Who are you, a player agent? What a bunch of garbage! Like the players aren’t interested in money?! What EXACTLY is the entire CBA about? Why do the players (or anyone else) have a union representing them? Is all that JUST about the owners being greedy? I think NOT!!

Garrard was about to be guaranteed $8M for the season, and has never exhibited the talent to earn that much for one year. Regardless of when it happened, he simply isn’t worth that much. If he was, another team would already have offered him a deal worth that much, and they simply have not.

If a player does what he’s supposed to do and plays to the level the team expects, they’ll pay him. If they don’t, the players get cut. It’s no different in the real world. Go to work and do nothing. Let’s see how long you’ll have a job.

And Hugh Douglas, of all people, shouldn’t take about loyalty or earning money. He wasn’t loyal to Jacksonville, and didn’t earn a dime of what he got paid.

Lastly, people want to pile on the coach for Garrard getting cut, but in the end those decisions are either made or endorsed by the GM. If the Jaguars front office wanted to keep Garrard, Del Rio would have been overridden if it was his decision. That tells me it WAS NOT the decisio of Del Rio to cut him at that particular time.

Holding out doesn’t get a player paid, it gets him fined and gets him a bad reputation such that few teams will be willing to give said player a long term deal every again.

I guess it’s easier to talk about hitting a guy standing on the sidelines when you can’t seem to hit anyone on the field.

The issue isn’t that Gerrard got cut but WHEN he got cut. If he played so bad in the pre-season to totally get removed from the team altogether why wasn’t it done on Saturday which was FINAL CUT DOWN DAY! To cut him when he was meant he was already practicing as the teams week 1 starter so you’re hurting your team just as much as the player himself. That’s Bush league. No one is buying the “it was a football, decision” BS either. They’re trying to save money and save face at the same time. If Gerrard can’t find a starter job somewhere else then no one can point out what a bone headed move it was as an on field decision.

At least Garrard got the ax instead of it landing on the punter this time.

I’m a Jags fan. While I don’t agree with HOW they cut Garrard, are you kidding? The GM and Head Coach decided to cut an extremely average QB that was going to cost them $8million in favor of an equally average QB for 1/10 the price. Either way, they’re transitioning to the rookie within the first 4-6 weeks of the season.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the owner. They all wanted Garrard to keep the job. After 9 years in the league, he’s had his worst preseason — bad read, looks unprepared, throwing picks to a HORRIBLE secondary, not ‘leading’ the offense. Certainly not worth $8million when you’re plan all along is to transition to Gabbert in a few weeks.
