Brandon Tate claimed by Bengals

Brandon Tate, Tom Brady AP

Brandon Tate never quite learned how to be a receiver in New England, but he was a solid return guy.

Those skills can now be used in Cincinnati.  Mike Florio reports via a league source that the Bengals have claimed him.

We haven’t heard the corresponding move as of yet, but expect to see a lot of waiver wire transactions in the coming hours.

    Damn great pickup

Nothing says Bengals like a roster spot for a “solid return guy” with little to no other use.

Tate will get alot of work in Cincinnati since the Bengals will be returning alot of kickoffs this season

  4. scudbot says: Sep 4, 2011 1:38 PM

Is he on suicide watch yet?

Good luck to the Bengals, I always have a soft spot for them. They need talent beside AJ to help their rookie QB.

The Beangles finally made a offseason move ?This team is going to be bad this season.

YES pick up one of those return guys now that the kickoff is more or less null and void. Great move Mike.

So he went from Tom Brady to Andy Dalton? Talk about taking your lumps.

Sorry about your career. I was rooting for you too.

Belichick: Hey Marvin, Tell me how my Brandon Tate.

Going from the Pats to the Bengals……not exactly career advancement.

Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse . . .

  14. samoanjungle says: Sep 4, 2011 2:24 PM

Odd move. The Bengals are loaded at WR

Tate is a 76 is madden so that makes him… the 2nd best receiver on the team… and the 7th best player on the Bengals.

And he was CUT by the Pats…

  16. rethinklogic says: Sep 4, 2011 2:34 PM

Getting cut is bad. Getting claimed by the Bengals is worse.

  17. stevincinci says: Sep 4, 2011 2:47 PM

Thank God, we needed a return man beside Bernard Scott. Need him for rb.

It kinda sucks how 5 yards can cost you to lose your job.

He’s just a terrible fit for an option route system. Chad 85 might be as well. . .

I can see him doing things for the Bengals. He wasn’t terrible in NE.

welcome to the bungles where careers come to die!!

  21. j0esixpack says: Sep 4, 2011 3:21 PM

Tate’s worth taking a chance on for a team in need of a returner – and he might even some day be a decent backup WR.

The Pats have both of those needs well covered without him.

  22. achap39 says: Sep 4, 2011 3:53 PM

Have fun with a bad route runner, below-average hands, and a guy who can’t block downfield. Other than that, he’s a great WR!

Wow! Mike Brown the personnel genius? Not only does he stick Ocho-cancer with a top conference opponent, but he nabs their only deep threat for free. Tate will outperform Chad by at least 2-to-one in terms of yards and TDs this year.

….your comments are beyond stupid. The amount of posts you leave on here also leads me to believe you lack any kind of social life. I kind of pity you.

You go out of your way to insult somebody based on a team that they root for on a football blog. I REALLY pity you.

You guys kill me… You act like the Bengals have been in last place for years…

Im pretty sure 2 years ago we SWEPT the AFC North…

Sure MB is not the best guy in football.. And we could use some of those fancy practice tents everyone else has.. but .. A place where careers die? Hardly that would be Oakland :)

    On a separate note:
Lots of ignorance on here. Basing talent on Madden ratings? Really???

Ignorance is bliss! Or so it seems on here.

    I’ll take that bet……

    Seriously, I’ll take it.

Your Patriots hating has rendered you completely stupid. If Belichick thought Tate was ever going to amount to anything as a receiver, he never would have let him go.

    Their only “deep threat”….. really?

Like I said, every successive each post from you gets progressively dumber.

So a guy who can’t run routes gets picked up by a team where the QB can’t hit you if you do run routes. Might work!
