If you really wanted to understand the Wonderlic and how it should be used, you should find the user's manual and read it. You would understand the test and what it tells you about intelligence, problem solving, reading ability, etc.

Two important points. The reason the Wonderlic was used in the NFL in the first place is that the Dallas Cowboys realized that their offensive and defensive sets and plays were getting too complex for many of the players. They wanted to make sure they were drafting players who could understand the complexities. They were the team that started it all. Yes, America's Team.

Secondly, though it does not measure physical ability and on-the-field reactions, which player would you rather draft (if their physical abilities and football experiences/accomplishments were similar), a player who scored a 7 or one who scores a 24?

As a Buckeye fan - I pretty much have more reason to hate this kid than most - but I do not. He screwed up and he has to live with those consequences.

Having said that - I could care less what he scores on a test because it means absolutely nothing when it comes to strapping on the helmet and walking out on the field to play! It certainly didn't stop him from realizing that under Jim Tressel @ OSU - he would be taught to be more of a pocket QB than a runner first. He was smart enough to know OSU offered a great chance to play in the NFL. He was smart enough to make the choice to attend the college that would best showcase his abilities at one of the elite colleges in the country. He was smart enough to be the hardest worker and best student in the football classroom and was a sponge absorbing anything and everything the coaching staff taught him. He was smart enough, as a freshman, pick up the offense to a point where he usurped the starting role from a senior. He was smart enough to bring three great seasons to OSU including fantastic wins against Oregon and Arkansas (not to mention whipping Michigan all three years). He was also smart enough to know the tsunami of crap he would face personally as well as inflict on OSU if he stayed and went about getting into the NFL. He is smart enough to earn millions of dollars more than most educated individuals and he is smart enough to realize that he has one and only one shot at making it in the NFL and is saying and doing all the right things!

For a kid that did nothing illegal - he gets quite a bit of anger vented towards him - again, this is coming from a Buckeye! Give the kid a break and let him prove whether he is good enough to make it in the NFL. I'm betting he does make it!!!

Maybe the Cowboys should make him their QB.

They might have, had the Eagles not wasted a 7th overall draft pick on the never-was.

I believe he's available. Jerry loves paying top dollar to never-was 1st round talent.

I think that he should have gotten a higher score but some people r genuinely not good at test taking. Plus he's ur typical scrambling qb he's definitely on par with the future wash ups like Russell. I also think he will b better than cam newton but I think he will b a horrendous bust as well. Everyone want the next Vick an they will do anything to get him but a good fast black qb who played well in college doesn't make him Vick

“Tony Romo Wonderlic = 37″. Is that supposed to mean that Romo has a high Wonderlic score but sucks?

------------------------------------------------------------------

Naah, it means that Tony Romo has a higher Wonderlic score than Vince Young, Michael Vick, and Terrell Pryor combined. Romo obviously doesn't suck, statistically he's one of the best QB's that has ever played and anybody that thinks that he sucks obviously wouldn't know a good QB if one fell into their laps and deserves to have their Man Card taken away.

The only reason he isn't wearing multiple Super Bowl rings is because he hasn't had a very good team around him. People like to point to his record in December and January but the fact is that breakdowns in the aging and ineffective offensive line have left him running for his life in December and January. Hopefully that changes with the youth movement currently underway. If they can limit the mistakes that young guys typically make, Romo, Austin, Witten, Bryant and Jones are going to make a lot of defenses look pretty silly.

Wasn't Vince Young the AP rookie of the year & a two time pro bowler?

So the Titans bad mouthed him. They are the same team who locked out Steve McNair & keep toying with Chris Johnson.

Bud Adams gives everyone the finger.

Vince Young isn't a bad player.

He sounds like Jimmy Clausen, so what’s ur point?
==================================
I wouldn't give up on Clausen yet. Obviously he had a rough rookie season, but he was playing on the worst team in the NFL. Most QB's take a couple years before they can play at the NFL level. I'm pretty sure Clausen doesn't run a 4.4 forty either.

It measures whether you’re good at taking standardized tests, which hardly correlates to intelligence.

I agree with this to a point. Some intelligent/ talented people can't take tests well (especially timed ones) but are great at their jobs for sure. However, there are also some higher scorers at the Combine who I believe have been prepped for the test and/or take it more than once and get to take the highest score from all their attempts.

I also believe that there are different types of intelligence. One poster mentioned it about Marino, not really smart "book wise" but had that vision/arm/release. So he had a sort of "visual/spatial" intelligence.

When I watched Gruden with Pryor and Gruden with Newton, the impression I got was that Pryor was more football intelligent. Maybe that's fair, maybe not.

The bottom line is that most good drafting teams view the Wonderlic as part of the whole but game tape, and their own face to face time with the player are probably the most important.

"The fact that Dan Marino scored a 15 is the argument ender. Either you can play or you can’t." That's 50% higher than a 10. Twice+ as high as a 7.
