Maurice Jones-Drew ready for Thursday return

Maurice Jones-Drew AP

Thursday’s preseason games will be for the backups, rookies, backup’s backups, and even the guys who have no chance to make the final 53-man roster.

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is a rather significant exception to this generalization. The Pro Bowler will play for the first time since offseason knee surgery.

“Still going out there running and still having that burst, that’s really all you want,” Jones-Drew said Monday according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union. “There’s no fatigue factor or anything. I can’t wait to go out there in a live period to see what it’s like and take a couple of hits, get tackled hopefully and get ready for Week One.”

With backups Rashad Jennings and Deji Karim injured, the Jaguars will be watching MJD’s progress closely. So will fantasy owners.

Rotoworld’s online draft guide lists Jones-Drew as a mid-second round pick, but I disagree with my man Silva on this one. If Jones-Drew looks solid this Thursday, I’d be happy to get him outside the top-10 picks.

    Wonder what Cutler thinks…

  2. berniemadoffsides says: Aug 30, 2011 10:36 AM

He’s worth a late 1st rounder in deeper leagues, an early 2nd in 10-team leagues. I still think he’s an incredibly risky pick that early unless you’re deep at RB and/or have Jennings as a backup.

  3. frankrizzo51 says: Aug 30, 2011 10:42 AM

He’ll be nicked up sooner than later and watching and tweeting once again.

As a guy with 4 flex spots, I’ll take my chances with him.

Cutler gets the last laugh with this clown….

  6. ranksarot says: Aug 30, 2011 11:07 AM

sitting out because of his knee? have to question MJD’s toughness. seems a little cowardly to me for him to not play on a hurt knee, if it even is hurt and he’s not faking it.

  7. kspec1982 says: Aug 30, 2011 11:17 AM

How dose Cutler get the last laugh?

Cutler won’t even be a starting QB in two years were MJD will be a starter for the next 4-5 years or more.

As a bears fan you should know now that Cutler is a joke of a QB sorry if im just pointing out that fact to you now.

  8. kspec1982 says: Aug 30, 2011 11:19 AM

Dude played all season long with his hurt knee ran for over 100 yards in 6 consecutive games. Yet you question his toughness that’s a laugh.

  9. ntamson2 says: Aug 30, 2011 11:28 AM

On one leg he still put up 1,300 yards.. can’t wait for this dude to beast mode this year.. stay tuned sports fans

  10. randolph32 says: Aug 30, 2011 11:32 AM

@Kspec….we won’t know till it happens, but QB’s have a history of a much longer shelf life than RB’s….

Cutler gets the last laugh because MJD-bag doesn’t even play in the post season. When his team needs him the most he sits and says his knee hurts while watching his teams playoff hopes dwindle into another lost season. Then he gets to watch Cutler play in the post season again and again.
What on earth makes you think Cutler won’t be starting in two years? Oh, yeah, never mind, you think the Jags will make it to the playoffs and you also probably think your team sells out that stadium! Are there more seats covered by the tarps this year so you can call a game a sellout? LOL
    What a joke.

herp derp, I can forgive Vick for killing dogs, Marshall for being a woman beater, Rothlisburger for being a rapist…….. but ill never forget MJD’s tweet!

  13. pigskinswag says: Aug 30, 2011 11:43 AM

MJD is the truth. He’s the only reason why Jacksonville hasn’t sucked more the last few seasons.

  14. lacharger2112 says: Aug 30, 2011 11:45 AM

OK, I will admit that MJD is tough. Some of the dumbest people I have ever met in my life were also very tough.
MJD you are tough and an idiot.

  15. pbolyard says: Aug 30, 2011 11:46 AM

Hey Arian Foster I bet MJD doesn’t criticize fantasy owners for being concerned with his injury you tool.

  16. weiser5150 says: Aug 30, 2011 11:58 AM

MJD wasnt the only player to criticize Cutler.
Other players who commented about him where Kerry Rhodes,Darnell Dockett,Kareem Brown,Heath Evans,Asante Samuel, and Deion Sanders.
MJD was just the most highprofile player that commented.

Dude can’t even have just 1 last name. Momma wore the pants in the family.

  18. snaponrules says: Aug 30, 2011 12:38 PM

    @ Wieser5150
MJD is far from high profile, an average back on a bad team is all he will ever be.
People single him out because he was sitting at home with a knee injury while tweeting that people who miss a game because a of a knee injury aren’t tough.
He gets singled out because he is a hypocritical idiot, not because he is relevant in any way.

  19. newtonscarpanthers says: Aug 30, 2011 12:57 PM

MJD will have a 1000+ season. Cutler will have 10+ interceptions. I don’t see Cutler getting any better.

Average back?? I think you you need to go look at his career totals there pal

Am I the only one who ever thought this guy was overrated in everything from REAL football to FANTASY football.

The only thing this guy ever did to impress me was knock shawne merriman on his butt in a game, other than that he seems like a jobber journeyman running back on a bad team that will never go anywhere

  22. weiser5150 says: Aug 30, 2011 2:26 PM

    Kinda like LT was?

  23. weiser5150 says: Aug 30, 2011 2:27 PM

@snaponrules….so an average back makes the Probowl twice?

    Bitter Charger fan?

  25. kenosando says: Aug 30, 2011 2:50 PM

@ravenspit let me set you straight, since you are too ignorant to know otherwise. He was born Maurice Jones. He was raised by his grandfather and grandmother, whose last name was Drew. His grandfather died of a heart attack in the stands while watching him play, and Jones-Drew left the game to go to the hospital. Don’t bring even more classless-ness to this comment board.

Wow, another sad and misinformed little man. You just proved when little people get made they rant about anything no matter how wrong they are. By the way, grown men should never right “LOL”.

lacharger2112 I dont know what you’re getting all mad for, cutler stinks your receivers stink and your O line stinks. Oh and the giants ran buckshot over y’all. Bears aren’t making the playoffs. Jags actually have a better chance for playoffs this year.

MJD is the best football playing midget in the league
