Buddy Ryan will watch sons, then undergo surgery for cancer

Ryans

Buddy Ryan is scheduled to have surgery on cancer that has spread from his glands and spread to his neck.

But first he has a football game to watch.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said that his father, the former head coach of the Eagles, delayed the surgery until after Sunday’s game between the Cowboys and Jets.

“He knows this is a big thing for him and a big thing for the Ryans,” Rob Ryan said via ESPNDallas.com. “He’s about the only guy who’s beat cancer about every time. He’s been through it about four or five times so I’m sure the prognosis is great for him because he always wins.”

Both Ryan sons can’t win Sunday night, but Buddy Ryan has to appreciate that his boys have come so far in the NFL while essentially mimicking their father’s brash style.
