The Minnesota Vikings have announced the necessary roster moves to reach the 53-player limit.

Four vested veterans were let go: OL Ryan Cook, TE Jeff Dugan, LB Heath Farwell, and DE Stylez G White.

Twenty-two players who are not vested veterans were waived: DE David Akinniyi, RB Tristan Davis, G Byron Isom, CB Devon Torrence, S Ryan Hill, WR Jaymar Johnson, WR Emmanuel Arceneaux, RB Alexander Robinson, FB Ryan D’Imperio, FB Matt Asiata, WR Juaquin Iglesias, WR Stephen Burton, LB Ross Homan, DT Tremaine Johnson, DE Cedric McKinley, CB Tony Carter, G Chris DeGeare, LB David Herron, WR Juaquin Iglesias, RB Caleb King, OL Thomas Welch and CB Cord Parks.

And LB Jasper Brinkley was placed on Injured Reserve.

Said Vikings coach Leslie Frazier in the team’s announcement, “It’s extremely difficult to tell players that we are going in a different direction without them. It’s especially hard when they are veterans that have been quality players and starters for us over the years and have been a big part of our team, on and off the field. They are good people and good players and we wish them the best in the future.”

  1. Too bad about Jaymar Johnson. Been rooting for him for a couple years now. Hope he catches on w/ another team.

  2. Arceneaux is a very good WR. He’s a rookie though, so there is time for him.

So I guess the WR corps is made up of Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin, Michael Jenkins, and….?

  3. Let go of Farwell? I guess he was getting paid alot for a primarily special teams player, but the guys was decent, solid player. suprised about that but he will get picked up in no time. Little suprised about Dugan too. But we got some very solid TE’s in Shank, Rudolph, n Jimmy.

  4. It’s tough to lose players like Heath who have been around for a few years, but I watched all the Vikes preseason games and I was extremely impressed with LB, Larry Dean, #51. He looked very impressive. I really think we upgraded at that position. Now if we can only pick up a decent Safety. How can we go about 10 years without a stud at that position?

  5. Since Cook is gone, go back and get Hicks now. The line has had no flexibility since he was allowed to walk away.

  6. I can’t believe they let Heath Farwell go. He was a great special teams player, always made the tackle or assisted tackle on kickoffs/punts. He has been around for years, to bad he couldn’t finish his career in Minny. Good luck Heath someone will definitely pick you up.

  7. Glad to see Cook go. The only thing he was good for was a 10 yard holding call at the wrong time.

  8. Good luck little uumpa loompas, bad management and bad coaching and bad decisions will keep you in the cellar for quite awhile,to bad that favre thing didnt work out or the mcnabb thing, god what a joke!..poor ap… and the balls on the Packers> Vikings vote really!..sad.

  9. While some of these cuts are surprising, it will be interesting who they bring back and put on the practice squad. I’m hoping DeGeare, Cook, Arceneaux, Jaymar Johnson, Homan and whoever else they want to bring back. There is still hope.

  10. Hey staffordsyear, we had a better season with Favre in 2009 than your team has had in decades. The lions have been perrenial losers for 50 years. Let’s see how it plays out but McNabb was a great one year signing to allow Ponder to develop. Best option for this team right now.

Are you for real? Your team hasn’t won a dam thing. When they do then start talking trash. Have the lions ever won the division? Do that and someone may care what you have to say.

  12. Be nice to the Lions fans. They have 9 playoff appearances and 1 playoff victory in the last 55 years, and are coming off 10 consecutive losing seasons. They have no idea how to handle people predicting them to be successful. They should probably talk to the Cards about how to handle the letdown….

BTW, until Stafford’s year ends without his arm in a sling, you should probably refrain from painting that target on yourself.

  13. Geez so sensitive…I should do that more often j/k, The lions have won something actually, 4 nfl championships in 1935, 1952,1953,1957.Yeah it was a long time ago but thats more than you’ve won…oh and im aware bout the name, this WILL be staffords year though! 5 days and counting….
