Saints lose Marques Colston to broken collarbone

Saints wide receiver Marques Colston suffered a broken collarbone in Thursday night’s loss to the Packers.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that Colston will miss approximately four weeks with the injury. Four weeks is usually the best-case scenario for a broken collarbone; players frequently miss more time than that with collarbone injuries.

Colston caught six passes for 81 yards in the game.

This is Colston’s sixth NFL season. In four of his first five years he’s gone over 1,000 yards, and last year he was the team leader with 84 catches for 1,023 yards.

How do you come back from a broken collarbone in four weeks?

  2. cdsaints says: Sep 9, 2011 6:15 PM

    ugh. exactly what we need.

  3. favreforever says: Sep 9, 2011 6:15 PM

He will be the Marques of Ward Six.

Lance Moore’s value goes even higher now, should be back next week. Deeper sleeper Addrian Arrington has the talent and skill-set to assume his role, but Meachem will probably get the first look.

Bummer, but Drew does like spreading the rock around.

  6. ctiggs says: Sep 9, 2011 6:19 PM

noooooooooooooooooo my fantasy team, in all seriousness though, i hope he gets better, colston is a good story and class act

  7. wydok says: Sep 9, 2011 6:19 PM

Huh, didn’t seem him get injured in the game.

  8. isphet71 says: Sep 9, 2011 6:19 PM

Ask Charles Rogers how easy it is to come back from a collarbone as a WR.

Not that Colston is C Rog. I just hope he recovers better. Less weed might help knit those bones faster.

  11. thefiesty1 says: Sep 9, 2011 6:22 PM

That’s too bad. Only 4 weeks?? Didn’t Romo miss 8 games last year with the same injury?

Sucks for them. They don’t throw the ball 90 times to any one guy anyway, though.

May not be a compound fracture like Romo’s.

What happen? He get punched by Woodson??

  16. howiefeltersnatch says: Sep 9, 2011 6:26 PM

It sucks he’s out, but I’d say this affects fantasy owners more than anything. They’ve got enough talent to hold the fort till he gets back.

  17. jimmysee says: Sep 9, 2011 6:26 PM

    Just beat the Bears, OK?

  18. jrfrom508 says: Sep 9, 2011 6:27 PM

yeeesh. never want to see anyone get injured. but i’m a selfish fan, whos team happens to possess NO’s first round draft pick. it looks like you just lost your version of wes welker for 1.5 months and maybe more. sure would like to see BB get an early draft pick considering the modified rookie wage scale. road to XLVI and further what up what up

  22. trbowman says: Sep 9, 2011 6:43 PM

He should ask Charles Rogers for advice.

  23. chipwade says: Sep 9, 2011 6:43 PM

I wonder when it happened? Because he made that diving grab on the last drive. If he broke it before that, he has tigerblood.

  30. kayotiicdat says: Sep 9, 2011 7:08 PM

I hope it is really 4 weeks and not 8-10 weeks.. Good thing is that Colston has been out before and Saints still did work without him. Hope he gets back soon, he’s a class act and like someone else mentioned a great story.

The cowboys had nothing to play for basically the whole 2nd half of the season. Maybe he could’ve played if they were in the sweepstakes for a playoff spot.

  32. BlackAndGoldAllDay says: Sep 9, 2011 7:21 PM

Damn. Hell of a catch he made while breaking it, though.

  33. silverhornet says: Sep 9, 2011 7:32 PM

He hurt it on the last drive with that diving catch NBC didnt catch the injury but you could tell from his reaction and he was holding his arm.

  34. nolarhode says: Sep 9, 2011 7:32 PM

Local news reports that it is not broken.

  35. scudbot says: Sep 9, 2011 7:42 PM

  36. rboyett says: Sep 9, 2011 7:52 PM

I wish him the best for a fast recovery. Fortunately the team has good depth at WR. He’ll be missed but not so much that it’ll kill us..

    WHODAT!

  37. pprguruontwitter1 says: Sep 9, 2011 8:00 PM

Immediate boost in value to all of the saints WR’s/TE’s. May even be worth a Devery Henderson waiver wire add…

  38. rwjk says: Sep 9, 2011 8:12 PM

wow knew he would get injured at some point because he is every year since he’s been in the league but I dint think it would be this soon. Guess I should go pick up devery henderson now. Thanks marques aka china man aka the big injury

  39. dkeyser says: Sep 9, 2011 8:22 PM

He did it on that diving catch near the end of the game.. I heard the name Donnie Avery mentioned a few times on NFL Radio as a possible replacement..

  42. pbolyard says: Sep 9, 2011 9:18 PM

I broke my collarbone too and 4 weeks is crazy. 6 weeks if he’s lucky but it takes a good 10 weeks before it starts feeling right again.

  45. bossplayer213 says: Sep 9, 2011 10:34 PM

If this injury lingers, Terrell Owens will be ready in a few weeks. Just sayin.

  46. silkyjohnson937 says: Sep 10, 2011 4:52 AM

Just so everyone knows he was injured on the second to last play of the game on a diving catch

  47. ragingmouse says: Sep 10, 2011 8:31 AM

Looks the saints won’t be “marching in”…

    So sad

  48. Deb says: Sep 10, 2011 11:25 AM

I’d love to know why I’ve been repeatedly censored from saying I’m sorry the guy broke his collarbone while having a great game against the Packers. Bizarre.

  49. axespray says: Sep 10, 2011 3:15 PM

just watched the replay, it was on that 2 min. drive at the end of the game.

Dude caught a deep ball and started holding his shoulder area….

But get this, Dude played through it.
Broken Collarbone in a big game, in a pass first offense and the dude played through it…
