Rex Ryan offers non-response after Rob’s foot-fetish remarks

Last year, when the bizarre stories of Jets coach Rex Ryan and his wife being involved in foot-fetish videos became public, Ryan handled the story by mostly ignoring it. That was smart: As Congressman Anthony Weiner would learn the hard way several months later, when you’ve posted embarrassing things about yourself online, you only make it worse if you try to deny it.

The strategy of ignoring it, however, became harder today when Ryan’s twin brother, Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, talked about the matter.

But for his part, Rex Ryan is still not going to get into it, no matter what his brother says. Rex was asked at his press conference today to respond to his brother’s comments, and he wouldn’t.

“I’ll say this, if it’s a personal matter then you know what my response is going to be, ‘It’s a personal matter,'” Rex Ryan said, as transcribed by the team’s PR staff. “It was a personal matter then, it will be a personal matter now, tomorrow and years later.”

With the Jets hosting the Cowboys on Sunday, Rex Ryan said he will be talking to Rob — but more about getting tickets for the whole family than anything else.

“We will definitely speak this week,” Rex Ryan said. “I spoke with him, he wanted to upgrade his tickets and all that stuff so I talked to him about that. I think they are coming here for a vacation, that’s what it sounded like to me. We’ll get after each other, no question.”

And part of the brothers getting after each other may involve Rex asking Rob to kindly refrain from opening his mouth about personal matters.

  1. If it was truly “personal,” Rex and his wife wouldn’t have posted creepy videos online. It’s already out there, man up to it and squash it.

On a side note, that is still the creepiest video I’ve ever seen.

  2. Wow, look at that. Real people, that actually let things other than “coach speak” come out of their mouths from time to time.

    Give ’em hell, Ryan bros.

  3. He should say to Rob “Hey….you know nobody likes to think about fat old guys having sex. So have some respect for everyone in America and stop bringing it up.”

  4. “On a side note, that is still the creepiest video I’ve ever seen.”

Either you really hate the Jets, are exaggerating, or have lived an incredibly sheltered life.

  5. It appears that everyone forgot this wasn’t just about a foot fetish; Ryan had posted a pesonal ad looking for someone to gangbang his wife, dominating and”fisting” her.

    Nice guy,to be sure.

  6. shouldn’t these idiots be more concerned about their father’s cancer instead of humiliating the family even more

  7. 1.How on earth could a story about a football coaches’ foot fetish linger like this one has(or exist altogether…for that matter)?

2.Who in their right mind decided that this kind of stuff is newsworthy?

3.What caliber of news to you intend to report about?

4.What the hells goin’ on around here?

  8. Gotta luv Jabba the Jet don’t you

He shoots his mouth off on just about any topic. The Jabba has an opinion or answer for everything.

So when he says “it’s personal” then it means “its true and I am embarrassed and don’t WANT to tell you it’s true”.

  9. Does anyone else think Rob simply spoke about it to make it an issue for Rex this week? Just add another distraction.

  10. In football news that might be of interest to a few people anyway, Donald Driver needs 42 receiving yards to break James Lofton’s all time Green Bay Packers reception record of 9,656 yards. Anybody got anything else?

  11. What’s “creepier”?…. A man making a video with his wife or a bunch of people watching the whole video and then calling the person in it and his wife creepy.

People need to stop focusing on what a man does with his wife and more on what really matters when it comes to football.

It’s pretty awesome that you have two excellent football coaches on two historic teams in prominent positions. Who both happen to be twin brothers and who both happen to have a legendary father for a coach. It’s an awesome story. Say a prayer for Buddy Ryan who is trying yet again to beat cancer.

Rex Ryan is a very good football coach and he’s a great guy. I judge a man by what his friends and family say about him. The people he works with and for. There is no doubt that he is a polarizing personality. If he is on your side, You love him. If he is not, You hate him. I do feel however that he gets too much heat for a guy who really doesn’t deserve it.

Rex is great for the game. There is nothing wrong with how open or honest he is. What you see is what you get.

    Look in the mirror.

Two men have a father who is trying to beat cancer again and you think that they are not thinking about his well being. That’s idiotic.

How did the Ryans humilate the family? Rex refuses to talk about his personal affairs with his wife and Rob answered questions from the media who asked about his brother’s personal affairs with his wife.

In this case, The media are idiots. Rob’s fault is trying to be honest and trying not to be combative with the media on a subject that I am sure he doesn’t want to discuss.

What’s idiotic and humiliating is when people judge others without knowing anything.

Coached wide receivers at San Diego and Oakland, got beat out by none other than Lane Kiffin for HC job. Might have sucked as Raider coach, but Kiffin left no doubt.

  14. Seriously though, feet are kinda gross or at the very least not attractive, i don’t get it. I guess I’m the weird one for focusing on the tna huh

  15. Rob is just onder family orders to act like the heel in this whole thing. And as a good brother, he’s toeing the line…

Why should I look in the mirror to realize that these two idiots are nothing more than overrated loud mouths. What have they done in the league besides weekly rambles about how great they are or having the REAL football fans being disgusted with their fetishes. It’s ok to have character but these clowns have done NOTHING in their careers. Can’t wait til they get canned and go back to their trailer parks where they belong. Yes, I JUDGE them for what they represent through the media, I do not need to know them to make judgement of idiots when I hear the crap that comes out of their mouths.

  17. Rex said, “It’s a personal matter. And if anybody would like to ‘meet’ my wife and her feet you can check out our page on alt.com. I’m the one listed under ‘bi-curious’, okay?”

It would be funny if it wasn’t true. Average coach but above average cuckold. Ugghhh.

  18. Isn’t THERE game on NBC?????

I’m a little surprised they would go that far….but, we have a game to hype.

At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with a little friendly (and perhaps, disturbing) trash talk is there????

  19. Family Reunion at the Ryans: Hilarious hijinx as Rob and Rex Dutch Oven each other, Jagermeister flows free and Mrs. Rex takes on whoever shows up. I thought this was supposed to be about pro football, goddamnit. I had to put up with a summer of bs “negotiations” and keep reading about at least six teams who will definitely be moving to a town that couldn’t support a team three times and a dozen teams who are angling for Anointed Andrew Luck. And foot fetish jokes ad nauseum. Please, please, please: Can we have some real football info?

  20. Orange that was a good post. Although the topic is kinda crazy, it’s cool to see coaches act like human beings and not robots. I miss the old days. Everything goes by the book these days

  21. Even before this little bit of titillation, reporters were fascinated by the twins. But that still doesn’t quite explain why Rob is giving press conferences and the game is being billed as a Clash of the Titanic Ryans. Does anyone other than Jason Garrett remember Rob is just a coordinator?

  22. ninjapleazee says: “shouldn’t these idiots be more concerned about their father’s cancer instead of humiliating the family even more”

Exactly. When your dad has cancer, every answer to every question should be about him or it means you’re not concerned about him.

Reporter: “Do you think you’ll win this week?”
Ryan: “How should I know? My dad has cancer.”

Waitress: “May I take your order?”
Rob: “No. My dad has cancer.”

  23. The private events that I filmed and then posted online to share with the public is a personal matter.

The online swinging dating sites in which my wife had a public profile to meet other people is also a personal matter.

This guy talks a big game but once he’s faced with adversity he gets real quiet.

  24. the fact that most of the foot ‘jokes’ are getting thumbs down is restoring my faith in the human race. thank you all very much

He hasn’t denied either, it’s his personal life. How about you get over it?

To answer your other stupid comment; this is the creepiest video you ever seen? What are you 10?

Mike, Rex and his wife did not have anything in the profile or the video outright connecting them to it. The Jets were never mentioned, Rex’s name was never mentioned. Yet, the segment of the media catering to gossip mongers has to keep bringing it up. Of course Rex is going to not comment.
What would you say if someone asked you how many times you think your wife/girlfriend faked it?? It’s none of their business?? Right. It’s no one’s business. Get a life and stop worrying about what another couple do together.

  27. Why does everyone care what another married couple does together? Seriously, are your vanilla lives really that boring?

Can we drop this please and maybe talk about football?

  28. This has to be the most amusing non-football NFL story since the Ontarrio Smith’s misuse of the Original Whizzinator.

  29. Rob didn’t give a press conference a reporter asked him a question in the locker room! Reading is fundamental, people!

  30. God, I’m SO glad neither of these clowns is associated with my team (anymore.) As a Browns fan, I got so sick and tired of hearing Rob run his fat yap about how his D was gonna handle the other team… only to watch his D fold faster than Superman on laundry day in nearly every game. And it would always be bad D calls on his part- not the players being worn out. Rob Ryan is the king of “We have a one TD lead at the beginning of the 4th qtr.- let’s just play zone from here on out and hope they don’t come back on us.”

Now Cowboys fans are starting to learn about this chump. All hot air- just like his brother. The only difference between the two is that Rex has had (arguably) slightly better talent to work with, and therefore they’ve helped back up his yammering a few times. Rob hasn’t even been that lucky.

Like father, like sons: Loudmouths losing respect on a daily basis.
