Bengals sign Kyle Cook to extension

Kyle Cook AP

The notoriously cheap Cincinnati Bengals have taken a crowbar to Mike Brown’s wallet, signing three veteran players to contract extensions in recent days.

It started with left tackle Andrew Whitworth, it continued with cornerback Leon Hall, and it has most recently worked to the benefit of center Kyle Cook.

The Bengals announced the move today.

Cook has started every game for the Bengals in 2009 and 2010.  He is now signed through 2015.

I love this move. Let’s keep our core intact. Now just Extend Benson (when he gets out of the pokey).

    Nothing like rewarding mediocrity!!!

Don’t pay Carson or Jonathan Joseph…but pay Whitworth, Hall & Cook.

This must be what it’s like to be a Red Sox/Yankees fan with your team competing against the my hapless Oriole’s organization!!!

    …………………………………………………………..

    LOL @ you.
Carson got paid handsomely and then some. Joseph would have been paid as well as Cincy had a trough of money awaiting him.
    Shows what you know.

So how’s it going there in Balt being the whipping boy of the leagues worst team year in year out?

Carson’s a quitter, and Joseph has a groin pull again!

    They paid the right guys.

No way that your fellow Baltimoreans ever cry as long or as hard as the whiners up in New England.

JJo’s got to learn to stop pulling his groin, he could go blind…

  7. voyager6 says: Sep 2, 2011 6:22 PM

That should about do it for the $29million in cap space that was reported left last week, leaving the Carson insurance in place.

  8. rgwhodey says: Sep 2, 2011 6:35 PM

I’m pretty sure Carson was the highest paid qb in the league and supposedly jjo was matched what the Texans gave him so its not about money… And they are paying the right people starts with the core..

  9. mswravens says: Sep 2, 2011 6:37 PM

    @bozosforall – LOL!!!

@TurdSandwich – How much is Carson being paid this year??? Was Joseph paid by the Bengals??? No. You keep going with your woulda, shoulda, coulda logic all the way to another last place finish. It’s your kind of thinking that keeps the Bengals losing & Mike Brown smiling.

But I’d love to know who you’re referring to as the league’s worst place team that keeps whipping us? Before you answer, go check out the Ravens record v. teams with a losing record…since you don’t think I know anything, you might want to check yourself before talking out your rear-end. Look dude, one of my lifelong best friends is born & bred Cincy boy & Bengals fan…nothing would make me happier than to have a rivalry with you guys…but you have to get your mind out of the mindset that rewards mediocrity. If you want to defend it, then you deserve Mike Brown & your place on the list of worst franchises in all of sports. And before you buy that Andy Dalton jersey, go check out the success (or lack thereof) of 2nd round QBs in the NFL over the past 15 years. Sorry bro, but facts don’t lie….nice try though…

Given your name, I have to ask, is that a big Bengals burger you’re biting into???

    @ ‘mswraven’

    ‘Don’t pay Carson’……..

are you kiddin’ me. At one point there, the Bengals made Palmer the best paid guy in the league.

I think you should stick to basenall sites…….

  11. mswravens says: Sep 2, 2011 7:32 PM

@londonbengal – Nope. Not kidding you. Why do you think Carson quit your sorry team? It must be Mike Brown’s committment to winning, huh?

Actually, I should be on Mike Brown’s payroll….I don’t know if he’s had this many Bengal fans defend the organization in a long, long time. Then again, with fans like you guys, it’s no wonder a franchise that loses as much as the Bengals can turn a profit!!!

I’ll tell you what…I’ll stick to baseball sites when you Bengals fans form a support group to break you of your losers’ mentality. Come to think about it, I’ll just stick to posts regarding teams that matter….and you enjoy another season in the basement.!!! C ya…!!!

@mswravens – The Bengals have won 8 of the last 12 meetings with the Ravens. Also Whitworth is better than the Ravens’ LT (if they an ever figure that out), Cook is better than Birk with a scoped knee, and Hall is better than any corner on the Ravens’ roster.

Yeah, money is going to the right people.

A good move by Cinci to keep this guy. He’s a solid center.

  14. whodeykid says: Sep 2, 2011 10:44 PM

@mswravens – Carson was due 11.5 million this year. That is definitely “getting paid”. Also, Cincy is 8-4 in it’s last 12 against Baltimore, with 1 of those Cincy losses coming with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm so that was a gimme. For as little success as the Bengals have had against the rest of the league, they’ve been phenomenal against Baltimore the past few seasons. Hell, if it wasn’t for Cleveland the Ravens would probably have a division winning percentage of about 25.

    @ ‘mswravens’

We Bengal fans know what we are and who we are. We know were the 122nd best sports franchise out of 122. We know what we are, we hear it everyday from jerks like you. I guarentee a vast majority of Bengal fans would sack Mike Brown in a heartbeat if we could, but we can’t, so we suck it up and keep following our team in spite of Mike Brown.

Trouble is, many fans like you have forgotten who you are. Don’t forget, you were a gnats c*ck in 1996 from having the ‘Baltimore Bengals’ as your team, with Mike Brown as your GM. Suck on that for a moment or two.

We might be the worst team in the NFL, but we sure have owned your a$$ 8-4 over the last 6 years, so what does that make your team ? We might be a lousy team, but it makes beating the Ravens all the sweeter.
