Woodson got smoked for at least two of the touchdowns. Is he one of those all-pros? He’s three years older now and he couldn’t cover Marques Colston or Lance Moore last time. The Pack had the top-rated secondary then.

WRONG. Brees was let go because he was injured, his contract was up, and they had Phillip Rivers waiting in the wings. Despite his shoulder injury, the Saints stepped up and offered him a big contract right up front. Nick Saban and the Dolphins were all business and expressed concerns about his injury. The Saints simply wanted him more than the Dolphins and Brees went for that. Paid off big time. Best free agent signing ever … in any sport.

I don’t get why people would slag a player for trying to get the most money they can. All of us would do the same. There’s this sense that because they make so much they shouldn’t care about making more. That makes no sense. Not many middle class americans need all the money they have, and always want more if they can get it to further support their family etc. Not many people give it all away and live on what they truly need.

In a free market you are worth what you can get, plain and simple.

I’m pretty sure that was three seasons ago, when the Packers went 6-10. The last two seasons, the packers have had a top 10 defense with three pro-bowlers in the secondary.

Drew Brees and New Orleans were two souls that met and formed a strong co-dependence that led to an unbelievable run to the Super Bowl and lifted the visibility of the city to unprecedented heights. Time has marched forward and both Brees and NOLA are in different frames of mind. Brees has moved his vision beyond the Saints and now references himself to the group of elite quarterbacks as much as he does as a Saint. Brees was not the same QB last year. You can notion up all the reasons this occurred, but facts are facts. Do you pay him for past results or for future performance? Either way, by the end of negotiations between the two sides we shall see whether money/greed or passion and “family” are more decisive in determining the future of Brees and the Saints franchise.

Brees is probably good for another year or two; far apart may mean in contract years and guarantee. I think he is already showing signs of dropping off and he apparently was a real trouble maker during the negotiations. I say franchise him and see if they really want him after this year and next.

I love Drew Brees and I love my Saints but Drew needs to get through this season without giving up the pigskin so many times like he did last year. If he throws 20+ interceptions again he doesn’t deserve an obscene contract like the one Peyton Manning got.

Ummm, this is how contracts ALWAYS go. One side aims higher than they expect or are willing to take, the other side goes lower. After talking for awhile they settle on a number in the middle. It’s called NEGOTIATING. If the player offered a number and the team instantly agreed it would mean that the player didn’t get as much as he could have and the team payed less than they should have paid. This is NO STORY as it happens basically every time a new contract is written for a player. It happens more with the super stars because they have more power (fan support and jersey sales/promo for the team). This happens ALL THE TIME.
