 29, 2011 6:03 PM

OMG! I was on the edge of my seat and eating my fingernails off waiting for some Tebow depth chart news today.

  5. jstorm6 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:05 PM

Tebow is terrible this is a no brainer. Maybe he can pray god smites Orton and Quinn and then he’ll get a chance to play.

    Isnt this last weeks “news”???

    Ouch.

Why pay that much for a #3 QB? Cut/trade him and move on…

  9. emeraldarcher says: Aug 29, 2011 6:06 PM

Since the rule changed, and there is no more emergency 3rd QB, I don’t think it really matters after the starter. Tebow is going to play in some packages and develop, Quinn will probably go in if Orton gets hurt, big whoop.

Backup qb for the Broncos is truly a “No 2″ job

What a total shock. Hodge was right!

  13. staugjag says: Aug 29, 2011 6:11 PM

Tebow will get his share of snaps around goaline and will end up with as much or more total TDs as Orton especially when they go 2-4 and Orton gets benched

  14. feldman9000 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:12 PM

Well here’s your daily Teblow article

    Tomorrow it’ll be

“Backup kicker higher on his depth chart than Tebow is on his.”

  15. jcg23 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:12 PM

Good, can we stop the daily freaking Tebow posts from you now? My goodness I’ve never seen a FB that was drafted as a QB get this much attention ever.

  16. icelovinbrotha215 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:13 PM

I’m rooting for TT but the media is making way too much of this. Neither Quinn or Tebow are ready to lead the Broncos, or any other NFL team, through a regular season.

  17. longhornpride05 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:13 PM

Maybe the Broncos can sign Colt Brennan? They’ll have the best college QBs who couldn’t quite make it in the NFL backing up Orton

  18. feldman9000 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:14 PM

John Fox offense is run run run punt. sometimes it’s run run punt. Ironically he won’t play the running QB. Denver get use to “it is what it is” and “a punt is a good play”

  19. cured76 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:14 PM

That’s a load off my mind. Can you give me any and all updates regarding Tebow for the remainder of the season? I’m dying to know when he’s not going to play.

  20. broncfanor says: Aug 29, 2011 6:14 PM

for the record Klis is one of the biggest idiots at the DP.

Second nothing has officially been announced for the season.

Third it’s entirely possible Quinn is working with the second team because they will be playing the majority of the final pre-season game.

And of course the anti-tebow anti-Faith idiots will come out of the wood works now to spew their venom and hatred.

  21. r8rsfan says: Aug 29, 2011 6:16 PM

And somewhere out there Donk fans are still buying his jerseys and gear, flabbergasted that the team/coaches can’t see what that he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.

  22. tecmobowl34 says: Aug 29, 2011 6:21 PM

every opportunity Tebow has had in the NFL has been because of his celebrity status. From being drafted in the 1st round (as well as picks used to trade up to get him, as an earlier commenter said), to getting the starting job for the last three games last season, to being given even a laughable shot at the starters spot this season…it’s all because of the fanbase of evangelical Christians that follows Tebow. The jerseys sold, the media attention paid, the sponsorships, the speaking engagements, the book tours – it’s all people parasitically using Tebow for their own ends. That includes the Denver Broncos teasing all those people into thinking Timmy would start, and having them march by the hundreds of thousands to go buy merchandise and tickets.

I would almost feel sorry for him, if he didn’t invite all of it for his own self promotional purposes. And if you try to say “what self promotion”, I will direct you to the autobiography written by the then-24 year old.

Tebow needs to wake up and start realizing that bad people are getting rich off of him, and exploiting his “followers” when doing so.

  23. bensstinkyfingers says: Aug 29, 2011 6:26 PM

Quinn and Tebow may not be great QB’s ,but they are both handsome young men. Maybe they should consider putting out a calendar of them wearing broncos speedos etc. God and baby Jesus still love you Tim !

  24. geauxjay says: Aug 29, 2011 6:27 PM

So can the media let it go NOW?

Come on. Tim Tebow gets more media coverage than Aaron Rodgers. That’s riduculous.

    And offensive.

  25. Spencer says: Aug 29, 2011 6:27 PM

Thank you for this ProTebowTalk update. It had been far, far too long since the last one that said basically the same thing.

  26. jasonbournepe says: Aug 29, 2011 6:31 PM

    @ tecmobowl34

Not to mention the fact that everyone praises him for being such a class act and great character guy. Those people need only to read about how he charged people $150 each for autograph sessions after he left college. I heard there were about 10,000 people that showed up.

  27. petehemlock says: Aug 29, 2011 6:34 PM

I think Robert Wagner is a better no. 2.

  28. seneca1ss says: Aug 29, 2011 6:35 PM

Danny Wuerfel and Shane Matthews just passed TeBlow on the depth chart

  29. kayotiicdat says: Aug 29, 2011 6:37 PM

  30. Big John says: Aug 29, 2011 6:37 PM

I’ve never been a big fan of all the hype, but I do think Tim can be a Steve McNair type on the field. He lit it up in high school and college, but needed to adjust to the pro game. I believe he sat for 3 years before becoming the full time starter with the Oilers/Titans- and I’m sure he was more physically gifted than Cody Carlson, but just was not ready.

You guys all remember 97-99 when the “Dare McNair” defense was used against the Titans- 10 men in the box. The Titans ran their runningbacks into the ground, but showed patience with McNair.

In the Super Bowl 34 he performed so clutch to almost win it all at the end of the 99 season. In the years that followed, he was just pure clutch, playing through injury, inspiring the team around him. If Tebow can let go of the hype and find a team that will be patient with him, he can be a consummate professional and make a real mark on the game. One advantage McNair had was that there weren’t enough Alcorn State fans demanding he start immediately in the Pros. Hopefully the kid will persevere. He can be good for the sport, but his fans just can’t try to hold the Broncos hostage like they attempted to do with Jax before the draft.

…ha ha…”anti-faith idiots”…thanks for sharing that funny little “christian” phrase with all of us…but you do realize that the “faith” you are referring to is defined as “a belief that is held without any proof” don’t you?…

    Brady Quinn > Orton

  35. Broncofanatic7 says: Aug 29, 2011 7:01 PM

Funny… Because Tebow was the 2nd QB in for the “dress rehearsal” preseason game on Saturday. I don’t recall seeing Brady Quinn on the field.

  36. realdraftgm says: Aug 29, 2011 7:02 PM

Orton goes up and down the field and gets stoped he allows defenses to bend not break because he is average. the jury is out of Quinn. Teebow scores touchdowns 11 in three games last year topped fantasy scoring during that stretch. Horse face and Fox can spin it any way they want but any time Teebow has been in the game he has done just fine. Won the game at the end just last preseason game and denvers second and third team depth is not impressive on offense. Teebow on the other jand is impressive when given the chance that is why they limited his throws in preseason because they do not want the fans to see any more of what he can do. Good luck winning the fans back horse face after Teebow takes another team to championships while Denver turns out a great defense without the quarterback to win it all.

It’s Tebow, not Teebow. “impressive when given the chance”…i just wish he would start the season so everyone could see just how “impressive” he would be with actual defenses trying to knock him on his @$$ on every play.

  39. fancyleague says: Aug 29, 2011 7:45 PM

    Good post by Big John.

Tebow gets more talk because he did more in college than pretty much anybody. He also doesn’t fit the mold, if you know what I mean. His college passing stats (just passing not running) were better than McNair, McNabb, Vick, Rodgers, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Manning (both of them), Brees, Brady, Favre, Aikman, Elway, Young, Marino, and Montana. Not that the guys on that list amounted to much.

His running stats are just silly.

Michael Vick took ten years to put up non-Kordell stats. Now he’s the talk of the league and the Eagles are already in the Super Bowl. Tim Tebow got 1.5 preseasons to rock the NFL world and is now written off because he doesn’t throw the way the NFL expects. The NFL should change, not Tebow. All he’s ever done is win games against the best competition.

  40. ytownie says: Aug 29, 2011 8:11 PM

As a Browns fan I’m sittting here lmao as the Denver fans argue over whether Quinn or Tebow is #2, and the fact that Fox wants to run and run, while we have the Madden cover boy for $555,000 a year.

  41. dolphandan says: Aug 29, 2011 8:38 PM

Tim Tebow has as many touchdowns in 1 season as Brady Quinn has in 4 (11 touchdowns). Did I forget to mention Tebow also has a higher QB rating 82.1 than Quinn 66.8 and as many 300 yard passing games (1) ?

  42. fancyleague says: Aug 29, 2011 8:44 PM

    @ytownie:

You’d probably be laughing a lot more if you didn’t have Colt McCoy as your QB.

Quinn did not make it in Cleveland. How is he going to be capable of making it in Denver? Like what changed?
