We half-joked on Sunday night that the Saints might bring John Carney out of retirement (again) following the injury to kicker Garrett Hartley.

Instead, it appears they’ll sign another longtime NFC South kicker named John.

Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer reports that John Kasay is on his way to New Orleans and expects to sign with the Saints. New Orleans hasn’t released any information on the severity of Hartley’s injury, but this clearly isn’t a great sign.

The Panthers decided to roll with Olindo Mare instead of Kasay, who was on the team since 1995.
