They say things happen in threes. I say that “they” say that when things happen coincidentally in threes, and that “they” ignore the other situation when things happen in ones, twos, fours, or sevens.
Anyway, there’s now a third long-term veteran deal signed on the doorstep of the first Sunday of the 2011 regular season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has been signed to a five-year, $37 million contract extension, with $19 million guaranteed.
Witten had two years remaining on his existing deal. He was due to earn base salaries of $3.39 million in 2011, ad $3.64 million in 2012.
He joins Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and Vikings running back Adrian Peterson as players who have cashed in significantly one day or less before their first game of the year.
