If a team feels the need to sign five players that other teams have already cut, wouldn’t it suggest that team may have some roster problems?

    I feel ya bro!

    Some notables.

Packers managed to sneak Graham Harrell onto their practice squad. (The Niners should have signed him). He may be Rodgers backup in 2012.

Bills snuck Michael Jasper onto to their practice squad. Hard to sneak a 400 pounder anywhere without getting noticed.

DE Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, (Eagles) will probably be the first player signed off a practice squad after week one.

Lost in grammar lessons.. This has nothing to do with signing 5 players because you have roster problems.
Some times I wonder how some “football fans” find this site.
These are the practice squad signings.

-There’s no “sneaking” guys on to your practice squad. They can be signed at any point in the season by any team who wants to add them to their 53 man roster

Niners got Scott Tolzien, and he looked sharp as he dismantled the Niners secondary last weekend. Im not sold on Harrell, but he looked good, too.

Teams signing practice squad players don’t have roster problems. Think about this for a minute folks. All players on the practice squad were cut by some team!

Practice squads are ways to essentially add eight players to the roster and allow them to get some reps. They provide the signing team with added roster insurance, if you will, throughout the year. The downside is these players can be signed by any other team at any time.

    Could somebody translate this mess?

cball77 says:-”There’s no “sneaking” guys on to your practice squad. They can be signed at any point in the season by any team who wants to add them to their 53 man roster”
    ——————————————————

Actually there is “sneaking”. When you release a player. You run the risk of that player being claimed by another team. Teams cut certain players in the hopes that no other team picks them up. They hope that the player or players clear waivers so that they can “sneak” them unto their practice squad.

Of course everyone knows that a practice squad player can be signed to any team. That’s a given. You still hope as a team that there are certain players that you release that don’t get claimed on waivers. It’s a calculated risk.

The Packers are happy right now. No one picked up Harrell and added him to their 53 man roster. So they were able to get him past that first hurdle. He’s still their property for now. He can also be elevated to the active roster at some point depending on injuries.

Truth is none of the nfl teams rosters right now are set. From 48 to 61. The final 5 roster spots and 8 practice squad spots are subject to change from week to week. Especially from week one to week two because of potential veteran pickups.

  27. time2speakup says: Sep 4, 2011 6:40 PM

Speaking of Practice Squads – when do kids on the Practice Squad, and those 5 o 6 who cannot dress and are inactive for game day get to wear the team uniform?

    ++++++++++++++
    Is his first language “Moronish”?

I honestly don’t know how some of you managed to decipher that mess. I’m an English teacher and I was completely lost.

If a team does manage to “sneak” a player onto the squad, then that team is given a little bit of protection. At that point the team owns the rights of first refusal on that player, and if a team tries to make a claim on that player, then they can block it by promoting that player up to the active roster.

Patriots; 1) punked by Ravens – True 2) punked by Jets – True
    3) no longer relevant – 14-2 makes them no longer relevant? 4) sack Brady enough times just another team…. True, however same can be said for Peyton, Big Ben, Rivers, Rogers, Brees, etc.
