That is alot of money still on the table league wide. There is no way the league as a whole is spending to 98 percent of the cap.
--------

They don't have to until 2013, best believe some of these teams are doing this with that fact in mind.

Some of these numbers are misleading because there are teams, in light of the changes in spending rules coming soon, are holding back cap space now to fill when they extend younger players.

There's also the problem of there not being enough talent available in free agency to fill roster holes, let alone swallow up that cap space. It's great to say "we have x million in cap room available, now let's find some ." But when you're looking at the Roy Williams and Roy Williams of the world to sign a contract and fail to make the roster, it really makes more sense to save that money to keep your own.

i would like to see this at the end of the year, with thier win-loss records. i’m willing to bet the top 10 with the most cap space listed above don’t make the playoffs.
-------

Again. It is a business. Cap space does not equate to spendable dollars. If a team has a bottom line operating income of 4 million dollars in a fiscal year and then goes and spends the 24 million that they are under the cap how are they going to make up that 20 million dollar hit to the expense sheet? If they win they may sell more tickets and merchandise but thats gambling. Financial strapped teams need to watch their expenses and not blindly spend to the point of ruin. This isnt a video game. Its business.

My lions are at the bottom of the list because they are still recovering from the Millen era and HAD to buy those expensive FA’s like Julian Peterson for example. But I would expect them in the next couple of years start to be more in the middle of the pack from building through the draft instead of FA’s.

They are at the bottom of the list because having a top 5 pick in every draft for 10 + years tends to eat up a lot of cap space with all the guaranteed money you have to pay first rounders drafted that high. Justsayin

Just because a team has cap space it doesnt necessarily mean that they have those dollars to spend. Cap space is what you can spend. If you have it as a business.

I don't blame Chiefs ownership for not spending money they don't have.

I was in KC on business last week and they are openly selling season tickets in TV commercials. Where I live, there are 28,000 on the waiting list for season tix.

Last year, I recall at least 2 situations (maybe 3) where a local tv station bought the remaining tickets to avoid a blackout.

This team hasn't played in a Super Bowl in 40 years, hasn't won a playoff game in 18 years and has only won a combined 16 games in the past 3 years.

This is a 2 sport town, and if they don't want it to be a 1 sport town, they better stay under their operating budget as long as they can - otherwise, they may be forced to move markets.

Did you watch football in 2009? The Vikings had a great season and loads of talent, all stemming from not being afraid to spend money for game changers. It's just nice to see an owner that will spend to the cap to try and remain competitive, that's all I was really getting at. Not sure if you follow the Vikings at all but our previous owner was cheap and traded away stars to save money come contract time. It's not the owner's fault we sucked last year.

When someone has the name"Cj2k", they shouldn t get paid nada. CJ would work just fine. I honestly think the titans should trade him now and prepare for future. He is great now but I dont see it lasting. Besides him being small, that is all they have so that is all the teams are going to go after. His shelf life just got cut in half. I see him having a year like larry johnson did after his holdout. Good luck with that guy. P.S. I do think he should get paid way more then he is getting though, but AP is the best back in league and I am not a Vikes fan

Dont think we are complaining, just are questioning why we have some holes to fill with so much money to spend. So go play.

second- @ general public

Once 2012 season starts, these teams will be forced to spend money ( hence the new agreement). So next offseason should be an exciting one for most teams ( *coughs* except the eagles, they are screwed for years if this year doesnt pan out)

Bucs should re-sign Freeman while he's cheap(er). Another good year and his value skyrockets, I think it's worth the risk (could work the other way too). We've seen enough to know he's the man in Tampa for a while, even if the Bucs don't repeat 10-6 this year they need to pay him and have the cash available now

vikesorgtfo says:
Aug 29, 2011 4:07 PM
Jeez Vikes, resign AP and Greenway and free up some cap space! They can’t even afford a rookie minimum on that lol.
---------

As you point out, the Vikings will likely need to backload AP's contract to make cap space. On the other hand, the Packers get to use some of their $12 million to front load the contracts of Finley and Sitton to make cap space in the future. The rich get richer.

As a Skins fan, seeing the Skins still 11 million under cap says a lot to me. Primarily that NFL caliber people (adults) are running the organization now. They traded down to add more picks, and spent FA money on quailty FA additions.

The first sign of hope of things turning around since Gibbs part Duh started. Hopefully the Shanallenhan era ends a lot better than that did.
