APThe Wade Phillips era in Houston is going pretty well.
The Texans absolutely manhandled the Colts in all phases to race to a 34-0 halftime lead. Colts fans had their worst fears concerning the post-Peyton era realized within minutes.
Kerry Collins has lost two fumbles, and only led the Colts to four first downs. Both Ben Tate and Derrick Ward have run the ball well with touchdowns.
The Texans have a special teams touchdown (Jacoby Jones‘ punt return) and Matt Schaub has completed 12-of-16 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
In short, this is a full-scale meltdown by Indianapolis. The Texans look ready to be the new AFC South favorites.
It’s because Peyton played offense, defense, and special teams. Duh
It’s going to be a long season in Indy.
Cue blanks stare from Caldwell……oh, wait that’s all the time……
I feel bad for the Colts. It seems when Peyton went down so did the team
lol….
So Manning is out, where are all the other Colt stars? This is what happens when you have a one man team.
Gonna be a long season without Manning!
this confirms it, manning was overrated.
Welcome to Indy, Andrew Luck
Can’t blame all of this on a lack of Manning. Defense getting pushed off line of scrimmage. Poor kickoff coverage. Poor kick return decisions. Poor punt coverage. The deer-in-the-headlight look of Collins on the sideline is devoid of ANY player or coach even bothering to help him figure this out. Right now: The worst team in the NFL. Period. No offense. No defense. No special teams. 0-16 is where this thing needs to conclude. Pretty good consolation prize in the draft.
I didn’t know Peyton Manning played defense and special teams for the Colts too?
Plus: Caldwell isn’t exactly trying to fire anybody up.
Maybe the Colts should have, you know, addressed the backup quarterback position at some point over the last decade?
Get used to it, Indy. With Manning going down like a Saigon fellatrix, you’ll be lucky to win one in the first half of the season.
Who needs Peyton?
they are all kicking back thinking it’s a lost cause without Peyton….
it’s the owners fault…. you gave all the money to one guy without a physical exam….
no other real stars and no money to get one… nice spot… whole team morale gone on one event.
The Colts have no-one to blame but themselves. Meaning the front office that is, you have to know Manning was going to miss significant time if not the whole year.
But no, Manning wears a big fat ‘S’ on his chest and he’ll miraculously recover, um nooooooo, he’s human like the rest of us.
Then in the final hours they sign a ‘retired’ QB who goes from probably sitting on a beach to running an offense he has no idea about.
Just tank the year (which is a likely possibility) and get Luck but knowing Peyton’s influence to appease him they’ll probably go a different direction, bad organisations do that sort of thing.
Apooster, Freeney and Mathis are worthless without Manning constantly getting the Colts the lead. Fact.
Has anybody checked to see if calls have been made to Hattiesburg or if Ed Werder is camping out in Favres front yard yet
Way to coach’em up there Caldwell.
yeah, Colts, you should pack up and go home.
Disappointing performance today. The meltdown reminds me of the Jaguars road game during the year of the Super Bowl win. The last time I can recall such a poor game.
.
seems early in the season to be resting your starters
.
Kerry Collins isn’t a horrible QB (he’s a BIG upgrade over Curtis Painter, anyway). Collins has only been with the Colts for 17 days…and he’s stepping into a complicated offense that was built around Manning. It takes awhile (longer than 17 days) to create chemistry & timing between a new QB and his teammates. The Colts have some talented weapons on offense (Reggie Wayne & Dallas Clark). Too bad the Colts have no running game to take some of the pressure off Collins. Given more time, I believe Collins will play much better (obviously not as good as Manning!). HOWEVER, the Colts defense & special teams MUST step up in a big way…the days of being able to depend completely on Manning to save the day are (for awhile-at least) over. Oh…and Jim Caldwell has got to start coaching his a## off!!! (Rather than standing on the sideline with his arms folded and a blank stare on his face).
@babyjebus, what the hell you talking about?!
Once Collins gets the hang of shaking his head at people and making faces it will all come together.
If I’m luck I pull an Elway, what makes you think Indy’s going to do anything different. Manning gets healthy, he’s going to hog all the snaps, leave luck on the bench, blah blah blah.
Oh how I wish Manning was playing in this game! I knew it would be all about him not playing and nothing about the Texans. Don’t forget the Texans played without the number one rusher in the NFL last year! The Texans are not chopped liver, they looked to have a very decent team this year.
If Manning had played it would have been the same outcome….
You’re out of your mind if you think the Colts would have lost 34-7 with (a healthy) Manning playing!! NO FRIGGIN’ way!! (And I’m a Texans fan) The Colts might have lost, but not in a blow out (Texans did beat Colts @ home last season). I’m sorry Manning isn’t playing…yes, I want my Texans to win the division-but not by default. I want them in the play-off’s…but it will mean a little less if we didn’t do it by beating the best team in the AFC South.
