Seahawks may bench first round pick Carpenter

We’ve had a hard time evaluating the Seahawks quarterbacks this month because Seattle’s offensive line has looked so poor.

Perhaps the biggest weak spot in pass protection is at right tackle, where first round pick James Carpenter has struggled. (Nick Saban is not surprised.)

The Seahawks inserted Carpenter as a starter immediately, but they are having second thoughts. Breno Giacomini played with the starters at times during the team’s third preseason game and is splitting snaps with Carpenter in practice.

Carroll said via Seahawks.com that the team is trying to figure out if Carpenter can be ready to start the opener. New offensive line coach Tom Cable blamed much of the team’s problems on communication.

That’s what happens when almost the entire offensive line is new and the scheme is different. This is year two of the Pete Carroll era, but on offense it’s like Seattle is starting from scratch again.
