@pigskinswag: That’s exactly what I expected Manning to say. Still, the fact remains, that the Colts on the field will miss Manning like a kid misses Mom on the first day of school. The receivers will miss the perfectly tight spirals, and the D will miss long sustained drives, giving them plenty of time to rest between series.

As footballfan stated, Painter is on the roster because he is cheap and the Polians have some twisted love affair with the Big Ten. Not to mention that he is supposedly one of Manning’s good friends.

As to why he isn’t starting, you just need to watch him play. You would think that being in the system for years would help, but the guy can’t even hit a simple swing pattern to the RB in the flat.

His career stats tell you all you need to know…8 for 28 and 2 picks. Painter doesn’t belong in the NFL.

A lot of Indy fans have been screaming about upgrading the back up QB for years. They have stupidly ignored it and now it’s biting them in the ass.

If Manning misses most of the season, the Colts will, from a draft perspective: 1) look to trade back into the later first round (40% chance) 2) take one of the top wide receivers (Blackmon or Alshon Jeffrey) in the first round (35% chance) 3) finish retooling their offensive line with a guy like Matt Kalil (15% chance) 4) take the best corner back or pass rushing defensive end (10% chance) 5) actually draft said top quarterback to develop for three years behind Manning (5% chance)

If Peyton is out for the season, the Colts certainly won’t go 11-5 (or anywhere close to that), thereby closing the debate of who is the better QB, Manning or Brady. This would prove, once and for all, that Brady is a very good SYSTEM QB, while Manning is one of the all-time greats.

The reason Painter is playing for Indy is he is cheap! With the massive amounts that they have paid a few players that is about all they could afford. They have a thing about having the highest paid player at that position….. I live in Indy and I have been telling people here for a while that if Manning went down they were in trouble because they never were willing to spend any cash on a quality back up. I personally think the only reason Painter was picked up is because he played at Purdue. Hopefully they will see the writing on the wall and draft a replacement and pay him to be the next Rodgers, or find another quality backup out there.
