I don’t see that at all. If anything, the NFL has done the opposite. They are so concerned with protecting their minor league that they will enforce non-penalties (Tressel didn’t get a suspension, he got a delayed employment) for nebulous reasons… leaving fans to draw the obvious connection: the NFL is going beyond enforcing the NCAA punishments, they are taking proactive steps to protect the NCAA.

If they didn’t want the connection to be drawn, they could have suspended Pryor for 2 games, or 3. There would have been less of a bright, clear line connecting the Commissioner’s office with the NCAA.

As much as I hate the idea of players gaming the system in the NCAA, I think this is a terrible precedent.

The players are saying nothing because Pryor could have blown up the draft process.

Also, he left school on his OWN terms, which is exactly NOT the point of the supplemental draft. The supplemental draft is for kids who flunk out or get suspended for a year, something they have no control over. The key term in the definition of the supplemental draft is “unforeseen circumstances.”

The players could argue if he’s allowed in, under false pretenses, then why even have a draft? He didn’t declare for the April draft (which isn’t a coincidence) and I bet De Smith wasn’t happy about that.

Also, let’s not diminish Drew Rosenhaus’s role in this. He steered Pryor to the supplemental draft knowing he’d be the best player in it and having a better chance to find a sucker (Oakland) to pay him WAY more than he’s worth. He’s nowhere near a 3rd round pick in the April draft.

Also, Tressel didn’t resign to go the NFL (Pryor did). He’d be a terrible NFL coach. He could’ve just resigned at any time if he wanted to (2 or 3 years ago) and taken a gig.

I just don’t see what Tressel did to get this. If anything, the Colts should be reprimanded for not running this hire past the league.

Well, the announcement of Jim Tressel’s “non-suspension” clears up one thing doesn’t it?

The NFL is now the NCAA’s enforcement arm.

Heck, why wait for the LSU, Miami and Ohio State players to graduate and attempt entry into the NFL? Just announce their suspensions now and be done with it.

The NFLPA is strangely silent about all this. I can’t help but wonder how long that is going to last.

The players association should man-up and stage a sit down strike for 5 minutes at the start of every season opening game to protest. Whats a little delay of game penalty anyway to help support your union?

After reading this crap, I never thought that I’d think it let alone say it, but there has got to be a better sport to follow than the horrible theater that has become the NFL. It’s awful.

You can pretend Vick got a suspension but it doesn’t change the fact that he didn’t. Tressel was punished by getting fired and losing 4 million dollar job but that’s not good enough?

Goodell set the precident don’t get upset when it applies to coaches too.

He met with to confirm whether or not he was ineligible or eligible for the 2011 college football season. If he was deemed ineligible, then there would be no reason to suspend him because he would be in compliance with the NFL supplemental rules.

Vick served a suspension on top of missing two years. Get a clue.

No Goodell wasn’t lying because circumventing or undermining a rule is not the same as breaking a rule. The poster I was addressing before was ranting about Pryor breaking the eligibility rule which he did not.

This is the same league that fought tooth and nail to protect its eligibility rule when Maurice Clarrett wanted to join the league after his freshman year in college. This is the same league that fought the two Williamses in court over the Starcaps PED case for 2 years…..when it comes to its rules the NFL doesn’t roll over for anyone….yet they did for Pryor. Really? Pryor didn’t break any eligibility rules and NFL new it. That’s why the commisioner stated Pryor was suspended for “decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL Draft”…. Underminding a rule and breaking a rule are two different things.
