More rough news for Rams: Bartell could miss season

The hits keep coming for the St. Louis Rams, unarguably the team that suffered the most injuries on Sunday.

Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo provided updates for the media Monday at his press conference which we watched online, so let’s roll through them one by one.

1. The worst news was on starting cornerback Ronald Bartell.  He had two small fractures in his neck and could miss the season.  Bartell will make $5.2 million this year; the team is rather thin at cornerback. Justin King will start.

2. Running back Steven Jackson has a strained quadriceps and is “likely out” for this week’s game on Monday night against the Giants.

3. The Rams won’t say yet whether wide receiver Danny Amendola will need surgery for his dislocated elbow.  It sounds at least possible that he could return this season, but he’ll certainly be out this week.

Okay, now the good news:

4. It sounds like Sam Bradford will be able to play this week.  He only has a “bruised” index finger. There’s no nerve damage.

5. Right tackle Jason Smith does not have a high ankle sprain, as originally reported.  It’s unclear if he’ll play his week.

Yeah, that’s the good news.

Oh, and cornerback Bradley Fletcher is day-to-day.  Defensive end C.J. Ah You has a wrist injury but he may play with a brace this week.

Are you ready for some football next Monday night?

4…. Ronny Lott would just cut his finger off and play.

  2. jessethegreat says: Sep 12, 2011 4:14 PM

4…2… Favre would just get lickered up before the game to numb the finger (circa 92-98)

The curse of Josh McDaniels strikes again. He is the anti-Midas!

bradford was terrible before he got hurt. erratic and when he was on target his receivers just kept dropping them. giants will try to pressure him just as eagles did.

    You’re fired Spags..

Rams battled injuries to a lot of key position players yesterday. But a “bruised finger” for Bradford.. really?

  7. sonvar says: Sep 12, 2011 4:25 PM

I’m still not sure how Bradford hurt his finger. I saw a replay of where they think it happened but his hand clearly never touches the player’s helmet and it definitely was not his index finger if he hit any finger.

Better make sure they have the ambulances ready when the Rams and Giants play. 2 bad luck franchises, health-wise, so far this year.

    hahahaha that pic is great…..

    reminds me Charlie Brown

The Rams receivers dropped more balls than I’ve ever seen in game – and I was only watching the Red Zone part of the game!

BTW, have I mentioned that the Red Zone is in between the wheel and sliced bread as the greatest invention of all time?

St Louis: Youve been rolled by the Dream Team.
    Falcons: Youre next.

Bradford wasn’t terrible…the receivers were. The pass that Kendricks dropped in the 3rd qtr he would have scored and tied the game. The news on Bartell is real bad since he is their best player at a very thin position. There are no good options in FA to replace him and the Rams are up against the cap.

Well at least the Rams have an easy schedule to start the year, er wait a second…..scratch that.

It was like the body bag game part 2..and FYI the eagles are not very good the rams played terrible n the eagles rush defense in horrible.a good running game and a team that hit the tight end will neat the eagles ..hmm week 2 falcons

Rolled??? Lets just pretend Vick, McCoy, Nnmadi, a WR and RT got hurt in the same game. How good would your beloved “Dream team” be??

No worries. They’ll still beat the gutless Giants. This coming from a Giants’ fan.

  19. deenice810 says: Sep 12, 2011 5:30 PM

Bradford looked pretty shaky yesterday. Still not sure if he’s the real or not, I guess it would help if he had someone to catch the ball.

  20. ivegotbigblogs says: Sep 12, 2011 5:31 PM

Bradford has issued a formal apology for hitting his receivers directly in the hands. In his remarks, he vowed on sticking the football in his receiver’s facemask as to limit underwhelming players from costing the Rams games.

Giants vs. the Rams. The IR bowl. So, the whole nation will get to see a bunch of second and third string players you usually never see after the fourth preseason game. Pretty safe to say this won’t be a classic for the ages. Last team able to dress 11 players wins?

  22. laeaglefan says: Sep 12, 2011 5:57 PM

This has to be the first Eagles game since the infamous “Body Bag” game against the Redskins 20 or so years ago that the Eagles’ opponent suffered more injuries than the Eagles did.

  23. eaglebranded says: Sep 12, 2011 5:59 PM

hmm week two the falcons man shut up stop hating them players won’t hurt at the beginning of the game they didn’t make it through the game and your response is the falcons who we beat last year with kolb. As a Seahawks fan I spend most of the season watching the rams rooting for the other team.

Still sucks to see so many of their best players get banged up. Hopefully they’re back and ready for action when St. Louis plays Seattle. Looking forward to the early 2000′s when these teams had some pretty great games against eachother.

The NFCW is pretty bad but it makes it even worse when so many of the teams in the division seem to have to try to play with a majority of backups lately.

The Rams young players and high draft picks from the past three years really need to step up. Think they’ll start Quinn this week?

It’s a shame, too, because the Rams would have dominated the already-limping Giants next week at full strength.

As it is now, it’s going to look like two M.A.S.H. units going at it.

I’ll be a Rams fan next week, anyway!
