Sammy Morris among Patriots cuts

Patriots running back Morris celebrates a two point conversion in front of Jets linebacker Harris during their AFC Divisional NFL playoff football game in Foxborough Reuters

Sammy Morris found a second life in New England four years ago at age 30, but it appears his run with the Patriots is over.

Morris’ agent said on Twitter Saturday that the veteran running back was let go. That would appear to indicate that rookies Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen are healthy and ready to start the season.

News of Patriots cuts have slowly leaked out all day. The most surprising name so far has been defensive end Eric Moore, who opened camp with the starting unit.

Other Patriots leg go, per the Boston Globe, Boston Herald and CSNNE.com: DE Markell Carter, DE Aaron Lavarias, WR Tiquan Underwood, DE Alex Silvestro, DL Landon Cohen, special teamer Niko Koutouvides, RB Eric Kettani, and DL Landon Cohen.

I like Sammy but I’m not surprised. Since Faulk will likely start on PUP I hope this cut means that Ridley/Vereen are full strength. Law Firm is the rock @ RB, steady as he goes. The other two have potential to be dynamic.
Eric Moore is a little bit of a surprise.

Landon Cohen was let go twice. Suspicious eh?

No surprise. Kevin Faulk is going on PUP and will be the first player the Pats bring back after week #6 if needed.

Morris was a great teammate and I am sure is on BB’s short list if needed.

Tiquan Underwood was with the Patriots for like a week after being cut from the Jaguars, wow.

Logical move by New England re: Sammy Morris. And while Ridley has shown us something on the field, Vereen has yet to do so.

I liked Sammy Morris when he was with Buffalo. Its too bad the Bills let him go.

Sammy lives nearby in Foxboro, he knows the system and the team and coach staff love him. If they find a spot for him, he’ll be back.
