In 2009, Donnie Avery was emerging as a promising young receiver for the Rams. In 2010, he was lost for the year with a preseason knee injury. And in 2011, he won’t be on the team.

The Rams released Avery as they got down to the 53-man roster limit.

Other players released by the Rams were: DB Tim Atchison, TE Demarco Cosby, LB Zac Diles, DB Tae Evans, DT Marlon Favorite, T Renardo Foster, WR Mardy Gilyard, DT John Henderson, T Kevin Hughes, QB Thaddeus Lewis, WR Greg Mathews, T Ryan McKee, DT Daniel Muir, DB Jonathan Nelson, G Quinn Ojinnaka, TE Fendi Onobun, RB Chase Reynolds, DE George Selvie and RB Keith Toston.

The Rams also placed receiver Mark Clayton on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.

Good luck Donnie. Drafted too highly. Raw receiver with great speed, fair routes, fair hands. Really bad luck with injuries, but this is life in the NFL. Someone should take a chance on Donnie, perhaps the practice squad in NE. Classy guy.

John Henderson should have never been a Ram. That image churns my stomach. Bad project.

suprised by selvie, guy was a first round talent before last season started. never thought JPP would be a first round pick over him.

The real story here is that the Rams cut LB Zac Diles & DE George Selvie. What kind of talent do the Rams have on the Defense if they’re cutting these type of players. Diles was a stud for the Texans last year & I heard a lot of good things about the former DE from USF Selvie. WOw, that’s shocking….But as a NY Giants fan, I wouldn’t dare question Spag’s.

Yeah, since, as offensive coordinator, he has power over personnel moves. Right.

Somebody will pick up Mardy Gilyard. One heck of a return man. C’mon Bengals, pick up the hometown Bearcat.

As a HUGE Avery man, this one hurts. However, his skill set isn’t what is used in a Josh McD’s system and you need system players to succeed. I see him going to Chicago to play under Martz or going to Detriot to play under the HC who drafted him in Linehan. He’s going to definitely catch on elsewhere though.

Not a Rams fan but I checked this post to see what St Louis did today. I see some shockers on O and a general concern about D. I know McDaniels is only the OC but this has a familiar and somewhat horrifying ring to it. If he’s influencing Spags personnel decisions much, abandon ship.

    @ scud

That’s absurd. Avery would’ve been the fifth or sixth receiver on the depth chart even if they kept him. Gilyard never showed anything at this level. The WR corps still isn’t good but the Rams haven’t really lost much.

He’ll end up in Arizona. He went to college with QB1 and he has said that he would love to play with him in the NFL. We’ll see if Kolb has any pull in his new home.
