John Kasay expected to sign with Saints

We half-joked on Sunday night that the Saints might bring John Carney out of retirement (again) following the injury to kicker Garrett Hartley.

Instead, it appears they’ll sign another longtime NFC South kicker named John.

Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer reports that John Kasay is on his way to New Orleans and expects to sign with the Saints. New Orleans hasn’t released any information on the severity of Hartley’s injury, but this clearly isn’t a great sign.

The Panthers decided to roll with Olindo Mare instead of Kasay, who was on the team since 1995.

  1. NOOOOOO

Kasay I swear to God I will personally fund your statue outside of BOA Stadium if you would just go to anyone but another nfc south team!

Great Kicker, even Greater person.. HOF worthy for real.

His letter to Panther fans was crushing. What an awesome dude.

Go get a superbowl, you deserve it.

  2. We stole Saints’ HOF LB whose statue forever stands outside of BOA stadium. Saints stole our over the hill kicker. A kicker. We’re talking about a kicker here. LOL

  3. With the kickoffs 5 yards closer, New Orleans can afford to just keep Kasay as the only kicker… It could work out perfectly if the Saints have good special teams players (I’m not real sure how they are against kickoffs)

But, Kasay has enough leg to kick it to the goal line, so even though Saints won’t have many touchbacks, they could pin the offense behind the 20… just my opinion.

What part of John Kasay expected to sign with Saints did you miss?

I didn’t know that RICKEY JACKSON signed with the Panthers, because thats the only Saints linebacker thats in the Hall of Fame. The late Sam Mills is not in the Hall of Fame. *Fact Check*

The Saints use their punter, Thomas Morestead, to handle kickoffs.

Kasay would be strictly a field goal guy in New Orleans…A perfect fit considering the circumstances.

  7. Btw, Kasay completed 86% of his field goal tries last season. Very, very good season. There was no justification in the Panthers letting him go, but their release is our gain. Kasay is tied for second in all time field goals in the 50+ range.

  8. Look – Mare can kick off and he can kick field goals too…for ONE roster spot. His numbers were only an itty bitty bit less than Kasay. Sad to say but I can understand that move.

Go get em Kasay – you deserve every bit of your success.

You got us on that one I would take a Sam Mills any day over a John Kasey, by the way last time we won at BOA it was pretty funny how a Saints fan put a Saints Jersey on the statue. I wish I could post pictures here because I would.

Sam Mills is not in the hall of fame yet and it is pretty pathetic that he isn’t. I am sure “Mighty Mouse” will get in there one day. He was one of the best middle LB’s in the history of the game and an even better human being. It is so sad that he is not alive anymore. He would have become a great coach had he gotten the chance. He was so bright and such a student of the game.

    RIP Sam Mills.

  10. As a panthers fan, I will be pissed to see him twice a year. Hope by some grace of god, he’s just not consistent this year.

  11. Does say expected but if they bring him in for a look they’ll sign him. Wish him all the best except for 2 games. Kicking from the 35 will get him right @ the goal line and field goals are almost automatic.
