Vick says, “You can’t design a defense to stop me”

Reuters

Mike Vick apparently plans to earn every penny of his latest $100 million* contract.

Despite late-season evidence of regression and/or defenses figuring out Mike Vick 2.0 in 2010, Vick remains supremely confident in his abilities.

I’ve been hearing that for years,” Vick recently told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.  “You can’t design a defense to stop me, especially not on this team.  We have so many weapons, and some teams have tried to make that their primary focus.  That’s when we run up the score.”

Coach Andy Reid agrees, explaining that Vick has worked on his struggles last year against the blitz.

“Now he’s got it,” Reid said.  “People can say there’s a way to stop Michael Vick, but this is a team sport.  You’ve got this beautiful mind of [offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s] and you’ve got to deal with what he’s gonna throw at you, and there are all these other players you have to defend.  You can say you’re gonna stop Michael Vick, but you’ve got to stop the whole group.”

(Lions fans have passed out from laughter regarding the use of “beautiful mind” in reference to Mornhinweg.)

Of course, stopping the whole group becomes a little easier given the struggles of the five men responsible for opening holes and buying time for Vick.  And so instead of talking big, Vick, Reid, and company would be better served finding a way to dial back those sky-high expectations while they focus on getting the job done, once and for all, in 2011.

  1. Did I miss them winning the SB last year? Or did someone manage to, you knwow, “stop” Vick and the Eagles?

I know, I know. This year they have even more weapons and truly will be unstoppable. They sure looked that way when their starters were against the Steelers starters. Unstoppable I tell you!

  2. Yeah Vick, I guess when you and your 1st team played the Steelers first team you pretty much marched up and down the field at will. Or maybe you just believing the hype about your “dream team”!

  3. I seem to recall a team with a porous secondary that ended up 6-11 stopping him QUITE well near the end of the season…

So, he’s learned soooooo much in just a few months?

    Interesting quote…..

  4. Gosh darnit mike and Andy are going all plaxico on us. Lol

Seriously don’t talk like this guys green bay did a good job in the wild card and so did the Vikings smh let’s hope they hbe a better plan than they did in preseason because as “unstoppable” as you are of there is no o line to protect you we will lose more than we all expect. I love me some eagles but really be quiet and do it kb the field

  5. Good to see the new humble Mike Vick. Maybe what he should have said is the only thing that will stop him is getting killed behind that awful offensive line. Shut up and play football please!

  6. You’ll never hear Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, etc. saying “You can’t design a defense to stop me.”

It is okay to be confident, but you don’t need to tell it to the world.

Vick still needs to better himself in this area and let his play do the talking.

  7. A sociopath & “father of the year” sure have a lot to say when both have been career under achievers in the post season. And Mornhinweg is a “beautiful mind”. If nothing else, the talk coming from the Eagles is certainly amusing.

You are gonna have a fun year Eagle fans.

Cue the “you are all are haters” dribble.

BTW, you also might as well start the “wait until next year” babble as well, you’re all gonna need it.

  8. Sure it’s pretty easy. Contain you in the pocket and force you to throw the ball. Every once in a while disguise a blitz that makes you get all jumpy.

  9. Uh-oh…you Iggles might wanna dial that rhetoric down a notch because somewhere you’ve got some defensive players beginning to salivate…

  10. If a defense can’t be designed to stop him, how come he always loses to the Bears? I think the key to beating Vick is just to have an athletic MLB spy him. A scheme can be set up to stop him but whether or not the players are able to capitalize on their opportunities to stop Vick in that scheme is another.

  11. good thing there’s a link to the article. Nice job though of re-arranging a few quotes. I would have never been able to read through the slanted message that is portrayed here.

  12. Nothing wrong with a little swagger but 3 picks in one half aganist the Steelers? Yep I coulndn’t agree more there Mike.

  13. I can’t think of a better way to jinx yourself than to tell everyone how great you are….this goes for the whole team.

  14. “America’s Most Hated Team”……sounds like the anti Dallas (America’s Team) so, taking that rivalry into consideration, probably. If people are hatin then you must be doing something right.

  15. I guess we ought to clear their schedule then. No need to play the games. This is even worse than the “dream team” statement. “Can’t design a defense to stop me”…..am sure that’s going to keep defensive coordinators even more juice to dial up the blitzes.

  16. Clay Matthews and Tramon Williams came up with a couple of ideas.

Too bad you can’t throw the ball with your mouth.

  17. remember what happened that game with the skins michael when you got to the endzone and D’angelo Hall and Laron Landry hit you so hard and you held your chest so tight, it look like your chest caved in…prepare for that again because it can and probably will happen again..Hail Skins!

  18. Let’s see, There’s The Packers who stopped Vick… twice!

    The Bears stopped Vick.

The Vikings (who were playing a WR at QB) shut down vick….

  19. This is why he has never won a championship.

He gets stopped year after year after year and still thinks he’s unstoppable.

The leaders who win and make everyone around them better are the guys who say, “I am working harder than ever and I need to keep working harder.”

    There’s no cure for stupid.

  20. Good to have that kind of mentality going into a season, but you’ve gotta keep that stuff to yourself.

  21. Must be something about the division. The Cowboys are always paper champions also before any real games are played.

  22. “You can say you’re gonna stop Michael Vick, but you’ve got to stop the whole group.” Andy Reid, Super Genius.

  23. Big mouth, bigger ego, and no justification for either.
I seem to remember the Packers, Giants, Titans, and even the Redskins D stopping Bad Newz LAST year. His weaknesses are glaringly obvious.
    Dump this bum, soonest!

  24. It almost sounds like Vick, Reid and the rest went to a ‘How to Inflate Expectations’ seminar by old Rexy and Mike Williams.

My only suggestion to all involved is: More footwork, less mouth work gentlemen.

  25. “beautiful mind” = Winning the coin toss in Overtime and choosing to kick.

Oh yea, the wind REALLY stopped the bears from the winning field goal.

Let’s not forget the astronomical numbers Joey Ballgame and all his “receivers” put up.

    SMH

  26. That is not “confidence”. That is “arrogance” just like that “dream team” and “gold standard” nonsense. It’s a bunch of BS for a guy that has never thrown more than 21 TDs or 3100 yards in a season.

  27. Don Capers stopped Vick? Are you serious? Week 1 he ran n threw all over the Packers. Then in the playoffs he threw over 280 n td. The pick at the end of the game would of never happened if Akers made the chip.shot field goal earlier in the game. Thats why Akers isn’t on the team and got replaced by a rookie…

  28. Last year was a huge anomaly for Vick (who started really strong but faded big time down the stretch). The past shows us, dramatically, that he certainly can be stopped (and yes, I’m being very nice here).

Do it for a number of years straight, THEN we can talk about how great you are!

  29. I hate Vick as much as the next guy but is there any way he didn’t mean it exactly how it sounds and instead he meant you can’t (shouldn’t) design a D to stop him because the rest of the team is too good and will kill you if you don’t focus on them, where in the past he still would have tried to do it all himself. I know Vick has 0 benefit of the doubt built up but that’s how I took it.

  30. This is bad we are now seeing Vick revert back to the “I’m untouchable” attitude that has plagued him his entire crime-filled life.

  31. The point, u small minded idiots is that u can’t stop Vick. It’s eleven people out there. So if they stop the offense, it could be the horrible line protection, predictable play-calling. Any number of things. When drew brees threw 22 int’s last year why didn’t anyone say “oh they figured out brees.” the reason is people hate Vick and want to put him down. All of u can just go to h$@l.

  32. Vick reminds me of his cousin Aaron Brooks, who would go out and throw a couple picks and fumble a couples times and then talk about how great he was.

It’s all false bravado. Deep down inside Vick is a very insecure person. Even at his best it’s only a matter of time before the wheels fall off.

  33. With Eli and his turnovers to help the Eagles along, the Giants will once again stumble their way through two losses to the Birds this year. Count on it! The only mystery is which of his players Coughlin will end up screaming at this year.

  34. (Lions fans have passed out from laughter regarding the use of “beautiful mind” in reference to Mornhinweg.)
    _____________

Yes, yes I did. Just got done getting off the floor from it in fact.

  35. I think both Reid and Vick caught some of that Vince Young disease…Where stupid words just come out of your mouth. As an Eagles fan….Just shut the hell up! Oh, and the Mornhinwig beautiful mind thing…..HUH ? What?

  36. Hmm…He gets paid & we’re already seeing the “old” Mike Vick. Or, should I say the “real” Mike Vick…arrogant and talking sh#%. Where did that humility go?? I can’t wait to watch him get CRUSHED behind his crappy offensive line!! :o) Lucky for Vick, the Eagles won’t beat, drown, or shoot him when he gets hurt and can’t play.

  37. Actually the lowly Vikings stopped you last year. Antoine Winfield had your number and smacked you pretty good a couple of times…..

    Interesting quote…..”

Not to belittle your point, but I just want to know what team that didn’t make the playoffs, played 17 games in a 16 game schedule!

    As you said, “interesting quote”

  39. I am a lifelong eagles fan – so when I say this you know where I am coming from.

Eagles players & coaches. Please shut the F up about how great you are. All you are doing is painting an even bigger target on your back. Just go out and play. You have some of the most passionate, loudest and of course most obnoxious fans in the league. Let us talk for you. PLEASE!!!!

also that is pretty big talk with a 6th round rookie center (rookies make all blocking calls on the line) and a rookie guard and shaky tackle.

not to mention deshaun isn’t signed and i can’t really blame a guy making league minimum who doesn’t want to go over the middle until he is financially secure.

let’s get some hardware and then you can talk your faces off all offseason.

  40. Zone-Blitz with on spy begs to differ Mikey… You may want to look back to how teams started defending you once they figured you out.

You’re a sub-par QB with average RB skills. You should definitely keep your trap shut before you piss someone off and to lose an ACL, PCL and MCL in one shot — Daunte Culpepper style.

  41. Ruh-roh.

Someone had better check Vick for a concussion cuz he’s delusional.

Way to draw a target on your back, Vicky. Can’t wait to see you (and your ego) get torn apart.

    HTTR

  42. “All week they said ‘How you gonna stop the great Michael Vick? How you gonna stop him?’…Not one word was said about how somebody’s gonna stop this Defense!”

    – Jon Gruden, 2002, after a resounding victory over Vick and the Falcons…

Tampa 2 with Derrick Brooks on QB Spy the entire game seemed to work pretty well against you Mr. Vick.

  43. This A-hole makes it hard to want to root for. He just put a huge target on his back and I see him lasting about 7 or 8 games before some ticked off DL or LB blows this jerk up and he watches the rest of the season from the sidelines.

  44. i liked humble, “i’ll do anything just for a chance” Michael Vick. This guy is getting delusional.

All you do is play extra safeties in cover two, crowd the intermediate route and bracket his deep threat over the top…..Green Bay figured it out, Chicago probably could as well.

Whenever he runs, he subjects himself to possible injury, then knocking him out of the game…and VY has already taken himself out with the same “running man” act.

  45. mykelane
“Now he’s got it,” Reid insisted. “People can say there’s a way to stop Michael Vick, but this is a team sport. You’ve got this beautiful mind of Marty’s and you’ve got to deal with what he’s gonna throw at you, and there are all these other players you have to defend. You can say you’re gonna stop Michael Vick, but you’ve got to stop the whole group.”

Vick’s response: “I’ve been hearing that for years. You can’t design a defense to stop me, especially not on this team. We have so many weapons, and some teams have tried to make that their primary focus. That’s when we run up the score.”
    ———————————————————————–
That’s directly from the story/link. Mind telling us where PFT “re-arranged some quotes”? OK, they put Reid’s first and Vick second. Doesn’t change the context at all. PFT quoted the story verbatim.

Is it time for the Eagles to send PR guru/spin doctor Vince Young out to say that Vick and Reid were mis-quoted in the story?

  46. Maybe PFT put the emphasis on the wrong word. Instead of:

“You can’t design a defense to stop me”

    it should be:

You can’t design a defense to stop me”

i.e. maybe he meant Michael Silver can’t design a defense to stop. 🙂

  47. Who does he think he is all of a ssudden!?

Last time I checked this guy looks like a dog carcass against a good zone blitz.

  48. poor Andy Reid has to back Vick and anything he says up because publicly reprimanding him days after giving him that big contract would be embarrassing to say the least. but all he is doing is postponing the embarrassment.

  49. I believe the Redskins stopped Vick for a few weeks last year and what was going on between 2001-06 in Atlanta. Seems like D’s had Vick figured out back then too.

  50. The new contract is already going to Vick’s head… watch out Eagles, you can’t fix stupid… you can only hope to contain it.

  51. “You can’t design a defense to stop me, especially not on this team. We have so many weapons, and some teams have tried to make that their primary focus. That’s when we run up the score.”
    —————————————————————-

The next time any Michael Vick fan wonders why he is so disliked, they need only read this quote again.

He makes it too easy to NOT like him.

There is a difference between confidence and arrogance; Mike Vick has as much trouble finding that as he does an open receiver.

You ain’t THAT good, Mikey. Talk like this AFTER you’ve actually accomplished something.

At this point, I would love to see Philly go 7-9 with that “Dream Team” talentand that 5-27 “beautiful mind” OC

  52. Uh the Vikings held you to 25 of 43 with 1 TD and 1 INT & 263 yards on December 28, 2010… With a defensive coordinator calling his 1st game while beating you with a rookie QB playing his 1st game.

  53. Considering it has been a whole decade since he was drafted and people are still saying he has been figured out yet he made get another pro bowl in 2010. So how long does it take to figure out a player?

  54. @gcsuk – the article is talking about the blitz. Reid then discusses stopping vick by blitzing shouldnt be the primary focus due to the team sport aspect of the game.
Vick backs up Reid’s statement by saying design whatever blitz you want, you have to worry about his other teammates. in regards to ‘run up the score’, thats due to 1 vs 1’s and the big plays give up when people blitz. the whole converstation is based on Vick’s inablity to read the blitz last year and his confinence in working on that weakness this year.
IMO the PFT article writer (and site owner) slants every vick article due to personal issues, which is fine, its his website.

  55. Let’s take a look at your QB ratings over the years: 62.7, 81.6, 69.0, 78.1, 73.1, and 75.7. He had a good rating last year when he snuck up on everyone, but then faded down the stretch.

Based on your stats, I’d say there are many defenses that can be designed to stop you, weapons or no weapons.

  56. Wow, Vick’s got some short term memory loss. As people have already pointed out, Dom Capers and Monte Kiffin must be ROTFLOL. Plus, how’s that O-Line holding up for you there, Vicktim?

  57. You idiots do realize that the Eagles come into EVERY pre-season game with maybe 5-10 scripted BASE plays and nothing else. They said BEFORE The steelers game, no gameplan, they were there to test players and get out healthy. Philly will rock it again this year an hopefully get over the hurdle.

  58. “Philly will rock it again this year an hopefully get over the hurdle.”

Rock it again? They went 10-6 and were bounced in the first round.

I know things are brutal for Philadelphia sports fans, but raise your standards for rocking it.

    —————————————————
I think every defense in the NFL can stop Donovan McNabb! How the hell does he even get thrown into the same group as Drew Brees and Peyton Manning (Twice).

  60. Please Vick….I got it right here. Leave the CB’s out in the flats, also have the Def End’s drop back a little, dont blitz let the other DE lineman rush him. Also drop the outside line backs and safetys and then let the middle LB Blitz or Spy. If you do this, Vick run lanes will be covered every place it goes. Also Vick is not very accurate at all so he will be throwing INT’s.

  61. Please Vick, I can design a defense to stop you!! On Madden.

Haha! No but seriously. It’s called blitzing. It’s a type of play not a whole defense. You can’t beat the blitz. You crack under pressure. It’s ok. At least you can run fast.

  62. Hey Mike….the Tampa 2 has been stopping you your whole career….Proven again by the Bears last year….Whatever happened to that “I am not going to cut my hair until I win a Super Bowl” statement? Dude, you are athletically gifted, and becoming a better QB in as you get older. However, the truth is you still arent any better than Boomer Esiason, Vinny Testaverde, or Donovan McNuggets. Good QBs who played on good teams, but never won jack….

  63. @ rmm1984 – I thought the exact same thing. He didn’t say he can’t be stopped. He said you can’t design a defense designed JUST to stop him because Shady, Jackson, and Maclin can all make things happen no matter where they are when the ball makes it into their hands.

  64. What a joke.
    Supreme confidence?
    Why?
Cuz it’s served him so well in all those playoff wins he’s fashioned during his career?
The same putz who told everyone he was MVP of the league late last season….then promptly went out and lost every remaining game.
    What a joke.
How about winning something….anything….before spouting this stuff, Mike?

  65. remember what happened that game with the skins michael when you got to the endzone and D’angelo Hall and Laron Landry hit you so hard and you held your chest so tight, it look like your chest caved in…prepare for that again because it can and probably will happen again..Hail Skins!

    ———————————————-

Remember the first play last year..the one where Landry was picking himself up off the turf after the first play just in time to watch Jackson cross the gaol line backwards? Remember that?

    GO BIRDS!

  66. Soon enough some D will let the air out of this wind bag.

It is going to be so much fun to watch the Dream Team and the unstoppable Vicky get knocked out of a bid for the Super Bowl again.

Then, that will shut a number of pieholes for awhile. The excuses and blame will follow the normal pattern, blah blah blah.

We just need to gently remind them not to forget who they are, the egirls, destinys redheaded stepchild, and start the whole process over. No hardware clown azzes.

Did you just describe some kind of shallow prevent? I think you should stick to fantasy football.

  68. Once again, I’m sure the Packers are thanking Vick and “all of his weapons” for removing the bulls eye from their backs.

Haven’t heard this much talk from a team since the Pats went 18-0 and then lost in the SB. But they had already won 3 SB’s in 4 years, so they could talk the talk & walk the walk.

  69. Umm why can’t they? If I remember correctly I think the last few games of the season they started picking up on your antics.

And ever since they were caught cheating, things have been going downhill for them.

  71. “He didn’t say he can’t be stopped. He said you can’t design a defense designed JUST to stop him.”

Duh. Even Vince Young knows he plays on a team. “Now he’s got it,” Reid said. Now he’s got it? Six years with the Falcons, two years to think about it in the slammer, two more years in Philly. It apparently has taken Vick 10 years to realize that QBs play in an offensive system. Now all he has to do is learn to pocket pass behind that O-line that the geniuses on the coaching and player personnel staffs forgot about while they were slobbering over FAs because they can’t draft and develop.

  72. Week 2. He’ll be lucky to make it past then. Lofton and co. Will knock him back down to earth. Mike vick has not changed infact he’s much worse than he use to be.

  73. “You’ve got this beautiful mind of [offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s] and you’ve got to deal with what he’s gonna throw at you”

I never thought that I would read any sentence with “mind” and “Marty Mornhinweg” that did not also contain the phrase “out of his”. The Dream Team better hope they don’t have any games that go into overtime. We know how Marty Moronwheg handles those situations.

  74. kevsright
The Packers didnt stop Vick. He set records against the skins. And the Giants, well self explanatory. Defense fear Vick. He doesn’t fear any defense. All who are scared to be confident are scared of themselves. Go MV7. They cannot stop us.

    Oh, REALLY??
Who WAS that team on the other side of the LOS on Oct. 24th of last year, then??

Never mind, you’re right. Kolb was benched for Vick after the Titans game..

Never pass up a chance to rag on Bad Newz, tho… 🙄

  76. Is Vick serious that a defense can’t be designed to stop him? Teams have been saying that for years, he’s right. And teams have been doing it for years. THis is the same Vick who decided a few years ago that a terrible team record, but him hitting 20 TD’s was a good season.
A QB who doesn’t udnerstand defenses makes the O Line look bad.
It’s ebver Vicks fault apparently. In Atlanta it was always someone elses fault. They never gave him WR’s…etc etc.

  77. I love the balls-out approach the usually stoic Eagles are taking.

Too many sport teams take this overly sensitive approach, coalescing to the current “flower child” movement.

It is borne in the culture of “everyone gets a medal”, which has been so darn popular the last 10-15 years.

  78. I wish he was playing the Lions again this year. Suh might have something to say about “stopping him”…

  79. Pride goeth before the fall. Vick will win more than his share of games, but the good teams will know how to slow him down enough to beat the Iggles. There will be no Super Bowl for Philly this season.

  80. I do not like the Eagles and I am not a Vick defender, but I believe people are reacting to Vick’s comments instead of listening to what he actually said.

He didn’t say you can’t defend me because I am that good. He said that their offense as so many weapons that concentrating on “stopping Vick” will open up their other weapons to attack.

Surprising that Jets fans are so appalled, shocked, and bewildered that a team’s QB would show confidence before the season starts.

  81. vick has looked very average in preseason. Last year he was playing for a contract. This is different now that he has the contract he wanted. When that happened in atlanta his play dropped off.

  82. (Lions fans have passed out from laughter regarding the use of “beautiful mind” in reference to Mornhinweg.)

Mornhinweg is their master mind????…….Probably had early onset Alzheimer in Detroit. We’ll give a pass to sick man.

    GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  83. Vick 2.0 is quickly sounding more and more like the arrogant pathological liar that he was back in 2007.
Teams already had figured out how to defend him. Blitz from the edges, and assign a spy in the middle. It doesn’t take long for him to fall back to his old habits, which is to try to force something in there as he is going down, and that results in a big gift INT for the opposing team.
I can’t tell you how many times I saw that in the Georgia Dome. He has amazing skills, but still hasn’t learned his lessons.
    Dream team – still dreaming.

  84. Look at all these comments. America is obssesed with the eagles. hahaha I know this comment will get all thumbs down but you guys are on here reading and commenting non the less.

  85. Vikings beat the Eagles worse, and held them to less points, than the Packers did last year.

And they did it all with a rookie QB drafted as a WR in the sixth round.

  86. Wait till Reid benches his ass because he’s not getting it done. Wonder if all the sports press will ask the tough questions then.

What Vick said is keeping in the true form of an egomaniac. It doesn’t help that he got a little finger slap on the wrist for the horrendous evil that lurks in this psychopath’s mind, which is now free under the guise of the “new” Vick. There’s nothing new here; he’s just doing a very good job of fooling everyone right now. He will soon be the laughing stock of the league.

  87. I have never seen a team hated more than the Eagles.out side of us eagles fans, everyone hates us.Patriots cheat yet are loved by all,rex ryan runs his mouth and loved by all.Not the eagles,as a fan i cant wait till we stop making the play=offs every year and be like 3-13 in a year, just so the hatred stops.i cant recall in my 40 plus years as an eagles fan a team that does so much for the charities in the USA.and players that want to come play here because of the players and coaches, but yet Fans across the board hates a team that has never won anything.talk bad about the eagles yet their sports jerseys and hats rank 4th in the league, with vicks ranked as #3..but on all these boards the hatred continues.lol…It only adds fuel to our fire,we actually love all the bad hype you people put out.but remember one thing.we will always be in the play-offs,even in the NFC east…..with all those past super bowl teams, skins, boys, and giants….one day the jinx will be over and we will finally win the big game.probally as the wild card as most teams AKA packers, giants etc do…eagles were 1 play(dropped pass )from eliminating the packers..that close…and leys not forget the 3 missed fieldgoals from one of the games best kickers(akers)..and no people none were blocked..just missed….actually the last 6 nfc superbowl teams went through the eagles to get there..thats pretty impressive.if you ask me..our day will come. but it will never take the haters away..so keep it coming ladies and gentleman..the EAGLES will never go away…..

  88. Everytime Vick speaks, the Republicans come out to rip him. Republicans hate black people. They hate Obama and Vick especially. They can’t stand that Obama is in charge and they act like what Vick did was the most evil thing since Hitler. ESPN was right. If Vick were white, he would have never missed a game, let alone went to jail for a cruel ans unusual sentence for sucj a minor infraction, even if it was an infraction.

  89. RAFLMFAO!

The only thing Vick knows about defense is how to buy one. He has never been able to read a defense, only for the help of the NFL helmet mike/speaker. Hell, I bet this hood rat can’t even spell defense….

  90. pheelingphine says: Sep 2, 2011 7:15 AM

Oh no. Why do they even open their mouths? C’mon Philly, you are feeding the media what they want to hear. Do you want to become America’s Most Hated Team?

    =========================

We already are. Bring it on, rival jerks!

  91. The best confidence is always expressed in actions, not words. Saying that other teams can’t prepare for a team that is, like all other teams, still scrambling to finalize its personnel and game plans of its own, after the missing offseason, is simply dumb.

Vick’s whole career has been a series of exciting plays within a mediocre whole, and there’s no reason to expect that to change as he gets older, which will make his style of play harder to maintain and easier to prepare for over time. Plenty of teams prepared for and handled the Eagles quite well last season, and the season before that.

The Eagles are a good team with a lot of talent. But they will learn, as their division-mates Dallas has learned, that a sense of entitlement will get you nowhere.

If Vick were white, he would have never missed a game, let alone went to jail for a cruel ans unusual sentence for sucj a minor infraction, even if it was an infraction.

Kind of a dumb comment, really. Vick got 2 years on a federal racketeering charge, and did no time at all for the dog violence, because his own state chose not to prosecute him on it, sweeping it under the table in a wink-wink moment if every there was one. And it’s not a stretch to say that based on who made that decision and where they were made, part of the motive was racial.

So where’s the “cruel and unusual” part, exactly?

I think that if Vick was white, he’d be out of the league with no way back at this point. Sympathy from his own community for horrible violence against dogs, plus purely athletic valuation of the man by his white bosses, is what paved his way back in. He would not have either of those things if he was white.

  94. I don’t think anyone figured Vick out last year or how to beat him.. Teams exploited an injured makeshift o-line. I suppose he could have thrown them under the the bus like Peyton Manning did but he didn’t. Fact is put him behind a solid line and I don’t see a team that can stop him with all his weapons.. But.. His line is still questionable at best so.. go ahead and blitz and tell yourselves you’ve found the formula.

  95. “The pick at the end of the game would of never happened if Akers made the chip.shot field goal earlier in the game. Thats why Akers isn’t on the team and got replaced by a rookie…”

    Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

“Don Capers stopped Vick? Are you serious? Week 1 he ran n threw all over the Packers. Then in the playoffs he threw over 280 n td. The pick at the end of the game would of never happened if Akers made the chip.shot field goal earlier in the game. Thats why Akers isn’t on the team and got replaced by a rookie…”

IF James Jones doesn’t drop that wide open td, then it wouldn’t matter how many Field goals Akers missed/or didn’t.

  97. I wouldnt say Don Capers stopped him….Vick made a horrible throw the LAST drive of the game and threw a redzone pick. GB was getting handled by the vickster throughout the game though.

  98. If anyone is really interested in reading the real article it is on Yahoo Sports. I can’t believe how they allow this man Mike Fioro to continue to pick out certain words take them completely out of context and then start his hate rant on Vick. I believe If Vick said “its a beautiful day” This hack would say something stupid like he can’t say it is a beautiful day it may not be a beautiful day to the people in Guam. This is how sick he is and filled with hate toward one human being. But it is okay it is heating him up inside he will see that one day before it is too late. I thought it gave his teammates a boost of confidence when he made the statement if you just game plan for me. You are in trouble I will get it to my teammates and if you don’t think they have his back you are a fool. Unlike McNabb Vick does not throw his teammates under the bus. He even took up for the rookies when they talked about them. Who doesn’t want to play with a teammate like that. So Mike keep hating you are the only one killing themselves well you and a few others that fill like you can treat humans any kind of way as long as you love a dog. Well you are in a real rude awakening come judement day. Hate kills and it is eternal damnation. Good luck with that. Go Mr. Vick the way to stand up for your team. Rob Ryan and Rex Ryan can trash people but Vick can’t stand up for the team he plays for unbelievable!

  99. 100mil contract..try 80mil..and ahahahaha too funny
what exactly did he do or the eagles do in the first half of the steeler/eagle preseason game?ummm NOTHING?

Vick don’t be sticking your nose to high in the air you might just take a few sacks…

  100. “kspl1 says: Sep 2, 2011 8:13 AM

All of u can just go to h$@l.”

That’s because Brees knows how to play QB, he isn’t just a guy with a low 40 time and great moves who can kinda, sorta throw a football.

Vick is the least dangerous Eagle on the field. You can absolutely stop him, and it’s easy to do. Vick couldn’t read a defense if he was spotted half the play and talked through the other. Keep him in the pocket, with an athletic spy. His O-line is bad enough that 4 rushers should provide enough pressure to make him think quick, which is not his forte. Zone blitz to confuse the looks and line calls, and you have the makings of a flat Vick. Yes, the Eagle playmakers will get their licks in, but you can absolutely gameplan to stop Vick, and as a result, stop the Eagles.

  101. While it is true that he had less weapons to work with in Atlanta, it seemed that 3 teams always found a way to control Vick: Tampa Bay (when Kiffin was the DC), Philly (when Jim Johnson was the DC) and Baltimore…..Not that he didn’t sometimes beat these teams, but they always made it difficult for him, and Mike Vick doesn’t like “difficult”……

  102. yeah, he has changed………………….not, same dirtbag dog he always was, the only difference is he is a dirtbag dog killer worth $100 million………..so the Eagles sold their soul for a Super Bowl…………..nice.

  103. “You can’t design a defense to stop me, especially not on this team. We have so many weapons, and some teams have tried to make that their primary focus. That’s when we run up the score.”

Really Vick thats why you have no rings and a early exit last year in the playoffs. Whats your excuse there the Eagles had a 2 to 1 turn over ratio. Good teams have figured it out, good teams I emphasize, many teams have figured it out not all can implement it. Look at Brady many say is the best QB next to Manning if not the best but if you pressure Brady he collapses. Lets face it Vick since you became a “pocket passer” you suck at pressure. Yes it was preseason but the Steelers with their pressure caused you to throw 3 ints. You have great weapons this year what you do not have is a great o-line. If I were you Id spend some of that extra money insuring your legs, arms or what ever will break next on you that seems to happen every season.

  104. svcfilmguy says: Sep 2, 2011 9:16 AM

“Philly will rock it again this year an hopefully get over the hurdle.”

Rock it again? They went 10-6 and were bounced in the first round.

I know things are brutal for Philadelphia sports fans, but raise your standards for rocking it.

    ————————–

And lost to the Superbowl Champs, who had to squeak by them with four points, thanking the Lord for David Akers’ two missed field goals.

Those Champs then went on to embarrass the 1st seed Falcons and Steelers.

  105. “And lost to the Superbowl Champs, who had to squeak by them with four points, thanking the Lord for David Akers’ two missed field goals.”

If Jones catches that wide open TD, then Akers isn’t a factor anyways. Woulda, shoulda, coulda happens in every game, great players find a way to win. And last years playoff loss happened as it always does with Vick. He never has & never will perform in the playoffs. And thats why Vick is not a great player.

  106. yeah, he has changed………………….not, same dirtbag dog he always was, the only difference is he is a dirtbag dog killer worth $100 million………..so the Eagles sold their soul for a Super Bowl…………..nice.

    ————————————————–

$100 mill? might wanna double check bro..Eagles sold their soul? How so?cause they paid their main star QB millions just like the colts and pats and every othe damn team in the NFL does..STFU stupid…

  107. “I wouldnt say Don Capers stopped him….Vick made a horrible throw the LAST drive of the game and threw a redzone pick. GB was getting handled by the vickster throughout the game though.”

Completing only 20 of 36 passes with only 1 touchdown isn’t exactly dominating.

  108. There’s no defense designed to stop him? He might want to sit down and have a cup of coffee with Dick Lebeau and explain that one to him. Just two weeks ago in the preseason game against the Steelers:

    Vick 5/12 47 yds 0 tds 3 ints and 3yds rushing.

… and like this team hasn’t already said enough dumb stuff to have the other teams’ adrenaline flowing.

  109. You can’t design a defense to stop you? Huh? Stop you from what, electrocuting defenseless animals? Seriously, All opposing defenses have done since you came into the league is prevent you from winning a Super Bowl. You have as many Super Bowl rings as I do. In fact, you’ve never even won a Conference Championship either. Nope, not even a single trip to the big dance.

By the looks of it, Michael, I’d say that defenses have shown that you are indeed entirely stoppable.

All systems normal, the Eagle fans are still touting their regular season wins.

Everyone knows how regular season wins mean as much to the city of Philadelphia as Super Bowl wins mean to the rest of the country.

They are going to start selling shirts & hats in Philly memorializing their regular season wins. While the rest of the NFL’s fans will celebrate championships, Philadelphia’s fans will continue to celebrate regular season wins.

Regular season wins are championships in Eagle land.

  112. For those whiny people saying it was out of context that the team has too many weapons etc.

Shutting down Vick means those other weapons don’t get the ball. In effect shutting down Vick shuts down the offense because he’s the QB.

It’s different if Vick’s a stud WR – shut him down and there’s other WR’s to get open/the ball and score.

But he isn’t. He’s the head of the snake so to speak so yeah – shutting down Vick means the other dream teamers can’t get the ball which means they’re not going anywhere.

  113. Well well well -appears the real Mikey is back in bidness. All fat and flush with cash and bravado so he can drop the humility and get back to his comfy old arrogant self. Only a matter of time before he gets his posse back together and restarting their gangsta life. Can’t wait until karma gets back in touch with this sociopath because you’ve got a lot to atone for!!! I just hope they keep replaying the moment his legs snap like pretzels – over and over and over again – ultra slow motion!!! Gonna be a glorious day!

The point being, you dimwits, is that you can’t stop Vick. There are eleven players out there. So, if they are able to stop the offense the reasoning may be due to horrible line protection, predictable play-calling , or any number of other things.

[[So logically they would be stopping Vick..?? And when you said Vick did you mean the Eagles? Why else would you mention the 11 other players.]]

When Drew Brees threw 22 int’s last year did anyone claim, “Oh look they’ve finally figured out Brees!”. Nope, the reasoning for this article and many like it is due to people detesting Vick and aspiring to constantly put him down.

With that being said, all of you can go to h$@l.

    You’re right.

Why would any football fan be excited about a game that will go into the history books as the only walk-off punt return in the history of the NFL?

Oh, right, because it didn’t happen during the Superbowl, it doesn’t count.

Man, what must it be like as a Cowboys fan, having to hate every single regular season game because it’s not the Superbowl.

When Tony Romo throws for a regular season TD, it must be really tough to sit there quietly, not cheering, because it’s not a Super Bowl TD.

Oh wait, you cheer for your team in the regular season? You’re just an idiot hypocrite with nothing to say but “Durf durf Superbowls” as if your current team is even close to sniffing one?

    Thought so.

  116. This quote was completely taken out of context. I’m sure it’s a partial quote from a question he once asked his lawyers: “You can’t design a defense that can stop me from going to prison?”

Such anger from such perennial losers.

A few things other NFL teams can count on:

Eagle fans will always bring up regular season wins but very few playoff wins. Why is that?

Eagle fans will always try to make light of others championships since they have ZERO Lombardi’s themselves.

No teams fans in the NFL hold their regular season wins so near & dear.

Eagle fans will always act like they are right on the brink of that championship, then say “wait until nest year” in January & February.

But do Eagle fans know what the word hypocrite even means? Let me help ya out there Skippy:
    Definition of HYPOCRITE
1: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.

The statement that regular season wins are championships in Philly have nothing to do with being a hypocrite Chucky. But you just keep being angry about your empty championship trophy case & call others things that are totally out of context.

Maybe getting yourself a couple of those regular season wins hats & shirts that are mandatory bragging gear in Eagleland along with a cheesesteak might make ya feel better. BTW, don’t forget a dictionary while you’re at it.
