Well first off he probably knows he's not ready yet. but he want to practice with his coaches and teammate. with that suspension, it makes it he only can go to quarterback meeting only. witch is F'ed up. everyone now thinks quarterback have to be great coming out of collage. A lot of the Hall of Fame quarterbacks weren't great till they got older. and learned from their mistakes. Example look at John Elway he didn't get great till like his last 5 years in the NFL. And Pryor is really young. so he has a chance of learning all that stuff early being third string. Myself i think he'll be better the Micheal Vick. Without the dog fighting.

"IMO Goodell bent the rules to allow Pryor to enter the supplemental draft in exchange for a handshake deal that Pryor would accept a similar length suspension as the NCAA imposed. If Pryor wasn’t willing to accept that arrangement, then Goodell would have governed the situation by the book and ruled that Pryor would have to wait for the 2012 draft."

Sorry, but your opinion and argument are weak. Where did you pull the "Pryor to enter the supplemental draft in exchange for a handshake deal" with Goodell from? Whose a$$ did you pull that out of? Handshake? LOL.

If Goodell is so concerned with the NCAA then he should also show the same standard against coaches such as Tresell and Carroll. Tresell covered up and lied about OSU. Carroll rode off into the Sunset with a huge fat paycheck and didn't give a rat's a$$ about what happened to USC after his time there. Reggie Bush, his story and the truth finally came out, shouldn't he be suspended now for his actions in college?

Pryor was not yet in the NFL when he made his foolish mistakes, he wasn't employed by the NFL, wasn't getting money by the NFL, so what rights does Goodell have in suspending him? Goodell only had to make the decision on whether he was going to allow him to enter the Supplemental Draft or not. No more, no less!

Regardless of whether or not Pryor is ready or ever will be , not being able to practice with the team does not help him get ready and docks his paycheck for 5 weeks . I would be pissed if I was him .
This suspension is illegal and the fact guys like Pete Carroll and Jim Tresell have not been sanctioned proves how wrong what they are trying to do to Pryor is .

The Raiders used nexts years 3rd rder and should be able to get a return on their investment ASAP . You can bash the pick all you'd like but the fact is the kid could be a factor in certain situations . He may never be a decent NFL QB but he has enough athletic ability to do be a factor in short yardage or a wildcat package .

I agree odds are slim he ever develops into a starting NFL QB however he is a good enough athlete to contribute on the field in some fashion. Roger Goodell simply mandating Pryor's NCAA suspension carry over to the NFL is not only illegal , it's stupid . Was the kid ever even charged with a crime ? Sometimes the league office is just bizarre and I think there actions fail on this one . Wasn't it just 2 years ago a Raiders assistant was assualted supposedly by the HC and neither the police or the league ever filed charges or any type of punishment ? Didn't Rothlisberger get his suspension down to 4 games after a rape charge ?
Sometimes comments like legalized slavery almost apply . Admittedly that is a bit over the top when you are mainly talking about people making over 1 million dollars a year but , at the very least there is a huge double standard happening in todays NFL .

Why are people asking why the NFL doesn't suspend Pete Carroll??? What exactly would they suspend him for? Pete Carroll left USC in good standing and joined the Seahawks a year before NCAA even started investigating USC. Even now that the USC investigation has concluded, Pete Carroll was not charged with any violations! The NCAA limited the football violations at USC to Reggie Bush and Todd McNair (RB coach). And even the charge against McNair is tenuous. Pete Carroll's tenure at USC might be tarnished by the turmoil that ensured with the NCAA investigation and sanctions, but the NCAA said he did nothing wrong. Its silly that people are calling for the NFL to suspend Carroll, when Carroll is free to return to coaching D1 college football tomorrow if he wants to.

The root of the problem lies in the fact that Pryor should have either been eligible or ineligible, period. If he was eligible for the supplemental draft, then great. If not, then Pryor should have had to sit out until 2012 -- the UFL could have been a home for him in 2011. But to allow him into the NFL and then suspend him for five games was a poor decision and one the league might ultimately find itself regretting.

@lunarpie.

Agree and disagree.

Agree on the point that he needs to "take it easy" with his career... but only from the standpoint of playing in actual games when the game is on the line.

Disagree that it doesn't matter.

Look, the fact of the matter is, if he was eligible to play right now, he wouldn't be anywhere near seeing the field. He has Campbell and Boller ahead of him. No way Hue puts him out there as QB. Maybe, big MAYBE later on in the season on a wildcat play.

The real reason for the appeal (other than precedent setting matters) is to allow him to suit up and PRACTICE with his teammates. He needs as many reps as possible... but more importantly, it's a distinct advantage for the team to see what they have in Pryor ASAP. Do they have a QB, or a receiver?

Bottom line is, the sooner that Pryor is available to Hue and Saunders, the quicker they can make a determination on his skillset... and the quicker Pryor can get started on learning his position.

Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
In previous cases, if you have a good excuse, Goodell weigh the options and lowered the suspension if he thinks it is justified.
Now Pryor just has to plead his case and wait for Goodell's final verdict.
If used properly in his 1st year, Pryor can be a very effective Wild Cat QB with D. McFadden, M. Bush and Taiwan Jones in the backfield.

Unless college football is an official minor league of the NFL, what does anything occurring in the ranks of college football have to do with the NFL, making one's employment in the NFL contingent on circumstances in college ball? Why doesn't the NFL start its own minor league system as every other professional sport has? This might go a long way toward cleaning up college football.

Pryor's doing this to appease the veterans around the league. It doesn't appear to be a timely appeal, so it will be rejected on that basis ... but he can point to his appeal filing and tell the vets "See, I tried!!"

The truth is almost certainly that Pryor, Rosenhaus and Goodell made a deal since he was not eligible for the supplemental draft given the rules that were in place.

To my understanding, the only players whom are supposed to be eligible for the supplemental draft are as follows:

(1) Those who graduate early at the end of the spring and thus satisfy the "3 years from high school graduation or graduate from college" rule (e.g., Bernie Kosar);

(2) Those whom are ruled academically ineligible to return to school and are at least 3 years out of high school; or

(3) Those whom are kicked out of school for disciplinary reasons after the April draft entry deadline (e.g. too many knuckleads to mention by name).

Terrelle Pryor does not fit any of those categories. He was suspended for 5 games at Ohio State and was free to join the team in Game 6 and the NCAA suspension was handed down too late for Pryor to apply for early entrance into the April draft.

IMO Goodell bent the rules to allow Pryor to enter the supplemental draft in exchange for a handshake deal that Pryor would accept a similar length suspension as the NCAA imposed. If Pryor wasn't willing to accept that arrangement, then Goodell would have governed the situation by the book and ruled that Pryor would have to wait for the 2012 draft.

While I agree with you lunarpie, Pryor is not ready to play in the NFL, now. If he get's the suspension lifted, he can start practicing now. That would surely speed his development. If he's going to be the third QB on the roster, he should have someb experience running the offense and at least be the scout QB in practice. Winning an appeal would be a good thing for Pryor and The Raiders.

What's the most he could do at this point? Line up in 2-3 gadget plays per game?

It will take him 5 weeks just to get to a point where he is ready for the field.

Just take your medicine and let it go already.

Pryor has no respect for any sort of rules or authority and never has. He doesn't get it. The NFL should not have let him enter the supplemental draft which he achieved by deliberately breaking the college rules.

Same for Tressel!

If Pete Carroll isn't being suspended for 5 games now that he works for the Colts why should Pryor have to serve a 5 game suspension? It's going to be interesting to see how the Commish handles this situation and even more interesting to see how he answers the question of being fair and impartial with his decisions throughout the league if he doesn't suspend Carroll. Good move by Pryor AND the players association if they had anything to do with this appeal.

lunarpie says: Sep 4, 2011 11:15 AM
Doesn’t matter, he is no where near able to play in the NFL. He needs to look at Aaron Rodgers and take the same approach. He’s too young, immature and inexperienced and should take it easy and learn the system. Whereas if he enters the league too soon, he could destroy his whole career. Take it easy, T.P. baby steps….

--You need to point your argument to the man in charge of Raider nation not Pryor, or Hue Jackson for that matter....
