NFL suspends Ravens’ David Reed for one game

Quincy Butler, David Reed AP

Late last season, Ravens return man David Reed had a lot going on: He was named special teams player of the week just days after he was busted for having marijuana in his house.

Now Reed will have nothing at all going on during the first week of this season: The NFL has suspended him without pay for the season opener against the Steelers.

Reed, who will also be fined an additional game check for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy, will begin his suspension tomorrow and have to be away from the team until after the Steelers game.

    Man I wish I had no life and tried to bash a team that would kill his team any day of the week

    Goodell forgot the Ravens are playing the Steelers. He will let him play and suspend him vs the bengals!

    Jamal didn’t get into trouble because of weed. He was put in jail for helping facilitate a cocaine deal. Uninformed fake fans are annoying.

    when is goodell going to suspend hines ward for his DUI?

    of course, he won’t, because the league always lets them off with anything

    That explains why he had bricks for hands in the last preseason game.

    I’m just purely speculating right now, but I bet anyone who was busted during the lockout is getting a pass to avoid a challenge by the NFLPA on grounds that the NFL has no authority over players during that period. At least, that seems to be what is happening, given the lack of punishment for Talib, Britt & Ward.

    hopefully Ricky Williams will be a good influence on the kid and the decisions he has to make

    Doesn’t matter, so long as Lee Evans is healthy by 9-11 I am good.

    Until you are out of the NFL….Lay off the weed Reed.

    Really, the guy just comes back plays two preseason games and is penciled in as #3 receiver and maybe a return man. Once again pittsburgh’s reach is far! Their receiver get’s dui and he’s playing.

    Legalize it.

    @freerayray52 …

    I don’t think Reed should have been suspended because marijuana should be legal and isn’t any business of Roger Goodell’s.

    But as to your question about Hines, his case hasn’t concluded. However, Colts DT Fili Moala was arrested for DUI last season and played the entire season. He was found guilty in August and has not been suspended. I know Goodell enjoys playing God and having sole discretion to suspend whomever he wishes. But if he suspends Hines Ward on a first-offense DUI when he hasn’t suspended other players for the exact same offense, he’ll finally leave himself open to a long overdue lawsuit. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

    @jamaltimore …

    “Pittsburgh’s reach is far.” You are such an nimwit. Yeah, Pittsburgh really cares if your return guy is playing now that the league has virtually nullified the kickoff :roll: So you’re not bothered about all the other guys arrested for DUI who haven’t been suspended … only Hines Ward? Figures.

    Ward hasn’t had his day in court.
    Wait and see if he’s found guilty before you start whining.

    What am I saying?
    I’m talking to a Ravens fan….

    In that case, here, let me give you a hand for your week one hissyfit:
    “The damn refs (fill in the blank)”

    Yeah Big Ben losing one quarter of last season dispite not being formally charged with a crime supports your claim.

    Go cry somewhere else.
