Getty ImagesWhen we passed along word that Aaron Maybin “made” the Jets on Saturday, we noted that it may not be for long. It lasted until Sunday.
The Jets announced Sunday they waived Maybin, defensive tackle Martin Tevaseu and cornerback Isaiah Truant. They also placed rookie quarterback Greg McElroy on injured reserve with a thumb injury.
To replace McElroy, they claimed Kevin O’Connell off waivers from Miami. The team defensive back Andrew Sendejo (DAL), offensive lineman Colin Baxter (SD) and wideout Mardy Gilyard (STL).
Gilyard gives the team another return option. We’ll have to see if another team gives Maybin a chance.

I guess he was the 53rd guy, hope he didnt pop any bottles.
If a huge bust falls off the field, does anyone ever hear from him again?
Serendipity! The Bears need a linebacker.
Now Jets fans will commence saying “he sucks anyway, who cares!”
God they’ve become like Eagles fans to us Giants fans.
And in 1/10th the amount of time it took Eagles fans to get that way SMH.
How many chances does the dude need to figure it out??…Hard to tell between him and Gholston, who is the bigger waste
Good pickup
Somebody losing their job shouldn’t make me smile, but as a bills fan…. =)
Now Maybin can watch the Jets play the Bills twice a year.
Wanted Gilyard in Cincy, but Brandon Tate works.
Guess that means Maybin is pretty much done then…..
Bye-bye Aaron – we hardly knew ye… instead we are picking up the much more talented and well known WR Mardy Gilyard… huh???
Maybins officially a Hasbin.
Maybin HAS to go down as one of the top 10 busts of all time.
0 career sacks !
Colin Baxter NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was my favorite player in the whole world.
Well… that was a fun vacation from reality.
Does anyone really think this safety the jets picked up from Dallas has any future after week one
Kevin Oconnel has now played for the Patriots, dolphins and Jets. Why bother
I guess Maybin refused to wear the fishnets for Rex or share his Pizza Hut discount card…..

Your right they do, but I hope you aren’t suggesting they should get Maybin…They need a LB not a bench warmer…
Maybin= one of the biggest NFL busts. Behind Vernon Gholston of course. Never draft Big Ten Players!!!
I wish they didn’t cut Maybin, he looked pretty good for 2 weeks of system knowledge. Do like the Gilyard pickup though.
I really wish Gilyard all the best. I think he might fight nicely with the Jets as a slot receiver, but he needs to learn how to relax, I think his inability to do so was what really hurt him in St. Louis, making him drop balls and forget his routes. He is a good play and seems like a really nice guy, I wish him the best, but we had to let him go.
Be happy you got Tate in Cincinnati. Gilyard brings nothing to the return game that you don’t already have and even less to the offense. The guy isn’t fast, isn’t quick, isn’t elusive and has no instincts when running with the ball. Every return it’s the same…run right to the defender…go down. On offense, he can’t get open and can’t catch.
As John McKay would say…”other than that, he’s great”.
I’m sick of hearing about the damn Jets. They’ll always be the Patriots’ little brother
Wonder if the Sendejo signing was just to get a little inside info on the Dallas defense this week?
Hannster is right. Gilyard was pressing too much, although I cannot imaging the atmosphere with the Jets will be calmer. I guess this means the Rams must be doing something right if teams are picking up their released receiver. The guy has moves, but he is a little fragile and cannot run out of a tackle. Classy player who never complained.
Remember, guys on the roster Week 1 are guaranteed their entire season salary, so the Sendejo signing is likely to be more talent related than as an information source.
Or is that just vested players who get guaranteed?
:wanders off, hoping Ricardo Silva and Zak Robinson make it through waivers, so they can be signed to the practice squad:
Jets toss out Dustbin, bring home Junkyard.
@ flaggstaffphotos loser: looks like the Jets are also picking up Pats trash
hint: kevin o’connell
Hey dawg- Don’t you hate it when your little brother grows up and kcicks your ass in the playoffs?
How many of these players being talk about is going to make a difference?
@4512
“Little brother” punched “Big brother” in the teeth last year, iirc.
No one loves aaron maybin as much aa aaron maybin. No team will love him more.
Hey I’m a fan of neither team, just saying. One playoff win doesn’t quite put them on the Pats level, I think we all can agree to that
Maybin. More like Hasbin.
Err never was is more fitting.

Lol @ Jet fans. Your inferiority complex is so cute.
yeah sure, wake up. the tide has already shifted.
Pats moving in the wrong direction…
Jets moving in the right direction….
Rex and Mark are 3-2 vs. Pats in just 2 years!!!
Notice a trend? If not you are an idiot.
RexCanCuss, so 3-2 means the Jets are just completely superior now right? Hahaha, you keep on thinking that and I guess I’ll just keep on being the idiot hahaha…. Jets fans crack me up
aaronp2098: Of course I hope they pick up Maybin. I’m sorry Gholston isn’t there still. But at least you still have Roy Williams. Signed, The Packers.
No ifs, ands or Maybins about it…….Aaron sucks!
Jets are a slightly better team than the Patriots based only on recent history. That playoff defeat was staggering to the Pats franchise after a 14-2 record.
What’s funny is how Pats fans believe their team is still SB champions. It’s been 6 years. That is a long time, can you honestly say Brady is ever going to get the Pats to another Super Bowl?
Aw, shoot! Was just thinking today how much I appreciated all the playing time Rex had been giving McElroy this preseason. He’s done okay. IR with a thumb injury … sigh. Well, at least he’s still with the team.
Been 6 years for Pats. Thats a long time. Been over 40 years for Jets. Now thats funny.
@promin1
And the bitter jealousy coming from Giants fans because their team has lost the spotlight to the Jets is starting to get a little old as well.
Maybin looks more like a safety. He’s so scrawny for a LB. No way he can hold the point. If he ever wants another chance, he needs to bulk up a little. He’s probably finished though.
