APSean Payton half-joked on PFT Live Tuesday that he’d be in New Orleans as long as Drew Brees stayed there.
The Saints are working to make sure Brees is there a very long time.
Brees confirmed to the New Orleans Times-Picayune that his agent and the Saints are in “ongoing” discussions about a new deal. Brees couldn’t help but notice Michael Vick’s contract.
“I did see it,” Brees said. “It looks like a nice contract. Obviously I don’t know any of the details other than the six years and $100 million.”
If Brees kept up on his PFT reading, he would know it’s not really a $100 million deal. We’d guess that Brees will get a contract somewhere above Vick’s contract, but below Peyton Manning’s recent deal.

I’d settle for a contract somewhere between Vick’s and Mannings, myself. Shoot, even 60 million would be okay.

This better be more guaranteed money than Vick… Pay the man, he deserves it, he’s done so much for New Orleans.
How about 5 years, $75 million with $50 million guaranteed?
He’s a smart guy, it’s better to repeat the media line on the contract worth – the more the merrier for Brees.

Now HERE is a player who deserves a big pay day. Whatever he gets, he’s worth it.
He deserves to get paid. Maybe some have lost respect for him as a person during the lockout but his play on the field as a quarterback can’t be overlooked. He means a lot to the team and his efforts to help the community means a lot to the city as well.

Not a Saints fan but Drew appears to be the real deal….he’s both talented AND a class act…most of the posters on here would LOVE to have him on there team and you all know it.

Vick and Brees have been in the league 10 years at least, and they’re both still too short.

Now back on topic, Brees is a top caliber quarterback and anyone who doesn’t think so, doesn’t know football. This guy would get tons of pub if he were playing in NY, Chicago, or Dallas, it just so happens he’s in a small market team like N.O. but without the winning history of GB. If you think that he sucks and isn’t worth a top tier contract then you must have Brady, P Manning or Rodgers on your team because I can’t see putting any other quarterback even in the discussion of comparison with Brees.
Rivers would be the closest but he hasn’t done anything notable.
Bradford? Too young.
Ryan? Hasn’t won any ice or even gotten close, he’s young.
E Manning? Serviceable, yes, elite, no.
Freeman? Stupid haircut will hold him back.
Vick? hasn’t won the big game, hasn’t been successful over a long period of time in Philly.
Cutler? don’t try to be funny.
Romo? I said don’t try to be funny.
Schaub? Too streaky thus far but we’ll see.
I love Brees, but there is no need to hate on Vick. Everyone has their own contract, when you go to work your salary is set upon you and your boss. Brees go ahead and make that money, and Vick do your thing, dont worry about the haters

So by your idiotic retard logic the three quarterbacks that you say that Brees is NOT comparable to are also system quarterbacks. Now, this is at least the dumbest comment I’ve read all day, and on PFT that is saying something.
For one, Brees is the most accurate deep-ball passer in the NFL over the last 5 years. And that’s a fact. He’s given careers to Robert “I can only run fly patterns” Meachem and Devery “I can only fly patterns and square-ins” Henderson.
Does that sound like a “system” quarterback to you? This is not exactly Kyle Orton we’re talking about here.
This should be interesting – if Vick can get $100MM then Brees will break the bank. Not hating on Vick but there is really no comparison between the two. Vick is a criminal, is injury prone and finally, is an inconsistent winner. Brees is the face of the franchise – and he’s a great player and a decent guy. Using the immortal words of Teddy KGB – Pay the man his money!
Give Drew his money!
(Now, can we all just get back to ragging on Cutler and Rivers? That so much more fun than trying to come up with something bad to say about Brees…)
