Brandon Underwood among early Packers cuts

Multiple off-field distractions did not get defensive back Brandon Underwood booted from the Packers, but his play ultimately cost him this month.

Underwood was trying to convert to safety and was slowed by a knee injury. He’s one of the early Packers cuts, according to reports from Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Here are the cuts so far in Green Bay: FB Jon Hoese, WR Kerry Taylor, G Caleb Schlauderaff, CB Brandian Ross, WR Diondre Borel, G Sampson Genus, S Anthony Bratton and WR Chastin West.

WR West will be on someone’s team. He was good, but not enough for a team stacked at WR and TE…

Not many surprises there, but West and Borel should make at least a practice squad somewhere else and Kerry Taylor ain’t bad either.

Vikings are (as always) salivating over our garbage heap. Some good WRs we’ll have to release. The Bares should be all over them too.

Agree. West looks to be a great asset for a team in need of a WR. He’ll surely be picked up

That’s an old pic. Currently #33 is Brandon Saine. Brandon Underwood is #28, err, was. 🙂

it’s tough hopefully if west doesn’t end up on someone’s team they can keep him on the practice squad. but i believe he’ll be picked up, hard working kid and is a burner with solid hands. good luck west.

Can’t say I am dissappointed to see him go.

also good to see they let underwood go, let him go to the bengals.

I posted these cuts down below on another thread (probably to the annoyance of Cowboy fans but there are no open threads) –

Packer’s are just loaded this year at WR and TE as boover3 points out. For those paying attention in their 1st exhibition game the Packer’s had 17 different guys catch the ball!

I’m rooting for Gurley to make the team and those rookie TE’s Ryan Taylor and D.J. Williams both look like they’re going to be good. The rich got richer… which from my perspective is good!

    Gurley: cut.

  11. scudbot says: Sep 3, 2011 1:20 PM

Thumbs downed my own post. Gurley is a special teams beast.

  12. karlpk says: Sep 3, 2011 1:24 PM

Why thumbs down for scudbot reporting Gurley cut? – wish he wasn’t but accurate reports deserve thumbs up!

  13. scudbot says: Sep 3, 2011 1:31 PM

    18 more to go.

  14. jazzytrav says: Sep 3, 2011 1:38 PM

Agreed on Gurley. It would be nice to see him make it through waivers and sign back on the PS. Same with West. Both of those guys have enough talent to play right away somewhere.

  15. mneal69 says: Sep 3, 2011 1:40 PM

Actually according to the MSJ Gurley was cut.

The Packers have so much talent that some of these guys will be on other teams.

They are talented players but just don’t have enough talent to make it on the World Champion Green BayPackers.

Schlauderaff, Borel, and West are practice squad eligible.

The Packers coaching staff has worked wonders with some of the players that are going to make the roster.

hatefulnerd–nice name; it fits with your silly post. Vikes won’t be signing a single Packer reject, no worries there.

    Wow. Harrell got cut.

    I just have one question…..

How does West get cut before Shaky Smithson???

For the record, I am more than willing to put up with all the lame, recycled, childish insults if the Vikes bring in West. The guy really looks like he can play.

For her sake I sort of hope Mrs. Underwood picked this weekend as a good time to go visit her relatives.

    @stavreafavre …

For her sake, hope she calls a divorce lawyer while she’s there.

Yeah? Keep that hope alive and be the only one surprised when the Vikings sign at least one Packer “reject”.
