Packers moves to 53-man roster include trades, release of Underwood

The Packers got to 53 not only by cutting a bunch of guys, but also by trading two of them.

As MDS recently pointed out, fullback Quinn Johnson was shipped to the Titans.  The Packers also traded guard Caleb Schlauderaff to the Jets.

The Packers cuts include most notably defensive back Brandon Underwood.  Also gone are receiver Diondre Borel, safety Anthony Bratton, tackle Chris Campbell, tackle/guard Ray Dominguez, nose tackle Chris Donaldson, linebacker Ricky Elmore, center Sampson Genus, cornerback Josh Gordy, receiver Tori Gurley, quarterback Graham Harrell, fullback Jon Hoese, linebacker Cardia Jackson, defensive end Eli Joseph, linebacker Elijah Joseph, safety Anthony Levine, center/guard Nick McDonald, running back Dimitri Nance, cornerback Brandian Ross, nose tackle Jay Ross, running back Brandon Saine, receiver Kerry Taylor, and receiver Chastin West.

Defensive end Lawrence Guy and receiver Shaky Smithson were placed on injured reserve.

  1. I am surprised they put Guy on IR. he must have showed something the one preseason game he played. Just glad they kept So’oto he may prove to be a hell of a find. For some reason I have a feeling that JJ will be traded.

  2. Love to see that they made two trades, gotta get something for the wealth of talent they couldn’t keep.

Biggest disappointments to see cut were Tori Gurley, Josh Gordy and Chastin West. Hopefully all make it to the PS.

Happy as hell to see Jamari Lattimore and MD Jennings make the team and of course Vic So’oto who could be a big time playmaker at OLB.

They kept 5 TEs and 6 OLBs but I bet Brad Jones is cut when Zombo is able to return.

  3. I don’t care what anyone say’s, they had some tough choice’s to make. I trust ted, it took a couple of years but he made me a believer it what he is doing. I hate to see some of that young talent go but where else are they gonna put them. good luck to all of them hope they catch on somewhere. ( P.S. people just be happy we can complain about our teams cuts. and not about a lockout anymore 🙂

Why in the hell would we cut Josh Gordy? Him and Vic So oto have been the 2 best back-ups in camp.

Practice squad. By the way love your username.

  5. Whew!!! Thank Goodness they kept all the guys I was hoping they would keep. Particularly DJ Williams. If they would’ve tried stashing him on the practice squad, he would’ve been scooped up for sure!

  6. A guy with an alias like “souldogdave” shouldn’t be cruising boards to identify anyone else’s handle as “moronic”.

Because Ted Thompson has a million times more knowledge about building an NFL roster then any of us do. Why in the hell would you even question Ted Thompson?
