There were some eyebrows raised when the Dolphins claimed Patriots tight end Will Yeatman over the weekend.

An undrafted rookie free agent presumably wouldn’t know a lot at this point about the Patriots Week One gameplan, but these are the sort of conspiracies fans love.

Adding fuel to the fire: The Patriots responded by adding linebacker A.J. Edds off waivers from Miami on Tuesday, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe. The Dolphins let go of Edds because they had to pick up another veteran tight end, presumably because Yeatman isn’t ready to help the team.

It may all just be a coincidence. Edds played at Iowa where Bill Belichick’s buddy Kirk Ferentz coaches. But coincidences are no fun compared to conspiracy theories.

UPDATE: The Patriots confirmed the move and the addition of Dan Gronkowski. They cut Gerard Warren to make room.
