Chargers’ Kaeding may have torn ACL

Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding suffered a left knee injury in the season-opening win over the Vikings, and the team fears the injury is severe.

Multiple reporters, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, have said the Chargers believe Kaeding tore his ACL. Kaeding is scheduled for an MRI on Monday at which the Chargers expect their fears to be confirmed.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune offered a somewhat more optimistic report suggesting that the Chargers don’t think Kaeding is headed to injured reserve. But even Acee’s report says it would be a “miracle” for Kaeding to be able to return next week.

So the Chargers appear to be in the market for a new kicker. And their already bad special teams may be getting worse.

Besides the opening kickoff, their special teams weren’t too bad today, but losing Kaeding could hurt. Not having him available made todays win that much tougher.

Scifres is probably as good an option as any other free agent kicker out there. Nailing a 40-yarder with no preparation going into the week is no joke…can’t imagine him choking any harder than Kaeding does come playoff time either.

If he really did tear his ACL, this could be disastrous. Who is going to miss a huge kick in the playoffs if Kaeding can’t be there?

Seriously. Get Dave Rayner. I felt bad when the Lions cut him, he came up so big for us last year at the end of the season. Clutch kicker.

I have a feeling Rayner or the rookie they had in the preseason will be signed.

I’m glad I passed on him when it was time to pick a kicker.

The Chargers are lucky that McNabb sucks ballz. If the Vikings had a decent quarterback they would have won this game, especially during the time frame when the Chargers had no idea if they could kick a field goal or not.

could save a roster spot for another posistion and just go with that Punter.

serious, that dude looked accurate and had some power on that one 40 yd field goal.

Im still trying to figure out how a kicker tears his ACL?

Scifres is already the best punter in the league, while not let him try to be the best kicker?
